Could you please cover your experience with winter tyres/chains/snow socks for your journeys to the alps? I'd have to get new wheels/tyres which if the cost is outweighed then its an option. Great content - keep up the good work :)
Sorry for the slow reply! Missed your comment. I’ve used all season tyres on my last cars. Falken AS220 and Vredestein Quatrac. Both are great tyres all year and are better than budget winter tyres in the Alps. Never used chains. With the eTron it’s been on its standard summer tyres (lease co won’t fund winter or all season) and I’ve got away with it. I carry socks as they are easy to fit, but they don’t last if it’s patchy snow and some tarmac patches. It’s hard to get chains that fit the low clearance on the eTron 55, but I have a set from the USA, so far unused. If your tyres are due to be changed swap to all season tyres with the mountain/snowflake symbol like the Vredestein Quatrac pro or Michelin crossclimate.
@@ski_tron2446 Thank you for the detailed reply. I have winters for my i3 but certainly would not be travelling that far in the BMW. Tempted by spare wheels with winters for the ICE second car until its replaced with a BEV.
I’m on standard summer tyres. The car does better than I expected in snow. I carry socks and chains. Socks are quick and easy to fit for short use. Chains would go on if they were likely to be on for longer. I’ve used all season tyres (Vredestein Quatrac) on my previous car - they are outstanding in severe weather.
Flippin heck, the 2nd half of the video was a bit shocking. I assume the wife drove back ok and that you are on the mend, I do hope so. I've just been plotting my route to Dortmund tomorrow, on the elli app. Do you think its worth having an Electroverse account as well?
Either Elli or Electroverse would suffice. Have the Tesla app too are there quite a lot of superchargers around. ruclips.net/video/SCka6tcOV4M/видео.htmlsi=mtVv-1J7YBKjWUGi
Thanks for the great video I assume you were travelling at the weekend? On my recent trip to the 3 valleys charging points was good and free on the trip down mid week but would have been a disaster coming back at the weekend I was in an ICE car but planning next in an EV don't think I could charnce it at weekend. Do you have recovery insurance?
Went out first Saturday of Feb half term (Friday night ferry). Usually a very busy travel day. I have European breakdown cover from RAC as well as the warranty cover. Glad I had travel insurance.

Hope you made it back ok and feeling better. Did you go with just standard tyres and snow socks and/or chains or did you upgrade to winter tyres?
