    I adore this clip and have seen it countless times. I wish Measha performed these intensely romantic 19th century works more often. Her voice is heavenly as is her French.

    Stunning! Other-worldly singing and what a gorgeous instrument! Massenet was an absolute godly composer.

    Aside from the gorgeous instrument that she wields like a champ, I love the way she actually savors the language. Young singers...pay attention and learn.

    Cute story - Measha met her now-husband when he was an exchange student in her high school and when they married they took each other's names to make Brueggergosman

    I love her so very much.... she, to me represents a new breed of singer. One that has to so well versed in everything in order to keep the music relevant. That was truly a commanding performance. She is sooo very giving... I have the strong feeling that she left everything on the stage. whether it was technically sound or not, who cares it is already in the air! They criticized all the greats for some reason or other. Why should this lovely woman be an exception. leave it on the stage. i say!!

    Most people wont agree with you, but I'm with you. When someone has a great technique the jaw and tongue should not be shaking. I'm sorry, most people don't want to hear the truth because if makes them feel that you're taking away from their favorite artist. I'm not taking away that she has a great voice, I love her voice myself, but it won't last if she doesn't change her teacher. Technique should be seamless and natural, not full of tensions.

    • @johnrondeau8500
      @johnrondeau8500 5 лет назад

      I don't love her voice some of her top notes were not pleasant but she had cardiac surgery. Singers work their asses off to achieve this level. Tongue tension is often a result of jaw tension. I've seen other singers with this characteristic but over the long term I think it will cost her. There are moments of good singing but she's not memorable. Gorgeous woman lovely dress and jewelry. She's a happily married Mom.

    • @alexanderzaphir721
      @alexanderzaphir721 2 года назад

      Yes ,indeed the sound seems correct ,but it's not. The way to the top notes ,is blocked by this tension.
      Although ,she has the musicality for that.
      But in my opinion ,singing is above all technique.
      You think it's easy today to find a good teacher?

    Cet air chanté admirablement est un extrait de l'oratorio de Jules Massenet : LA VIERGE
    Il s'agit de la "Dormition de la Vierge", sa montée vers le Paradis : "Rêve infini, divine extase..."

    Some say it's beautiful, some (including me) call it the most hideous Ice-hockey mask to every inhabit Copenhagen, but taste is undiscussable - and the inside of the new Opera House is wonderful - and the acoustics is incredible!

    The jaw should at all times just hang, but the tongue MUST be free to move, that is the purpose of just letting it lie there. It must be relaxed and flexible in order to make the vowels. Her tongue is quite relaxed. Everybody's tongue move in the mouth when they are singing, otherwise it would be tense and tight. I really did not see any major problem with the jaw. I would have to see her close up and study her body build before I made any major comment. First hand: BRAVA!

  • @SingerForLife3000
    @SingerForLife3000 13 лет назад +1

    @philipc67 I like her, but I think Measha scares people a little. As an emerging African American Opera Singer myself (with many years of experience also in Hollywood), I can attest to the fact that there is a very "fine line" between what is "likeable" vs. what is intimidating. I believe Measha's size, power & energy, while revered, are intimidating... similar to Jesseye Norman, who was also NEVER cast in Opera Productions. To whoever's reading this, no offense...just my humble opinion.

  • @josefinabuencamino-malabuy7014

    What is this piece?

  • @philipc67
    @philipc67 13 лет назад

    @SingerForLife3000
    Actually Jessye Norman did sing on stage, especially when younger, think of her Aida, Alceste, Ariadne et al. Measha I agree is intimidating, and way oversings/overacts this piece, which should be peaceful, flowing and ecstatic. Look at Montserrat Caballe for the proper and recommended rendition.

  • @SingerForLife3000
    @SingerForLife3000 13 лет назад

    @philipc67 ... I stand corrected re: Jesseye Norman. It seems she did perform MANY Operatic roles during her early career. However, I can only find records of her "concert performances" of "Aida." In all levels, however, Norman is a force to be reckoned with. Amazingly, she easily switch between Dramatic and Mezzo Soprano Leads... no mere feat! But, back to Meesha: I'm a fan of Messha, AND, now that I've heard it, I actually PREFER Caballe's verson of this particular piece. Divas RISE!

    oh really?

  • @philipc67
    @philipc67 13 лет назад

    A beautiful voice and evident stage presence, why does she not sing operatic roles on stage? Yes, this is powerfully sung BUT...way way too oversung and overacted, really too glamorous when it shouldn't be. "La Vierge" can be loosely called an oratorio after all. She adds several high notes and extends phrases, so some appear strained and a couple og high notes go flat. Very impressive, though. For an idea of how this SHOULD be sung and look, refer to Montserrat Caballe in 1999, simply superb.
