First off, I to love the Rivnuts. How did I ever live without them, it makes things SO much easier. ... now the roof rack. I dig it, it looks good and I'm digging the flat style.. it's different and looks good. I'm going to give a roof rack a go, and that's the style/design that's bouncing about the brain at the moment.
If you have water in the shop (or a hose), you could probably build yourself an evaporative cooler ("swamp cooler") without too much trouble or cost. You might even get to do a little bit of plumbing again! 😀
@@ScottPlude that doesn't really apply here and is not true in general. If it's dry enough for a swamp cooler to work, there isn't enough humidity for the extra amount to be a sweat concern.
I have installed at least 10 different Decked systems. They truly do have the best instructions. And its super obvious how to make it go together. Their product is really nice.
I've seen this and it's tempting but the goofy electrical issues I've been having I don't want to have an issue with the warranty. This truck only has 6k miles on it so messing up the electrical warranty could make a huge impact on future ownership unfortunately...
Couldn’t agree more about the 12v impact. I get laughed at for using it on door hardware in houses but it’s strong without being too strong like 18v. Plus the size/weight is great hanging off the belt👌🏼 With the rivnuts saga, the hardware on this setup is all shear force because there’s hardware on 3 sides of the bed - plenty strong enough! Love your work mate
I personally really like the roof rack and the decked bed system. The roof rack is very streamlined and sleek looking. Modern rack for a modern truck. The deck storage system is very versatile and is gray for everyone. Great job and get some fans or a portable AC for your shop. Can’t wait to see the Tacoma rolling on 37’s!!!
@@DirtLifestyle On the H1, the factory used a sh*tload of rivnuts in the 6061 T6 aluminum body. After 20+ years, some of them started spinning due to galvanic corrosion between the steel rivnut and the aluminum body. JB Weld resolves that issue albeit in a ... slapdash manner.
I’m surprised you were out working in the heat. Crazy hot this last week, I couldn’t pry myself out of the house to do anything but go to work. Takes some dedication to keep making awesome content in crazy weather like we had. Thanks!!!
My aunt lives by Spokane and has been telling me how crazy hot it's been there. Thanks for the video, I have a Tundra I've been thinking about a bed system or rack for so nice to get some ideas.
A union plumber probably knows a few tin benders (hvac guys). You need to ask around about a demo'd ac unit to cool that shop of yours. I am a union sheetmetal worker. Local 270. I'm more on the heavy steel fab and custom stainless side, but our guys swap good units out all the time. May need a compressor or a fan, but way cheaper than a new unit. I put a 5 ton in my shop about 3 years ago. Greatest investment I've ever made to my shop.
One thing to know about the decked system is in my experience the front part of the drawers aren't 100% weather tight. Last winter we had snow creep in once or twice into the very front of the drawer. It wasn't a lot and I wouldn't discourage someone from buying it but its something to consider. We have had no other issues with it in the time we have had it on our work truck.
Man it's crazy to see how many companies are making roof racks like that now. I built a very similar extrusion/aluminum side panel rack for my tacoma 9 years ago...I should have started a company!
I've got a knock-off roof rack. It works, but not much else. I just wish roof racks would come wider. Like door edge to door edge instead of just the rain channel. I say that just from the aspect of roof line protection when trailing.
That roof rack if perfect, love the look and and little design in it. Those decked bed solutions are also perfect and very cool. Can’t wait to see this thing on 37s Love the work as always, keep up the great work 👍❤️
I bought one to install rock sliders on the wife's Grand Cherokee and I'm just waiting for another excuse to use it again. I have a ton of rivnuts with nothing to secure lol
With the inverter/outlet.. there’s a park switch at the inverter, and you can change that and give it the full 400 watts even while driving. I’ve done it on a few 4runners for some friends.
Nate, you can do a very simple mod to the inverter setup that allows you to unplug the harness at the inverter, plug in a premade jumper harness, plug the original connector into that and ground one wire. You now have 400W anytime it is turned on, regardless of vehicle moving or not. You can also get a paralleled output coming out that has the Toyota connector that allows for you to install a 4Runner 120V outlet inside the cab. I did this and it charges my Jackery 1000 while driving and runs my fridge at the same time. I have my outlet installed in the back of the center console, and the Jackery just sides on the pass side rear foot well. ARB fridge is mounted on a platform where the rear pass seat normally goes. Just did a 3 week trip through Montana and never had any issues with my Jackery/ARB combo. We are about to had out to more remote camping with less day to day travel, so I am going to be welding up an aluminum bracket to mount two 100W solar panels above the bed rack to keep the Jackery happy while parked at camp.
I love that style of rack, especially on a crew cab truck. Looks great. I see the decked system doesn't leave much room below the rail on the Tacoma either, that was one of the gripes for the setup in the Gladiator. Still plenty of room for hard cases to be stacked on there securely. Keep on doin what you're doin' brother. Looks great.

The only thing I don't like about those "Decked" drawer systems compared to like a custom system is that they aren't very space efficient. They make you lose a lot of space in between the drawers and at all the rounded edges. Do you notice the difference at all or is it negligible?
Looks alot like another company that rhymes with Prinsu 🤣. Im getting into building a trail rig against my will. My truck was essentially totaled when my single stage paint started peeling off and everything started rusting...now I guess its gonna become a really expensive toy. Luckily its a 2nd gen so it has zero electrical issues👍
I've used both. I don't have a preference I just use whatever is near by. BUT everytime your invert you loose energy so in theory it's more efficient to stay 12v all the way to the fridge. 👍
@@DirtLifestyle thanks Nate , i mainly use 12v on a battery system i made but i was just curious what your thoughts were. i also run a bilge fan to blow on the vent of the fridge to help it run cooler and more efficient especially here in AZ where its 110+ in the valley. I was concerned about this too. I still have satellite radio and didn't want to loose it but everything seems to be working just fine 👍
Heatwave has been brutal. 112 here in Sacramento, was 95 in Tahoe too 😢
looks good'need a small A/C unit in the shop
I want to see you upgrade the bed socket to 12v so I can do it to my tacoma
Lol I will get there eventually 👍
Noticed you didn’t reinstall the roof weather stripping. Any concerns about the channels holding water?
I haven't decided whether or not to reinstall the weather stripping. It's definitely not water tight so I feel like it's for show. And since it's now covered by the rack I could go either way.
Lol from weekend fun to dad business real quick with that bag.. I mean diaper bag 😂😂 great content as always brother. 🍻
Awesome, lookin' like an overlander!
guess im the odd ball on this one...dont like that style of rr...if a strap breaks you could lose it all...i prefer the old school that has side bars/rails...then things are less likely to fall off if and when a strap breaks...been there done that...i also dont like bed boxes...they dont work for me cause its a lot of wasted space...as for looks...its looks great..
👍 Nate was on fire this week 😳 No he was literally on fire 🔥 he was melting right in front of the camera 😂🤣
Lol I felt like it for sure!
Nate l the tail pad looks like does use the same oem screws i don’t think you lost them well good job
I like the racks but not the wind deflector. I do prefer to other style more.
I agree. I should have used the style with a light bar 👍
What are the base categories an overland rig has to check off, as in cpapbilities? I would like to see more on storage, organization and compartmentalization of say, kitchen, tools, clothes, etc. I am also a freckled 1/2 ginger and though i like it when its nice, I am always looking for shade, so a good awning build or install would be great!! Thanks....dirt church sunday!
This is a tough question to answer! I focus on drivetrain WAY more then most overlanders because I come from the rock crawling world. This might make a good topic for a video 👍
@@DirtLifestyle that would be awesome!! Even your take on a PNW approved awning that will take rain and sun. I am in Tacoma too, so you know the heatnwe are seeing these days.
Love the rack. Looks great.
The only thing I don't like about those "Decked" drawer systems compared to like a custom system is that they aren't very space efficient. They make you lose a lot of space in between the drawers and at all the rounded edges. Do you notice the difference at all or is it negligible?
You definitely make some sacrifice but for my use it's a worthwhile trade off 👍
Dude I gotta get me a rivnut setup. That’s awesome
That rack is where your spare should go
Looks alot like another company that rhymes with Prinsu 🤣. Im getting into building a trail rig against my will. My truck was essentially totaled when my single stage paint started peeling off and everything started rusting...now I guess its gonna become a really expensive toy. Luckily its a 2nd gen so it has zero electrical issues👍
Your Awesome bro. Thank you for sharing your knowledge
Do you use 110v ac or 12v dc to run your fridge and why? thank you
I've used both.
Keep up the awsome videos!!!
Did you consider the prinsu roof rack like Max has on his Taco?
Does the decked system provide enough utility for the sacrificed space?
Imo absolutely. The wheel wells in the Toyota bed extend all the way to the cab so you don't sacrifice much space 👍
Will 37s require new axels? Supercharger?
I bought upgraded shafts upfront. New gears and lockers front and rear
Do you think you will ever do a solid axle on your tacoma or are you keeping the IFS
What is going on with the Rover
It was the same issue at the taco lol. I thought I had everything but one of the gear install "kits" was missing very important stuff. I just got the new front axle assembled and painted today 👍 I'm going to try and bolt it into the rover tomorrow!
