Jeez well Scatterbrain over here has EVERYTHING on his desktop haha, this was quite informative though and I like your videos. No idea how you memorize so much between cuts. :S i;m struggling with that as a newbie, so I end up cutting every 10 seconds
glad this was first in the list to reccomend, it will help greatly! Why I did not do this sooner and decide to change when going from mac to pc it will now all come together...
this is Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious video...:) now, the real test is how ez another person can use and find things in your file structure thanks a lot...:)
great tips -- im always trying to short cut things and not have to go through all the pre work --- but pretty clear that it takes what it takes -- all the preplanning and structure is necessary for sanity - beginning to embrace it.
Just found this video today and super thankful! Been very frustrated with my workflow/organization as I’m starting on this content creation journey… excited to give this a try!
Love it!! If you want my full video system, def be sure to check out my signature program, launch with video. I breakdown my FULL editing process from import to export (and help you get set up with a system that allows you to outsource your editing for 6-8/hr) ... and that's only the editing module (there's a lot of other goodies in there for growing an online biz using video): amandahorvath.site/launch Or check out my free 3 part video series where I break down the full system for how to use video to grow a six figure online biz 😊 amandahorvath.site/start
Thanks for sharing! I've watched a pile of these types of vids, but most systems are too focused on dates and not flexible enough. I've been hoarding footage for two different types of content (Digital Art and Bushcraft). Some projects were filmed over months, so dates don't help. I also have personal vids, livestreams, whatever. I am drowning in disorganized footage, spread out on dozens of small hard drives or SD cards. If I don't get them organized, I'll never get them edited or uploaded. I think your system seems the most promising one yet!
So helpful. I just got started with my channel and I’m already drowning in files. My partner got me an external drive and I just needed some guidance on how to start getting organized 🙏🏻 thanks!
Come to my free live training on Wednesday! I'll be sharing my system for how I keep it all organized and efficient 😁 plus I'll be diving deep into how to double your biz using video
This is a fantastic video. You are so right! I am not a RUclipsr but I tend to store my documents and photos all on my desktop and it substantially slows down the machine. How big of a hard drive do you have? What size do you recommend? What is the best way to store your photos? Do you download them off the iCloud (or anything similar) and save them in the same way? Any software that you use, like the iPhoto?
Hey Amanda, good info! Your future self will definitely thank you for organizing, haha. We've recently made to make our client projects folder more sortable. (In your video, the equivelant might be the list of projects inside each month) We start each project with YYYY_MM_DD (eg 2020-07-07). That way we can sort chronological in finder, while also seeing when the project took place.
Hi! What do you think about deleting the individual clips after finishing a project? I have done this for some videos to save space. What are the pros and cons of keeping/trashing individual clips after having exported the video?
I’ve been trying to find a system myself and this gave me some really good ideas! I have a similar structure. Month > Project and I have my main Final Cut project living here and have separate folders for other assets (e.g. Footage, Screen Recordings, Images, Uploaded to RUclips). I do like your A-ROLL and B-ROLL folders though and might borrow that :) Since I want to make things consistent, I created a _TEMPLATES folder at the root of my version of “AH Content” so I can copy and paste my folder structure into new projects. Thanks for making this! I plan on checking out your batch filming videos soon. I’m struggling right now to record videos one at a time. I think if I dedicate one day to recording multiple videos, that ensures I always have SOMETHING to work on :)
Great comment!! One quick note - I would just keep a master template folder so you can save space on your hard dive. I mention that at some point in the video (think 3/4th in or something). Yeah, I think you'll love the batch + outsource video. Also the naturally read a script video has tips for cutting down on the time it takes to script/record. And of course, the Quickstart guide is suuuuper helpful too: www.amandahorvath.site/quickstart
So quick question, you don't even have an April folder in this video. Did you record this clear back in March? Just curious as to how ahead-of-the-game you stay in regards to recording and producing versus posting? Have lots of videos held back so they are ready to post whenever you choose?
Do you store family videos the same way in finder or do you keep them in apple photos or Lightroom etc? Or do you keep both in finder and then in an app as well? I can’t make up my mind on the best way to do it
Thanks for the info. I just subscribed to your channel and I wanted to share some feedback that in my opinion would help your channel some. Making content a bit more concise would attract more views i believe. But overall love your channel
Great outline Amanada. I've been struggling with file structures and will attempt to utilise some of your system. With a variety of clients does this change the way you archive? For my design business my partner has written a relational database tracking system that tracks all files associated with a client and a particular project. Im going to get him to try to adapt it for our new video projects for our clients. We've just been put into full lock down again here with some bad covid numbers so I may have some time to reorganise our files.
I feel you on the second wave. AUSTIN is apparently one of the worst cities in the US now 🤦♀️ As for archiving - I just backup my entire hard drive. That's the extent of my archive. I could clean out unused files if I was meticulous but it would take so much time. I had in my contract with clients that I would give them a full copy of everything and I encouraged it. Most videographers don't like doing this, but for me, it was a safety thing in case my copy was corrupted. I also was able to say that I'd only keep their files for 3 months after the project ended (I still keep them all, but safety once again)
Thanks for the response AH. We're still in our first wave! We had some careless security guards at our quaratine hotels sleeping with returned travellers and then going home to large families!! Good grief... anyway I digress haha. I would be interested in seeing an interview (perhaps a mock up) of you introducing your contract to clients and outlining the process to them and dealing with contractual issues. Sounds boring now that I write it down. Maybe just an outline of how it sometimes plays out. Have a good one. See ya from Muz in Oz!
It's funny you say this. I'm dealing with a contract issue right now actually. Ugh. Sometimes clients just suck and no matter how good the contract is, they find a loop hole hahaha Have you watched this yet? It's not about contracts but I talk about the proposal process: ruclips.net/video/dBLjwx-5Y30/видео.html
This is not a good system. You shouldn't be saving Proxies; trash them after the project is finished. Don't use underscores to put _instagram or _youtube at the top of your wind. That "workaround" is already suggesting you're going about it in the wrong way. LABEL your footage. OMG. Dont' leave P1533061.MOV like that on a HDD.

Thank you. I don't have time to step back and think this through, so I appreciate having someone share their approach!
Her smile is so contagious.
glad this was first in the list to reccomend, it will help greatly! Why I did not do this sooner and decide to change when going from mac to pc it will now all come together...
I litterly spent 6 hours filming and editing a video for all of the footage to be black at the end D:
thank you!
Great video Amanda! I always run into that issue of missing files in Premiere so I’m glad to hear how fellow RUclipsrs handle their projects!
You def won't go missing files anymore with this method! I love it.
this is Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious video...:) now, the real test is how ez another person can use and find things in your file structure thanks a lot...:)
Wow I was literally just wondering about where to store my videos, you are needed on RUclips! Lol, thanks so much
Love when that happens 👏
Just found your channel! Great video and can’t wait to start using your system to get organized!!
Good to know about organizing video files structure before starting in video content
Thank you, my laptop was about to explode :)
Outstanding Amanda, I needed to see this flow to maximize mine.
Yeeeess, so key!
Great content. Really helpful!
This helped a ton! Thanks Amanda! from your newest sub :)
Looking for the proxy video you mentioned. Can’t seem to find it
great tips -- im always trying to short cut things and not have to go through all the pre work --- but pretty clear that it takes what it takes -- all the preplanning and structure is necessary for sanity - beginning to embrace it.
You should also buy a NAS with RAID 1 mirroring
Loved it! Thanks for sharing useful information with us!

Nice! I needed this
Thanks!
Love your videos!! So useful! You are so underrated 😱🙏🙏
Good video 👍👍! As a current RUclipsr, I am always looking for new ideas! Nice Job!
Great Video Amanda! I follow a similar type of organizational structure for my projects!
Way to go!
Once again, great info, looking into a tried and true system 🙏

Nice and helpful. You are like us - a Good Company to be with :-)
I edit other projects on top of fledgling RUclips stuff but your system is very thorough and easy to understand. I love a well organised hard drive!
It's amazing how similar your structure is to mine. Enjoyed the video and thank you!

Greeeeaat idea. Love that. Do you also add the name of the project after it? Or do you always have to remember when you shot it to find the project?

How are you doing the screen recording? Many thanks!
Look up "Amanda Horvath snag it" and you'll find that video 😁

still confused about your organization in Premiere. Where do those folders come from? are they the same as the ones on your computer?
You create the folders from scratch. Happy to do a coaching session and get you all situated if that'd be helpful! www.amandahorvath.com/coaching

You bring up proxies but don’t attempt to explain so don’t know if it’s over our heads or not
you are gorgeous !
Save every single video you make, incase RUclips takes down your channel. Like they did devonte the one
