    I always look back at Zuko finding Iroh after EVERYTHING that had happened since he was captured and put in prison. Even when he let Zuko walk this specific path, knowing that Zuko was struggling internally with trying to accept what he THOUGHT he wanted. He never stopped loving him as a son/nephew. It was just an AMAZING full circle moment when he came back to him crying and asking for forgiveness; when in reality Iroh NEVER blamed him. Only that he was scared for him, but was relieved to see Zuko come to terms with all the teaching and growth he went through. Loved y’all reactions and can’t wait for you guys to upload the finale.
    P.S. It was HARD waiting for the show to come out week to week, but we were lucky Nickelodeon made it a full 2 part release 😂😅.

    I recently rewatched the show for the first time in 15 years, and found it even more impressive than when I was younger. What struck me now is how immaculate the filmmaking/direction is and the brilliant subtlety of the character development which I didn't put together in the past. A good example here is when Zuko finds Iroh asleep in his tent; he sits there and just waits for him to wake up and then apologises to him. This is a huge contrast to the impetuous Zuko of season 1 where he constantly tells Iroh to wake up to help him capture the avatar.

    * Iroh cuts Zuko off and pulls him in for a hug *
    Every dude ever: * wipes away manly tears *
    On a real though, when you said "He keeps forgetting Unc is different", the last time Zuko begged for forgiveness, he got his face burned, just for talking outta turn. In his mind, Iroh is stronger than his dad, and he basically betrayed him, so he was definitely afraid going in.

    • @mckfrr
      @mckfrr 2 месяца назад +13

      Children who are abused will have a hard time trusting another adult. That’s why Zuko was afraid of facing his Uncle, because he was thinking my dad burned my face just for speaking out of place, what’s my Uncle going to do to me? Zuko may not have had a happy beginning, but his ending, for this show, was remarkable!

      @jp3813 I feel like he does because of how he full on insists that Iroh take the mantle of Firelord away from Ozai during their planning with the White Lotus, as if he's fully confident Iroh can take him. It's why Iroh has to lay it out for Zuko that he's not even sure he could take him. I also do think he believes Iroh could take his dad because he's more loyal to Iroh over his dad at this point. If it was earlier seasons, then I think he would see them more as equals becausd of respect for his uncle but loyalty to his father.

    My favorite thing about this episode are Aang's conversations with the past Avatars. If you listen closely, none of them - with the potential exception of Yang Chen - are telling Aang definitively to kill The Firelord; but it purposefully written so that it's easily misinterpreted.
    Roku is just telling him to commit to his decisions - no half measures as you said. It's not that he has to kill him, but that he has to commit to whatever he decides.
    Kyoshi tells him that things won't resolve peacefully unless The Firelord faces justice. So whatever Aang decides has to achieve this otherwise peace will never be achieved; but again that doesn't necessarily mean to kill Ozai.
    Kuruk is telling him that he needs to be active in his decision making. He can't just wait to see what happens or hope the situation resolves itself. He needs to involve himself actively if he is to influence how this conflict plays out.
    And finally Yang Chen, who despite being an Air Nomad is the one who comes closest to telling Aang to kill. Essentially, she is saying that Aang's personal beliefs are not the most important factor here. The world is at stake, you can't refuse to act because it's against your beliefs. The world is at stake. She is essentially urging Aang to consider the bigger perspective beyond himself. Which implies that he needs to just get over himself and kill Ozai, but it's not explicitly telling him to do so.

    There's a reason Zuko's redemption arc set the precedent for the anti hero redemption arcs that came after. It was a struggle. It took its time. @@selenarodgers5667 I guess this is a little bit of spoilers, though Roku kinda spells it out here but isn't there some canon going around that each reincarnation is supposed to be like everything the last avatar regretted put into a person. Aang not being the most confrontational person (despite facing a tyrant that was about to scorch the world, he was still hesitating and had to be given a cheat code and physically placed in Ozai's way, no offense Aang. Still loves ya) or physically strong Avatar being reincarnated into someone shown to be so strong she can lift her entire group in the air and so confrontational she makes a good deal of the fan base near hate her on sight. Avatar Roku left the Fire Lord alive, which Aang had to clean up. Kyoshi was a savage while Roku tried to find that middle ground (and failed). No letting dictators die by falling off a cliff. First, big 'Thanks' for reacting to this series. Without question, one of the greatest series EVER created...no matter what genre or medium. Second, much respect for keeping it real and not being embarrassed and or afraid to let the feels hit at some of the best moments in the series. I'm a 46 yr old father of 4 who watched the series when it originally aired on Nickelodeon with my kiddos, and, thoroughly enjoyed every part of it. Get ready for a wild ride of an ending.

    Aang just lied through his teeth to Yang Chen. "I always solve my problems by being quick or clever, I only use violence for necessary self defense, and I've certainly never taken a life."
    When Appa was taken, he didn't hesitate to attack the sand benders and he killed the buzzard wasp that was running away and no longer a threat. Maybe if he cared about the millions of people about to be killed as much as he cared about Appa, he wouldn't be so troubled.

    If you're interested in a movie with a child protagonist training for war in a Fate Of The World kind of stakes, I would like to suggest Ender's Game with Harrison Ford, Alfre Woodard, and Ben Kingsley, an Indian-British actor who played Ghandi and I think he was the lead in a smaller but well rated movie called Sexy Beast.
    The young actors they chose were very good as well.

    while I understand where Aang is coming from, he's outrage at his friends over killing Ozai is a bit much. Zuko has definitely killed some fools, Sokka for sure has killed before, Toph would if the chance arose, and Suki too. The only one I'm pretty sure hasn't killed anyone on purpose is Katara and that "on purpose" is very heavy. I mean, Aang sure as shit has killed people or at least left them for dead. Yelling at his friends like they don't understand the weight of killing is just bad form given that they're all fighting in the same war. I get that he's a kid, kids are prone to outbursts, and the show itself is trying very hard to walk a specific tightrope about the morality of killing, but that scene has always rubbed me the wrong way and Aang never apologizes for it, for acting like his integrity, his soul, his morality was more important, more sacred than theirs.

    • @evrdraws1126
      @evrdraws1126 2 месяца назад +3

      It's also smn that annoyed me when I was younger watching the show. I think Aang's argument would've been stronger had he never killed, but ig the fact that he had killed (like while in the avatar state during the end of s1) bothered him immensely since.
      Him not wanting to kill ties with his culture and the monks that raised him. This show isn't just Avatar. It's avatar: the Last airbender. If he went back on their teachings as the sole representative of people who've been wiped out, it'd be like the Air Nomads died twice. Even with the advice he got from the past lives, they never dealt with what he had. He's a totally different avatar and came up w a solution that he feel would've honored his people.

      What an odd way to put it. I would rather say that the only reason the war ended was because Aang took Ozai prisoner rather than kill him. People in the Firenation would have felt they should revenge Ozai if he had died. By defeating him without killing him, Aang humiliated Ozai in the eyes of his people and they had to accept their defeat.

      Which shows an ineffective an Avatar he is. The Avatar is allowed to be above such things; he is supposed to do whatever needs to be done to bring about balance in the world. Even the previous AN Avatar said so.
