For the decorating slow idea i recently heard someone who was talking aboit fashion say "buy slow buy intentional" his idea was that if you rush and try to buy everything at once you will likely only use one of those items for a long time meanwhile if you buy slow and intentional every purchase will be a good one as your forced to think about design, cost, cohesivness with yoir other outfits, and how often you wouod really wear it. I bring this up because the idea behind both are really similar.

fashion and interior are actually very similar, i refer to interior decor as basically the fashion of the home #What’sYourSpaceWearing?

I also think that it should be mentioned that you are allowed to have a place holder for an item if you can get it for free or very low cost. This is most prominent for first time buyer or new home where you might not have any furniture at all. If you can get a free tv stand to prop up your tv so it’s not just on ground level, try to find a free one in market place or one for $20 while you search for a quality one that matches your vibe.

I am decorating slow and intentionally at the moment. It is painful at times! I have a small sample of carpet, worktop, tile, and flooring that I carry around in my bag when I go shopping. It has saved me a fortune and prevented many mistakes. If I am buying something for that room, I take out the relevant samples and see if it jars against the new items. I experience a lot of anxiety if I have too strong a colour or pattern. I want my home to be calm and contain currated pieces that remind me of special times such as travelling. I want a home that supports me emotionally and is not just a fashion statement.

I really liked the budget sheet from your website-it's a great tool. It allows me to save an image and track the budget for an item. I can plan for the purchase or find something similar later, which helps me resist impulse buying and avoid trendy items. By letting the item sit in my account for a while, I make more thoughtful decisions. Overall, your tips are excellent!

I agree with the advice to curate slowly, with a caveat. I am almost 60 years old, and I've been living in an "unfinished" house for my entire adult life. I finally have the means to remodel my home, and I don't want to live with it partially finished any longer. I'm adding an entirely new kitchen, expanding the living room (into where the kitchen used to be), and adding an entryway. If I take years to curate pieces for these new areas, that will just be more years of living in an unfinished home. I want to finally feel that my home is complete. I need furniture and decor, and I need it now (or at least as soon as the remodel is complete). So do you have any recommendations for people like me, who really want to have a beautiful home but don't have years to do it?

Go to estate sales! You will find unique pieces that won't be matchy match, but you can do it quickly if you go to as many as you can fit into your schedule.

I am experiencing this right now with my parents who are in their early 70s. They don’t have the patience or time to make this go on and on. They just want to get it done and live their life.
The approach I’m taking with them is it’s all about balance. We aren’t waiting around for perfection, but sometimes it’s good to pump the brakes for a minute and make sure you make good choices that I know they’ll like for many years. For you, I’d say the same thing don’t strive for perfection. Also, this is the day and age of Facebook marketplace, etc. so if you make a wrong choice, you aren’t stuck with it forever like you used to be. You will likely take a loss if you have to replace something that you bought because it wasn’t right, but in reality that will not happen very much and you can still recoup some of your cost.

By the time you’re older, you likely know enough to know what you like and what you don’t.

My rookie advise is to hire a good interior decorator. That's what I would do if I wanted to furnish my place faster.

And I’ve been having anxiety over furniture for our living room addition at a loss. But ur advice has given me bit of education. Mayb I’ll get one piece at a time and focus on the whole what when too. Wish I’d have found this channel when I was building the addition lol

Your ideas are out of the box, thanks Reynard! I'm currently purchasing the big ticket items, sofa, bed, dining set, for my new rental apartment (that I haven't found yet) because everything is on back order for Christmas. I will only buy the other items when I'm in the apartment and follow your great advice on wall colours samples.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge! Question: If you are starting from nothing, what is the order of choice? Flooring and then that would influence the cabinet color and then counter tops and then walls?

I live in a new built home with white walls. The kitchen is white and in cheap materials. The view is a modern boring building in terracotta. I dislike everything. I like architecture and old classical architecture. I don’t like modern style. Can you do a video on how to make it cozy and elegant in a 55 kvm one bedroom apartment?

I don't think it is a problem or mistake to buy all the furniture from one store as long as you don't get the same style in everything. One could buy a couch/sofa and a chair that are not the same exact style and that would be fine.
