    I knew gotze was always lucky that world cup final jus the right place at the right time but I would differently prefer to score the winning goal inna world cup final that’s why he will always be legend in Germany

      I mean that’s usually how a lot of things happen right? That one lucky second of the defence turning off and you happen to convert, but instead of it being a regular game, it the World Cup final or any other final. In those moments when you try to recall how you got into that position it’s really hard to remember, your body usually when into autopilot and you did what you always do.

    world cup no question. prestige for the trophy that comes around once every 4 years is unmatched. i LOVE the champions league more as a competition, but the prestige just isn't the same worldwide.

    Nevertheless still a legend in his own right, just that perhaps choices and his health problems pile up unexpectedly. So was Marco Reus as too injury prone though talented.

      @@DrBootyShaker I think it's mostly the medical issues that are to blame. Who knows how long his chronic fatigue was undiagnosed. Goetze could have been one of the best players of all time, instead he's simply a very good player.

      @@maxanderson755 I agree 100%. The metabolism problem wasn't diagnosed early enough.
      Germany has a talent of Marios size again, Florian Wirtz. He already tore his ACL but came back even stronger. Lets hope he will have a great career, a career Götze could have had, too.

    He played at PSV for some time when his career was not going so well. You could just see that he was a fantastic footballer but that he had just lost focus. You would see glimpses of his skill on the pitch but never his full power.

      He was a top professional at PSV, being a role model to all young players in several aspects. What do you mean by he "lost focus". He had to adapt to overcome his physical shortcomings.

      i dont get this "lost focus" stuff. He has a rare metabolic illness, that's the only reason he lost his speed.

    He might be succeeded by Gonzalo Montiel who sealed the dream of almost every modern football fan which was seeing Messi win the World Cup and doubled down on that by sealing Sevilla's 7th Europa League. 2 winning pk strikes, the rest is history. All within 6 months. Literally he's a legend no matter what, he can hibernate the rest of his life.

    He stepped up for Germany when it really mattered, there’s no greater success as a footballer then to get your nation a World Cup it wouldn’t matter if he never played a match after or never scored or assisted ever again because he won a bloody World Cup

    He fell prey to the curse of unfortunate injuries. Something that kills many talented wunderkinds in football, and stopped the likes of Michael Owen or Van Basten from remaining on the scene for long.
    The reason someone like Messi is a rare legend is that aside from his personal traits and talent he never really got any long-term injuries and wasn't away from the field for more than a few weeks.

      @barrychopsticks I think people subconsciously hate Germany and their national team, so they don't go much deeper into research. Götze also isn't a media guy so it's not like he's talked about it a lot

    Him leaving BVB was the biggest mistake, it ended BVB club as well, then followed up by Lewandowski leaving and hummels, still BVB couldnt recover from those losses

    His career trajectory is more normal than not for top prospects. We don’t shift their timelines for minutes played at such high levels at 17.

    I find it interesting how gotze was 22 when he robbed Argentina of the World Cup and Mbappe was 23 when he tried robbing Argentina of the World Cup. What’s interesting is that they were the only ones on their teams to score against Argentina in the World Cup finals

    His move to Bayern from Borussia in 2013 really killed his career BUT he continued to be very good for Germany after that regardless.
    By the way, the stadium you showed at 1:11 is the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark which is in Berlin, it has nothing to do with Hombruch/Dortmund.
