I've only just realised today that the opening to this scene was a tribute to Laurel and Hardy in Sons of the Desert.

I thought that part was slowing it down, glad they got rid of him for his "son" He was good, but I found his parts slowed everything down. I usually don't like new characters part way through but His "son" was much better than I gave him credit for, so was a nice replacement

One of the funniest scenes but not the only funny scene in this great series.
The writers must be fans of Laurel and Hardy, as they are replicating this scene from the L and H movie ' Sons of the desert.
The stress class scene is based on and a tribute to comedy icons Laurel & Hardy.
I also think Simon pegg did this same scene from SOTD ..... also in obvious tribute.

Just to explain the joke for non-IT people: he should have left the soldering iron turned OFF and not turned it ON again, which is what caused the fire, which he then ought to have reacted to more promptly.
