    Sailing to Morocco with a new crew member and our first time departing the European mainland. Our longest crossing so far of about 400 Nautical Miles to Agadir in Morocco. Before departing Portugal we complete the last few jobs such as a new battery system, a new solar arch and wiring in additional solar panels.
    A couple from Australia and Norway who set sails from Norway on a Beneteau Oceanis 40 in late 2018 to explore the world by sailboat. (Yup, another sailing couple doing the standard route and documenting it on film.)

    Really enjoyed this episode, a quick question, how is your inner forestay attached at the mast, T ball? And is it at the top spreader or higher, thanks.

    • @SailingBeaver
      @SailingBeaver  4 года назад +2

      Hey Ian, glad you enjoyed it mate. The inner forestay is attached with a nose fitting forestay attachment the same as our main forestay, we purchased from Zspars. Its a out 30cm above the top spreaders. The running backs are directly opposite, and they are connected via a selden t-ball fittings. Hope that answers it :)

      @@SailingBeaver Had the same question. Between the solar panels and the small wind turbine you should have more than enough right?
      Really liked the calls you made when it came to gearing up the boat. Keep it coming!

    • @SailingBeaver

      Yes I believe its the right amount especially with the Hydrovane as that cuts consumption from the AP. On sunny days at anchor the batteries are in float stage by 10am. We just have to be carefull on cloudy days if we want to charge computers on the inverter but thats ok! Thanks for your kind words.

    Dumb question. In all of your videos I’ve watch and even in light air you are sailing with a reef in the mainsail vs. a full mainsail. I can think of a number of reason why you would, but why not if on the right angle with the wind with fair skies and trying to make some distance?

    I was just wondering how the solar panels worked out? You mentioned that Morocco would be a good test run but I didn't catch how efficient or not they were working for you.

    • @SailingBeaver
      @SailingBeaver  4 года назад +4

      So we have 440w of solar pannels and they hve been working great and being able to adjust the angle has helped out alot. We gave the batteries a good test run to Morrocco and very happy with the setup. 🤙🏼

    Welcome to Morocco guys. So are you facing any kind of issues getting in into countries due to Covid19.? Nice that you come to my city Agadir, I hope you enjoyed it here.

      Thankyou for the welcome! Yes covid has made things quite difficult but lucky for us this was before covid restrictions. Agadir is is nice place, we did enjoy ourselves. 🤙🏼

    I was just thinking how lovely it is just to hear the sound of the boat on the water without music being overlayed .........then ...oh, well it was nice while it lasted 😉

      Thanks for the feedback mate. I do agree with that actually. We have been trying to make the most of the natural audio especially in our Biscay crossing. With a cheap microphone the wind rumble can sometime make it difficult to use.

    How many kwp are the New panels, they Look quite small?

    • @SailingBeaver
      @SailingBeaver  4 года назад

      The pannels are 110w and 6.3amp. They are kinda small yeah. We initially wanted small for the side rails and ended up with another two for the arch as they are light. We can easily adjust the angle through the day which really helps out.

      @@SailingBeaver Don't forget the little Portuguese girl, eh eh eh! This race eats vikings for breakfast, they are so terrible that the English surrendered before the battle with them! And, they proposed to them the infamous agreement of "no aggression and eternal friendship" between Portugal and England! This agreement has lasted since 1373, and it will never end!
