@@MedievalSolutions for sure some ankle mobility very useful. But the level of mobility of the Olympic lifter is far beyond what would be useful for stone lift I feel.

Really love how Mitch is really open minded to learn new things to improve his game and efficiency.
Olympic lifters are the most efficient persons to the overhead a barbell and no matter whatever people complain you will be able to lift more weight when you jerk due to technical supremacy.
If you look at the lighter weight strongman/woman you can observe how efficient people are at moving things especially how people jerk to put even logs overhead. The same thing will apply to heavier strongman for they aren't special snowflakes. The only thing they need to dedicate some time to improve their mobility.
And people whining about how jerk is cheating are the ones who is not ready to put in the time to learn it. An investment in proper mobility and movement efficiency pays its dividends in the longer run regardless of the sport.
Keep exploring and break the limits Mitch Hooper.

Mobility is THE biggest challenge to it. Approximately 30% of training, if you're not mobile enough, should bevon that aspect.

I always thought strongmen competitors were somewhat dumb for not learning how to jerk properly after seeing Koklyaev do it like 15 years ago and observing that it was allowed on the log and axle press. I mean they see weightlifters at half their bodyweight lift more overhead than they ever could and they can't figure out that it might be worth the effort to learn the technique? It's like a close to free 20-25% boost over a push press, come on... 🤦🏼‍♂ Props to you, Mitchell, for using your brain first and your muscles second, none of your competitors is likely to beat that combination. Also, considering how high you were catching that axle at the Arnold and the room for technical improvement that you still had, you'll be an unstoppable force on those overhead events in the future, as long as your clean can keep up!

Learning olympic lifts and training in that style consistently for a couple of years after only doing powerlifting was humbling but also had a great ROI for my strength and conditioning. I was forced to correct shortcomings in my mobility that I had a tendency to workaround when doing powerlifting training (e.g. front squatting properly vs arms-crossed, ATG high bar squatting vs shallow low bar squatting, etc.). But once I dealt with these shortcomings, I noticed a huge carryover in terms of strength and mind-muscle connection to anything non olympic lifts related including 2 of the 3 powerlifts (my benchpress did suffer).

Funny seeing people complain about split jerks. Sumo deadlifts are not more technical than conventional, they simply load your adductors and glutes more while decreasing the range of motion. Split jerks on the other hand have both technical and power requirements that counterbalance the simplicity of a push press. I didn't see anyone whine about how Mateusz' viper pressing on the log is easier in terms of raw pressing power because of the non-trivial technical requirements to pull that off.
Lastly, as a casual viewer I want to see strongmen lift as much weight above their head as humanly possible, not struggle with what is a warm-up for an elite heavyweight Olympic lifter. Strongman competitions already have strict pressing events, and if you're going to allow the use of legs, I want to see big numbers.

The difference I see with Mitch and Martins from everyone else, everyone else collab with anyone for views. Mitch and Martins do it from knowledge.

this vid was cool but wanted to take a sec to address your subscriber count... wanted to say congrat's on surpassing 150K, the main individual (one keltie o'conner) thought she'd never surpass 60K, now she's about to cross 600K.... point i'm bringing this up is, as idk what your goals for this channel are but never underestimate the outcomes, Keltie (sry mitch) has the best quality vid's on youtube and has 10x'd her expectations, you should collab with her since she is Canadian as well and a top figure in the fitness.... (maybe not a great example haha but eddie hall did a collab with bryce adams so, just saying)

Mooper is the world's smartest strongman.
He also happens to be in the top 2-3 in raw strength (deadlift).

Personally, I don’t have any aspirations to learn Olympic lifting. That said, I would love to meet Sonny. I don’t do well just being told to do something. I need to to know why for it to stick for me. Great stuff!

Good stuff....lose of range of motion kills performance and longevity and durability! As another avenue to explore is Ben at kneesovertoes! His programs all have range/progression.....and precentages of your body weight. Some movements are up to 100% of body weight....even up to 200% of body weight for some exercises for Football players. So for you could be up to 600lbs through a greater range of motion! AND for daily movement/sitting etc would be the GOATA info for sit, stand, walk. THESE two combined i believe will give you healthy and durable joints and range of motion....a MASSIVE foundation to build your max strength on!!!! NO STONES UNTURNED!?!?!?!?!

Jerks are sooo much easier then presses. I have hit 205lbs on a jerk, when I could only press about 145lbs.
