Analog EQ's on the Mix Bus -- Chandler Limited Germanium Tone Controls

- These discontinued analog EQ's can be a bit heavy handed, and I've usually used them conservatively on kick, snare, bass or on drum bus. Today, I threw them on the master bus to see how they would affect an entire track. Some interesting results..they're like a baby Curve Bender.

Whats cool about your channel is how you choose to utilize a lot of really cool analog equipment that we typically wouldn’t see integrated into hip hop production. Lewis Parker is an og of analog hip hop production. Insane skills and talent, slept on GIANT.
I admire Lewis Parker's work a lot. Especially his ear for composition and his mastery of the SP. Living legend, for sure. Thanks for appreciating the craft.
Love when you talk about your rack gear and EQs
So do I!
Glad someone out there cares about this stuff! I love nerding out on gear. Cheers,
Always appreciate these sound experiments. Funny you mentioned what I was gonna comment. When you boosted the high end I could hear the magic that it provides. I don’t think it’s too aggressive at all.
Thanks for pointing this out. Very subtle differences, but impossible to unhear once you've focused on it.
Unorthodox beat ..and the mix is fire
Thanks! This type of groove has been my jam lately.
This is fyah, well polished bro feels Amazing 💪🏾🦾
Thanks! I like the way this track turned out.
Twisting knobs and having that physical connection with the sound is something that needs to be more of a thing. I know it's way easier to connect with an audience by grabbing a laptop and the latest version of FL or Ableton and a bunch of plugins, but showing how to really cultivate your own sound and incorporating the use of live physical gear will always be more interesting to me.
Beat is fire as always! Keep pushing the sound forward!
Appreciate you saying this. This has always been a very rewarding part of the process - the patience that comes with really molding sounds until they sit together right. Especially with unique pieces of gear that help you achieve that balance. At this point, it feels like a lifelong journey.
@@eddieleonard6925 Lifelong journey indeed. Attention to details and craftmanship need to make a comeback!
Sounds so good, got a Theo Parrish vibe about it
Thanks!
Boosting the EQ at 6200 sounded nice & clear, but still dirty. Please do more of these!
I had to rewatch the video to see what you're referencing, but you're right. That 6200 had a nice feel to it. I love twisting knobs and listening to sounds...I could do this all day.
@@eddieleonard6925 This video made me think of using the FX’s in the Force to emulate a vintage EQ. 24 hours ain't enough time for a day.
@@Harlem-Instrumental That's interesting. I'm sure you could do that. Slap it on a sample (or the overall track) and start twisting..
@eddieleonard6925 That's the plan, but it would help if I had an actual vintage EQ to use as a reference. The oldest device I have is the ASR-10. I've been meaning to do so sound comparison test, so I’ll get on that.
Wow! 10/10 track. EQ sounds really great too.
Much love and thanks for the feedback.
Dope! was my favorite so far! I didn't get your beats at first. But, you have a sound! Dope! I lke it!
Appreciate you listening and sharing that you didn't understand my vibe at first. It's so easy to sound like everyone else, so I'm trying (and sometimes failing) to push the machines and find a different kind of groove. but ultimately, there's nothing new under the sun. peace!
Hell of an investment! Beat sounds fire too ⚡️
Thanks fam. You're latest videos have inspired me getting back into focusing on tone and finding new textures. Cheers,
Amazing
Thanks. This was fun to mix.
Cool unit. Love your jount. Especially the percussion
Appreciate the listen. I also enjoyed how the rhythm section sits on this one.
Yeah, I love stopping by this channel for the rack gear and the possessive element so good
That’s fire 🔥
Thanks fam. Always fun dialing in a sound.
I like that unit. I know I'm going to walk into someones resale shop or a garage sale and find something like that. Units like that yu just grab it when you see it and play with it when you get it home (even if you don't know what it is) LOL. Thanks for twisting some knobs with us.
For sure! If find anything remotely close to this in a garage sale, grab it quick! :)
Nice one
Thanks for listening. Appreciate that.
Yeaaahh!
Fun stuff
baller shit right here 👊🏼
Thanks fam. Sometimes I go deep down the gear rabbit hole for the subtlest of differences in sound. Gift and a curse...ha.
1000% yes. Brought the track some life I didn't know it needed and that's what Buss processing is all about am I right? Some real nice eqs too look at as well are the Kush Audio Clariphonic, API 5500, and Maag 4. Not really affordable, but it's fun too rabbit hole this sorta thing haha.
Thanks for listening. I've heard lots about the Kush Audio, it's kind of an urban legend at this point for high end boosting and polish. Never seen one in person. Same for Maag. You prefer API 5500 over the 2500?
@@eddieleonard6925 i would definitely cop a 2500 first, i dont own either, just lucky enough to have had a neighbor with both. The 2500 is probably my favorite bus comp ever, i got the uad version on *almost* every mix i do, and the 5500 just does the fkn API punchy EQ thing man. With the work you do, you may find more use from the EQ, more applications whereas the 2500 just does one job--for me anyway.
@@Tallstreehouse Noted. I'll keep my eye out for one. Those analog 2500s never lose their value. I guess I understand why.
@@eddieleonard6925 yeah it's pretty comparable in application to an ssl gbus but its got a lot more flavor options like filters, fixed eq curves, knee size--even variable stereo to full dual mono--to fit the genre you're working on. The price tag is daunting but worth it if you're doing lots of mixing. I mostly do tracking so I can't really justify it over other recording oriented gear I don't have yet.
Nice!
Thanks fam. Means a lot coming from you! Cheers,
Do you use that Pultec MEQ clone primarily for EQ-ing your snares (assuming based on the label)?
Yes, it sweetens my snare. Very subtle device, but I really love it. I've always wanted a real MEQ, but the audioscape one is very affordable and well build.
YEP. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Appreciate the listen. I could do this all day.
