- Turn down your sound at 15 mins! I didn't want to render all over again so just bear with me.
This is how to install a Brook UFB into a Madcatz VS. This process is the same, minus taking the stick apart, in any PS3 TE which locks Start and Select when you hit the lock switch. This mod costs $200 including parts, labor and return shipping in the US. www.vickomods.com
This video is a lot longer than it needed to be, but I left it the way it is for those who want to see how to put the disassemble/assemble the stick, how to tidy up wiring, etc. You can skip around here and there until about 40 mins and the rest is just screwing it all back together.
You can get this board at www.paradisearcadeshop.com or www.arcadeshock.com
Sorry for the audio issues! This is my 2nd time recording and I'm running out of sticks haha. I chose to put subtitles where the audio muted rather than record ADR because it sounded weird. The humming you hear is from my fluorescent lights. The next one should be better!
I watched this video years ago planning to mod my Madcatz original TE fight stick which never worked on PC unless you bought a USB expansion slot with a specific chipset.
I just got around to modding it today and used your video as a guide. The only difference is where to wire the LED resistors other than that it went pretty much as in your video. Much thanks as I believe it's the most detailed video of it's kind on youtube for modding a pre-build fight stick. It was an invaluable help.
glad i could help!
Cool bro. I just got a set of Mad Catz TE1's. One is for X360 (piece of cake). One is for a PS3. SRK no longer exists. All the TE1 EZ mods are sold out the world over. But thankfully your tutorial is still up. I'll be doing this myself. Should be a piece of cake. Appreciate you!
Dude, your soldering skills are sick. I've done a fair amount of soldering in my time, but never as fast as you are doing it here. Good job. Whoever gave this video a thumbs down are clowns.
Zermelo thanks! Yeah I’ve modded with the UFB over 200 times so it’s very second nature to me. I have a few haters and dick riders of companies I don’t like but I don’t let it bother me :)
Just wanted to say thanks for this video! I was able to mod my Madcatz TE1 fightstick using this video. If anyone else plans on doing it I saw only a couple slight differences. The LED layout was different on my TE1, so I opted to not sodder those 4 points. Also on the inputs I didn't have an extra ground wire (K ground lock switch? next to the Start, Select, etc...) so I skipped that part. Other than that I followed everything else and it was pretty much the same. Thank you again!
This video is exactly what I needed. Thank you so much man.
Going to order my Brooks zero pi to fix the damn "old usb" issue with my stick.
Thanks for this video man! I bought my recently from Japan costed me 80 bucks I ended up throwing in a ufb like you did in the video
This will be my next project, mod a PS3 TE round 1, thanks man, great job
hi, my fight stick are madcatz TE1 and was hoping to use it on my notebook, will installing this enable my notebook to register the button input? was wondering if you successfully connect it into your TE1
Another thanks for the video. I don't have this exact stick, but a Mad Catz TE instead, but the turbo board is almost identical. I have the preinstalled header version and had to solder the TPKEY to the underside of the Brook board, and I soldered the original USB cable to the USB header so that the stick still looked stock. Unfortunately, even though my PC picks the stick up in XBOX 360 mode and works, it doesn't actually work on my 360 console.
If you're still answering questions on this video, even though it's 6 years old now, you pointed out the Lock Switch header on the turbo board. Later on in the video, you said that you're keeping K ground attached to keep the lock switch working, but does leaving ground attached mean that the start button and home button should both be disabled when the lock switch is engaged? Currently, mine only disables the home button. Would soldering the Lock switch header to Ground on the Brook board fix that?
You might have to hold 3P (R1/RB) to force 360 mode. I don't know if this is a console thing, but might be USB cable related. I would just hold the button as autodetect was never a selling feature for me.
You'll have to give me a timestamp for that part, but basically if you solder the KGND from the button distro, it will lock out start/select as well as home/turbo. If you're using an older TE, you might not have KGND in your button distro, and you'll have to splice the ground buttons from start/select onto KGND.
Hope that helps.
@@VictorRamirez214 so the board was defective and 2 more boards later, it works on 360. As for the lock switch, no, mine doesn't have KGND. I'll have to try splicing the GND from Start & Select. Thanks for the tip!
Are the LEDs the ONLY thing i solder within the turbo board? That might be the only.step i skip. I do want the home button tho.
This stick looks quite familiar... Hehe. Thanks Vicko. Playing it daily. Solid job.
AKAtan00ki ah yours... cool but why did he put the solder on the board, while on the stick? lol!
madatyoutoob because it doesn't matter if you're safe
27:49 since we have a GND on the bottom left part os this PCB, isn't it redundant to solder the GND on the bottom right at 12:50? Wouldn't it be easier to use the cable already originally soldered on bottom left?
Watched this video from start to finish. Very, very informative and one of the best tutorials I've watched for a noob modder like me. Soldering as you said doesn't really look that difficult, just need to make sure not to obliterate what I'm trying to solder but I'm going to mimic how you did it.
I'm buying all the equipment in going to need and just wondering, I know you used the stock wired to solder the turbo pad functions to the brooks PCB, what wires would you recommend via Amazon? Additionally what did you use to band them together near the end?
Thanks!
Just use any stranded core wire, I just use ethernet cable. I ziptied everything using standard 3" zipties, I get them in like 100 packs.
VickoMods Thanks man, gonna start ordering some stuff now to fry a few sticks lul.
But ya gotta learn and your video shows basically the ins and outs of modding PS3 Tournament Edition sticks.
Thank you.
i want to do this but don't know how to solder.
Hi. I bought one VS that sold by you few years ago , from someone. But it doesn't have brook ufb inside, despite the name is Madcatz VS x Vickomodz (and the plexi even got the serial number). Can you clarify this matter? Thanks
Thanks, gonna give this a try tomorrow. I've been running just the brook board... but out of a cardboard box that I'm too lazy to finalize, so I'll put my old TE to good use and save the other parts for another project. Would a strip of tape across the front help hold the buttons on the turbo panel in place when you piece it back after connecting the LEDs? Just speculating to myself, haven't opened up my TE quite yet.
Hi VickoMods. Thanks for the great video! You are practically the only one to mod this stick using a brook as it seems - so thanks for the resources, since im about to mod mine too. Quick question though: are you using standard IDE ATA Flat Band Cables for those front panel buttons, or do i need to get a special kind of cable? Im pretty sure i got some standard leftover cables lying around from my drone works, but still wanted to clarify, since this is my first brook and i dont want to fuck it up with simple stuff like this.
Thanks again for the great vid!
such wow no, I used spare jst cables I had from other sticks. You could use any thin gauge stranded wire
aight, got it. thanks a bunch!
@10:25 -- an easier way to remove the Loctite, the annoying red glue they put on the buttons, is to use a hairdryer to heat the stuff up until it melts and THEN you can remove it easier without worrying about scratching the PCB or stripping a screw covered in that crap.
Loctite doesn't work well anyway. Dunno why they use it.
However, be careful when using a blow dryer. It can also melt hot gun glue which is what they use to hold down/reinforce wired on PCB's, too. Heck, I use hot gun glue ALL the time for mods on joysticks because A) it's convenient and holds up well in most cases and B) because it can be melted and doesn't fuse, it CAN be removed later for convenience.
@13:51 -- After thinking this over and reviewing other pics of the TE (and later Mad Catz model joysticks), I think we may have to solder a wire to the Lock Switch after all. There is no K Ground Wire on the TE1 PCB so you may have to solder to the Lock Switch here which I understand IS a common ground. Someone claimed (on Focus Attack Tech Support) that "older a separate wire to the back of the PCB (in the picture, it where the black wire is soldered). It is a designated common ground for the lock switch. This is where the ground of the button you want to allow the On/Off feature to be used is to be soldered." Furthermore, he elaborated, " I would have one wire going to the Start signal (like normal), then the ground wire for the Start button goes to this one. The button(s) attached to this special common ground will be unusable when the switch is in the Off/Lock position, but usable when in the On/Unlock position."
This makes me believe that in the case of the PS3 TE1 PCB you have to run a ground wire from the solder point of the Lock Switch here to a GRD terminal spot on the PS3 PS4 board if you want lock switch functionality with a Brooks PS3-PS4 Board mod. This is where you pointed out the Lock Switch before, right in the middle of five solder points, third point from the left above where you have your optional wire.
Another difference I noted in the PS3 TE1 PCB is that the power and ground positions for the USB cord (which you cut off in this video) are REVERSED. The solder positions are OPPOSITE SIDE (faceplate side for the Turbo and Home buttons). You have to flip the PS3 TE1
Can you mod/wire the LS/DP/RS switch in a way that putting the switch on LS/RS would works as an L3/R3 button press? basically turning the switch into buttons? I know there was a mod for this ("GumMod's TE Home Panel" I mentioned earlier) but this board can't be found anymore, so I wonder if I can do it manually. L3/R3 are not used that much on fighting games but sometimes you need it for menus and etc. Is it just a case of simply wiring the LS/RS to L3/R3 on the brrok instead of wiring it to the switch part?
Thanks for the tutorial! I ran into a problem with my home and turbo button: I soldered to the two points you showed in your video; however, when I check continuity with a multimeter, I have over 100 ohms of resistance. Is there something simple I am overlooking? or could I have ruined this points with too much heat? I don't think I had the soldering tip down on the board much longer than you did in the video.
figured it out: I connected VCC and all is well
Thanks for a great video, I just completed mine and everything works perfectly. Only thing I think is I blew the player leds since they light up when I connect to my ps4.
I have the MadKatz Street Fighter IV TE stick, but I can't find instructions on how to update the Brook Universal Board's firmware. I can only find instructions for the PS3 sticks.
It's the same no matter what kind of stick you have, hold select and home/plug in, click start on Brook software. Make sure lock switch is off.
I just want home button in this stick , what should I do?
Do you still respond? Does the LS/DP/RS switch still work, or are you stuck with LS/RS now only, since you only connected that part?
edit: the brooks ps4 pcb changes the modes by holding start+select and left/up/right depending on what input mode you want to use
i show at 41:23 that the RS works
@@VictorRamirez214 oh yeah, gotta edit my comment. You can change the input mode from the brook itself with the button combinations. So works as it should for me
@@TheMegaPingasMobile true, but the way i wired it lets you choose via the switch on the madcatz daughter board :)
@@VictorRamirez214 it didn't work for me, on madcatz te ps version and the ps4 pcb. But everything else works so big thanks for the video
@@TheMegaPingasMobile you probably soldered to the wrong headers/pins in that case. If you wire as I show in this video, it should work without having to use shortcuts on brook pcb. cheers.
hey i just mod my hrap n3-sa witch brook audio board pcb. main buttons working but joystick isnt! but if i try connect pcb direction with button its working. why is that happening? can you help me?
@VickoMods I am looking for a video of someone who installed the brook whilst keeping the turbo/ls dp rs Led panel still working. I noticed the video is 1 hour, I would like to know if you successfully got this panel working, and if you did, I suppose soldering and modding was necessary?
What a weird way to say you don’t want to watch the video!
@VickoMods, I ended up finding the part where you dealt with the turbo, it seems soldering was needed afterall :(. Great video, very detailed.
Thanks for this tutorial, when my PCB arrives I will follow every step of the video, so helpful. I only have one question, does the jack exit of the Mad Catz TE Round 2 still have utility or modding with the new PCB ruins the exit?
Axiel Stellar I have no idea what you mean by exit
In this picture you can see that the Round 2 version does have a headset port on the front.
images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/714jAn6PNCL._SL1200_.jpg
Axiel Stellar Xbox versions of the stick had a headset port while ps3 versions didn’t, it wasn’t specific to any model. Unfortunately, headsets are not supported on the UFB.
Thank you soo much!!! I dind't know that ps3 and xbox360 were different. I think being capable of using the fighstick in any console it's a better trade off.
So if i want to use the original usb cable i need to solder it right? Hate solder :)
You don't have to use the original, you can swap in a new one by taking apart the cord compartment
+VickoMods , i did the same like on this page www.ozhadou.net/upgrading-an-xbox-360-te-fightstick-to-brook-universal-fighting-board/ and after that i dowload the ps4 patch. Connect to my ps4. Home button and back/share, start buttons are working. But alle my punch and kick buttons don't work? What is the problem?
Is there any difference between using a ps3 version vs an Xbox360 version of this stick for the mod?
yes, the home panel is different and also the button distro is wired differently. the 360 version is much easier to mod.
hello I have the hori fighting stick v3 it's possible put that board in it and how could I do it
hi, my fight stick are madcatz TE1 and was hoping to use it on my notebook, will installing this enable my notebook to register the button input? thanks alot
yes
I tried this mod but ran into a small issue, my buttons don't work unless I hold down on one of the buttons which points towards a daisy chain issue but I don't know how to fix it, any advice?
You probably wired the distro wires backwards. Are the buttons in order at least?
@@VictorRamirez214 they were original buttons were but I took them out to try and rectify the issue. Sorry but what is this distro wire u speak of? Anyways thanks for replying :)
Brilliant video...but...I wouldn't get a circuit board with it's sharp solder points on top of an acrylic fight stick- as she might scratch, and have an angry customer to deal with...apart from that, it is a lengthy process to take full advantage on a MadCatz...
It only took as long because of all of the explaining I had to do. What do you mean about the sharp points? If you're careful you can do anything with any board/stick combo.
+Victor Ramirez (VivoVicko) To my knowledge the bottom of a circuit board will many times have sharp soldier points- I do mobile audio and I've lacerated more than a fingertip in my time. maybe the bottom of the Brooks is smooth?
+Danny Ingamells haven't had an issue like that with any fight stick pcb
yeah, well- do you do this professionally- or just a hobby? Want to do some stuff to a xtekken pro series stick...want to add a Crown Joystick and a Brooks...
So, the Mad Catz TE PCB board is a close cousin to the VS PCB?
I tell you, I see very few differences externally! They break apart the same way but you have to remove the faceplate from the TE; you mod from the top, not from the bottom like here.
I may be getting Brooks Fighting Board (PS3/PS4) to bring up my first (of 3, maybe 4 if I mod all) TE to PS4 level AND to get the stupid stick compatible with my PC!
The joystick worked on my last Mac but these non-compliant USB MC Gen 1(Round1) Mad Catz sticks are very hit-and-miss with PC (Windows; I've heard that Linux doesn't have this problem) no matter what OS you're running! I've not been able to get them to work on any PC I've owned... I'm hoping the Brooks board takes care of that!
My Hori's and MC Cthulu sticks all work! That includes PS2-era sticks with USB adapters...
I could turn on the video caption, because I need to enable translation. Thank you.
@13:51 -- If you wire (solder) the Lock Switch, terminal area on the Brooks border does this wire screw into (or get soldered onto)?
Also, IF you keep the Turbo for the TE, can you solder and support the Turbo LED's on the turbo panel with the Brooks Board?
I'm asking because I'm running a PS3 TE joystick. I want to keep as much of the old functionality.
On second thought, looking at the Brooks board (I got the PS3-PS4 original version with the breakaway board sold by Paradise Shop; lost example they had in stock!) and the TE1 PCB, it's kind of pointless to try and solder the TE1 LED's. The Brooks Board is made mainly with PS4 generation sticks in mind for all the extras. We're lucky it DOES support as much as Turbo regardless of whether Turbo is legal in tournaments or not! The LED support on the Brooks appears to be for Player LED's on the later-gen TE's. I honestly do not know what the Player LED's are for (other than disguising yourself from an opponent, confirming what stick slot you're controller is occupying on the system it's hooked up to?). The question is DO the turbo button LED's for the TE1 light up anyway if the PS3 TE panel is soldered to IF the TE panel is powered? I have no idea... I haven't seen mods of the TE1's and this tutorial is really the only one I've seen online. Half the stuff that was on SRK seems to be missing and the image hosting services that USED to be cheap are really stingy on what they let people post online anymore.
A lot of people doing dual/multi-mods own the XBox versions of these controllers. They had a lot more mod support and generally easier to install (little if any soldering) PCB's. I remember installing MC Cthulus on 2 joysticks and soldering RJ45 lines to those 8 little points on that small PCB board was an exercise and a half! I don't know how I did it!!!!
First-Gen (TE1) Mad Catz do NOT have R3 or L3 buttons (Hori HRAP's of PS3 era do from HRAP 3 to the HRAP N3 series and VLX models). None of the PS3 sticks have touch panel; touch panel is a PS4 thing for people not aware of that. I can safely say there are at least 8-10 terminal positions on my version of the Brooks Fighting Board I won't be using...
The main reason I'm doing MY MOD is to get adequate PC support for my Mad Catz TE1 sticks. The PS4 compatibility is a bonus.
There is actually more support for PS3 features in the Mad Catz turbo panel than say a cheaper MC Cthulu PCB.
A Cthulu is wonderful if you're into retro consoles and want the PC support BUT if you want a more up-to-date stick (PS4 compatibility) and more of the old MC functionality you have to look elsewhere.
One good thing about the Cthulu is I don't have to bother about the DP-LS-RS selection on PC! It just works! I have PC games (Typhoon being a good example) where I have to flip between LS and DP to use an HRAP! If use a PS2-era controller (I have 2 PS2 HRAP joysticks), I have to completely remap my joystick buttons to play those games in emulation!
Hey Idk if you still reply to comments from this video, but I'm going to be converting a Round 1 stick using a Ps4+ Audio, and I just wanted to know what the name of the cord you used to solder the home and turbo/touchpad button. (I know I don't need that specific cord, but it would be significantly easier since it's what you're using for the tutorial.
use any stranded core insulated wire
When i hook up the turbo function of the brookes UFB I cannot figure out how to adjust the speed of the turbo. Any ideas ?
No speeds, simply on/off. Holy turbo and press button = turbo on/off for that button.
I have the fighting stick pro ps3, it’s work on PS4 despite of the home button. I just want to know in terms of control only, any advantage if I swap the original to brook ?? Would that be faster responsiveness ??
dont change the pcb for "lag," change it for added compatibility
Ok got it
How did you find the points for the Home and Back features on the board? I got an Injustice Fightstick as my first real mod project and want to be able to use the existing feature buttons, I'm having trouble finding any info for the stick itself. I plan on using the Brook Universal btw.
Go on srk tech talk and do a search. I used a multimeter to find the points. Put one probe on ground and another on different points and press the button until you find continuity.
Thanks, I'm thinking of just going without the existing components and just using bondo or something to fill in the unwanted ports. I can live without a lockswitch, just got to keep the button mashing to minimal.
Hi there i got one of those brooks Cards en My arcade and i could not make it work
rip
I'm buying a brook to update my PS3 Street Fighter x Sanrio Madcatz (the Hello Kitty One). I guess it's basically the same right? Specially on the LED panels (I want the LS/DP/RS switch to actually work). Also, can I rewire the Home/Turbo buttons on this panel as R3/L3?
It’s exactly the same
You can rewire anything to anything
@@VictorRamirez214 Thanks! I'm really bad at soldering tho so I'm dreading having to do it lol. If I just ignore this panel I can avoid soldering completelly, but having 2 buttons less and no LS/RS switch is gonna suck
@@Hardivh you can skip the ls/rs because you can use the macro to switch ls+rs, I believe it’s start + select plus left/down/right to select ls/DP/rs
@@VictorRamirez214 ooooooooh that's true, the UFB has some macros for this and touchpad right? The ideal thing to go with those would then be the "GumMod's TE Home Panel" to get extra functionatilty for the panel. Too bad it's not being sold anymore
Hi, have you done this mod on a PS3 Hori Arcade Stick as well? I was wondering where the solder points are for that sticks PCB? I opened the stick up and the board looks a bit different. I have a Brook coming from Paradise Arcade this week. Thanks :-)
Of course the board is different, it's a completely different manufacturer lol.
Which Hori?
+VickoMods DOA 5. I tried the Brook PS3 to PS4 converter, but no joy.
Last Round? Haven't messed with it. Get a multimeter and do some probing.

amazing tutorial, is there any advantage of using brooks controller over stock ? in terms of lag when using on ps3/pc ? thanks
NO additional lag.
@@Vickomods I have this stick should I get brook fighting board and do this my self? Or is there any ez mod for this stick
Hey sorry, I'm definitely late to the party on this tutorial, but it's been how many years and still nobody's made anything even close to the same. I'm using the MadCatz TE Round 1 tournament edition for the ps3. It's basically the same stick, the only problem is I'm using the Brook PS3/PS4 Audio Plus Rev 2. I can follow up to everything up until the LED's. I've actually already set up all the buttons, but it seems that for this specific board that home and turbo button are a real bitch to get working. @@Vickomods Oh well, I'll rewatch this until I get it right. Thanks for responding!
With this stick and UFB does the Turbo function still work after the mod?
Bob Huynh Hi Bob, no, as touchpad is more useful than turbo. If someone wanted turbo, if the board supported it, would be left at the customer’s request, but as it’s not tournament legal and you’d get more mileage out of having an extra button, it isn’t advised.
do you think this would work with a PS3 Madcatz TE-S ?

Hello bro.. can i mod this to a ps4 brooks?
You can mod anything to anything. Follow this process for whichever PCB you'd like to use.
Do you know when they will have the LVT3 back in store
No clue, email them!
+VickoMods I did they said in a month 2 months at the latest
is this a similar process to upgrade the mayflash f500 v2?
More or less, you're going to essentially disconnect everything from your existing stick and put onto the brook board. It's much easier to get a universal mod kit that comes with headers and a wiring harness than it is to retrofit a retail stick if you're new to modding.
would the process be the same for madcatz TE round 2 for xbox 360?
+Trung Phung 360 version of any madcatz is easier. You will still need to solder the USB and the turbo/touch/player LEDs if you want them, but if you don't care about those you can drill the hole in the cord door a little bigger and stick a new usb cable through.
+Trung Phung Did you delete your latest comment? To answer your question, you can't feed a normal usb through the cord door of a TE without cutting it or making the hole bigger. So if you don't want to drill your hole, or you don't want to use a neutrik, you'll have to solder.
+VickoMods yes, i did delete it, i have a Neutrik so I figured out the question 2 minutes after, i drilled my stick, lol
+VickoMods i have done all the P and K buttons and back, start and xbox home buttons. Now i want to solder the rest to have full functionalities: turbo, LS,DP,RS switch, lock switch, all with LED. But i can't figure out what is what on CN4,5,6 on the old 360 PCB, and don't know whether the LED is in those areas. Can you help me fill in?

turbo is labeled, right under xguild. KGND bridge to KGND from your button strip.
Turbo LEDs - Buttons Labeled as D(number)(button)
CN5
LS - L Stick
RS - R Stick
Turbo LEDs - Labeled as D(number)(button)
CN6
USBVCC - solder to VCC next to player LEDs or tie into J3 Vcc for brighter LEDs (recommended)
GND - Ground
D3-6 Player LEDs 1-4 in order
Hope that helps!
Is this how you install on a Xbox 360 mvc3 te 1?
skygabriel09 no, read the comments below. I explained it on another thread.
Oh okay can you tell me what thread? cause I've never installed a pcb befor or soldered
Oh and is it easy on a te one?
skygabriel09 read through the comments; it's on this page. 360 is almost solder free on a TE so much easier.
Okay I think I found the comment I'll hit you up if I got any more ?
52:52 shots fired hahahah.
Lol yeah straight up calling out Gummo. I dremel too so I guess I'm a weirdo :)
that looks pretty easy goo tutorial.
Good*
+Batman also you can do this on the ps3/ps5 board right ?
+Batman basically the same process, just different pins
Is this still covered by the manufacturer warranty?
prndownload you crazy
Is this similar to madcatz fightstick pro ps3 ? If yes so I need to solder anything if i just want the home button functional? Thanks
I answered this question in the video and in the description.
+VickoMods thanks didn't see the description part
