Operation Phakisa in the Maritime Sector collapsed ( only transnet with big Projects succeeded) The reason was that relevant Departments were never fully involved i.e. Trade & Industry Economic Affairs and Transport had no clear role in facilitating tangible projects. Operations Phakisa never reached the Maritime Industry as we know it. Lastly, basically it was a 5 year programme that should have ended in 5 years time ( 2020) as budgeted for. One would have expected regrouping of expects to evaluate it and re- budget , if necessary. I don’t know now but the concepts like : wasteful expenditure, fruitless expenditure et al. Is Operations Phakisa still budgeted under the project that would have ended in 2020. Did the experts in SA re- evaluate the project ? I think we need to know about successes and failures after 2020 phase and consider the way forward and budget thereto. Is it possible to take operation Phakisa to the Maritime industry and businesses at grassroots level. They watched Phase 1.
