I think my favourite part about that joke is hearing other versions of it in other comedies. Pretty much every "oh I just woke up from a 30 year coma" or "I've been living in the wilds for several years" character from the same era as IT Crowd would use some kind of a "Googled Google" joke
I can't believe I enjoy a show with a laugh track so much. It's a testament to how good Graham Linehan is (as well as the rest of the cast/writers) that it can still work in spite of that. Same deal with Monty Python's Flying Circus. Shows like this are rare.
DispleasedEskimo Whether or not It has a laugh track or it is live laughing, it doesn't need so if it is funny. I love the IT Crowd it is funny. What comedy series producers should learn is to stop using laugh tracks (like the series Scrubs which I also like) because the laugh track is not gonna change if I find something funny or not. The IT Crowd is funny though :D
I find it odd so many complain about the live audience. So many of Britain's most iconic comedies have laughing because they were filmed before live audiences. Black Books, The Young Ones, Are You Being Served, Absolutely Fabulous, Blackadder, Fawlty Towers, l'm Alan Partridge, Red Dwarf and almost every sketch show (Benny Hill, Monty Python's Flying Circus and Goodness Gracious Me, to name a few) all have conspicuous laughing in them, and all are legends and staples of British comedy. The only ones l can think of that l like which don't feature laughter are The Mighty Boosh (understandable given how effects-heavy that show is) and Jack Dee's Lead Balloon.
The laugh track honestly hasn't been seen much outside of the 1980s at the latest, yet people accuse every show with a live audience of using it. Makes me wish they'd never come up with the idea in the first place, to be honest.

I asked her to follow the cable to make sure it went to her desk phone, which then has a second cable going from the phone to the wall outlet. I told her that she needed to unplug the cable from her PC and plug that end into her laptop and then leave the other end in the phone. She didn't believe me. She insisted that she needed to plug her laptop into her desk PC because "The internet is on my PC, and I need to get online with the laptop."
