I have the tie-downs installed on my 2018 with the Electrical Connection fog lights. No modifications needed.
I have these Goldstrike brackets on my Goldwing. I don't ever plan to tow the bike, but this is one of those things that will come in very handy in the event that it needs to be towed. Most towing companies are accustomed to using the handlebars on every other bike, so its better to have a solid place to secure the bike so they don't accidentally snap the steering stem.
Thanks for including the torq specs!
Nice. I could have used these three weeks ago when I had to have my DCT towed. They too had to strap to the handle bars. Thanks for the video. I just ordered a set. 👍😁
Just installed them and with the Aux. Lights, it went rather quick and easy. You got this!
Tie downs are also necessary for safe and efficient hauling on a flat bed in the “very rare” event your Honda Gold Wing is Towed. As always good content Cruise. Thank you.
I also installed these. Previously I had used a soft tie around the front suspension column. That worked quite well for me. For the price of the Goldstikes, and ease of installation I added these. Makes for a much faster tiedown on the trailer and on the lift.
Works well with the Electrical Connection fog lights (like yours - you need to do something with them). Actually relatively easy as it’s one of the few add ons I’ve done. Excellent for tying down the bike while trailering. They should be standard on the bike! IMHO
The steel brackets are very strong. The hollow aluminum sub-frame they attach to is not. I have seen the sub-frame brake from using these brackets.
YES!! Thank you Cruiseman. I WILL be ordering & installing these JUST in case my scooter ever needs to be trailered.
I put them on about 6 months ago. Figured you never know if you have to be trailered. The right side may need some slight grinding of the plastic to get it to fit perfectly. I had to do that.
Thank you Cruiseman! I installed a set yesterday on my 2020. Your video was very helpful. I have stock foglights and had to loosen the top bolt as you did. No issues... it was an easy install. Thanks again. All the best to you.
These are great tie-downs. I installed these in the dealer parking lot after taking delivery of my Goldwing last year before trailering the bike home. Easy install, no modifications needed...My bike has Pathfinder LED driving lights.
Thanks for the video , Cruiseman. Good review and installation. Stay safe and ride safely. 👍
Thanks Chris !!! Added to my to-do list.
Just purchased Goldstrike tie down brackets now just have to watch the video a few more times to make sure I know what I’m doing
Just installed mine using your video
👍👍
I literally finished this install, came inside and found you had uploaded this video yesterday. With the Honda driving lights you have to move them out of the way to even remove the horn bolt, the bolt hits the light before it comes all the way out. I had to remove the outer bolt, I believe it was a 7mm with a 10mm nut on the inside. Then I just loosened the top bolt and swung the light up and out of the way.
Thks Cruiseman I think this is a pretty good preventive investment!
Hi Chris.. I've seen you remove the forward crash bar covers quite easily, with one hand.. couldn't you just do that when needed, and use the forward crash bars for tie down points? Even easier if you have forward highway pegs/boards installed, no?
I have the same question ?
For what it’s worth, I used both the GoldStrike tie downs in conjunction with the front tip over protection. Using this combination means you can spread the torquing down of the front end.
That's my question for peoole without add ons in the way . Why not use the factory tie down points ?
Cruiseman, I have the Electrical Connection visibility lights installed on my 2018 and the Goldstrike Tie down brackets, fit with out any modifications.
Installed them also Chris I too have Pathfinder Fog and Cowl lights. A bit tricky but as you instructed install went without a hitch. Love the Quality Goldstrike products. Also Cary a couple of nylon looped end straps if added protection or compatible tie down point is needed. Trust the bike implicitly but just in case. 😂
Good tip!
Glad it was helpful!
Hey Cruise man, I had the chance to install the Kuryukan Tie Down kit mounted on the steering column and I think it is much better and cleaner alternative. It took me 5 mins to install, no joke. It is very simple and well made.
I installed it also. I like it better because it doesn't load the front suspension when you tighten it down
Of course I have to have a different result. Right one went on, no problem. Left one however, the light cover would not go back on. The bracket stuck out too far and the lip of the cover had to be trimmed for it to go back on and fit correctly. I am sure this doesn't happen to anyone else.
Great video. I have the Rivco driving lights. Can you explain how to modify the bracket or light mounts to make the tie down brackets work? Thanks.
Hey Cruise man thank you for the video. One thing you left out was the need to trim the fog light covers to fit around the new bracket. They will not fit properly without trimming the inside edge with a razor knife.
Hmmm. I have heard others say this, but I did not have to trim mine.
@@cruisemansgarage could be! Maybe some years have a naturally wider opening on the light covers. That would explain it. Mine is a 2018 manual. I trimmed about an 8th off ... Not much.
I had to trim the plastic cowling on the right side slightly so it wouldn’t hit the bracket. Otherwise the cowling wouldn’t sit flush to allow its fasteners to fit properly. The left side fit without trimming. The instructions that came with the brackets said that some trimming may be required.
These brackets will also come in handy if you ever have to secure your bike while on a ferry.
The Honda service manual says remove engine covers and tie down to covered crash/ tip over bars
Two questions,
First , Is there enough room at eyelet so tie down strap clears engine cover?
Second, do you or any of your followers use a Track Side roll on wheel chock, or anything similar ? I had one ( different brand) with my 2009 Harley and it worked great.
Thanks for the great videos!
I wonder if these would be a good time down point for a security cable?
I didnt use the supplied bolt. I feel like the factory bolt is a much more substantial fastener.
I installed these on my 2019 but haven't used them yet. I am concerned about a tie down going to the bottom front of the trailer as I think the strap will rub on some of that plastic.
How do you guys tie down the backend of the 2018+ Goldwing? There does not seem to be any solid locations to run straps... I would appreciate any recommendations! Thank you in advance!
Thanks
Looks like a nice add on
What do they cost?
I missed that in the video if you told us.
Thanks
Around $50.00
Thanks
Will the same instruction apply for a 2008 Goldwing?
Hey Cruiseman, what brand wrench set do u use? Tnx
Why not use the ones that are built into the bike to begin with ?
Do they by chance make them for the 2012-2017 ??
Not needed on 2001-17 as the engine bars (my preference) or the handlebars can be used
Wouldn't you know, I have the Rivvco lights. Are you aware of another tie down product that will work with the Rivvco lights? Thank you.
These will work, but the Rivco brackets need modification. Next time I tear into Don's bike I will take a more thorough look at how to make it work.
@@cruisemansgarage Thanks, Chris.
Install mine just in case if I have to tie down the bike..........like on a ferry
You left out the part as per the instructions about the possibility of having to trim the cover to make sure it fits flush ,i didnt think months ago i would need to do this but after a while i realized the plastic trim cover would/could strip the protective paint off the tie down bracket and that could cause rust.
I had no problem with the fit of my covers. Also, if my assumption is correct about the brackets being powder coated, I doubt that plastic would every scrape off powder coat.
@@cruisemansgarage I powder coat and plastic rubbing will remove powder coating just like on any type of paint after time ,hence why im guessing goldstrike instrucks to trim if needed.btw when i first installed mine i thought it was ok but then i realized it was right on the part so i took a razor blade and just scraped off a bit to be on the safe side, i dobt want to take the part off and re powder coat it...or do i(a different color)🤔 anyway good vid.
Couldn't you just secure the bike for trailering per Honda's recommendation?
Yes, but you would need to remove the lower cowls on both sides of the engine.
@@cruisemansgarage I used the tie down straps around the steering head in the front and the rear crash bars for the rear. Traveled several hundred miles on nasty PA roads and worked well. If I ever go much longer I'll add an across the seat strap as well as insurance. I'll carry some tie down soft straps with me now in case I ever need a tow from a commerical company. Supposedly Honda approves the tie down strap around the steering head method now along with the front and rear crash bar method.
My goodness. It seems as though you have to tear Goldwings apart to work on them. No wonder mechanics curse and swear!
