Great video love the setup...I'm coming from MTB looking to get my first road bike and after many reviews this series from Trek doesn't break the bank and checks all the boxes for a first time road enthusiast to a pretty novice rider which I love. Thanks again for the great review.
That bike is awesome, great video man. I have the same road bike, just mine is red and with a SRAM Red Groupset and a Quarq power meter. It's a lovely bike. I love it.
Hello. Awesome looking bike! Alloy frames are just as good as carbon. For part of this year I put carbon wheels on an older Trek 2.3 (after my carbon Emonda SL6 frame broke :( I like your video! Custom builds are so much fun because you get to build it exactly the way you want. I live in Connecticut and I built a steel frame this summer. It is lightweight. Very fast because of aerodynamic wheels (by HED). I am going to look at your channel more. I hope to ride in NYC once this year if there is a warmer weekend at some point.
My domane sl5 broke also, that’s what bought me here, and I’m glad I did, really appreciate your work and explanation for the bike setting, it really helped me out!
@@Taihaki You're welcome. Those HED wheels are 25mm width with 25mm Schwable tires too. I switched out the wheels for Bontrager Aeolus Comp 5 TLR wheels. Compared to the prior wheelset, I feel a little stiffer because the current wheels are 23mm with 23mm tires. I also feel a little more aerodynamic. I believe a lot of people forget that the definitions of lightweight and stiffness are subjective. Carbon frame and carbon wheels always win that, but it's like rigor mortis stiff. My steel frame and alloy wheels do a good job of softening bumps or minor holes. I ride for fun and fitness so for now, I'm happy with my set-up.
@@Taihaki I still have that 2.3 Alloy frame. I currently use DT Swiss RR511 wheels on that bike. This set-up is also stiff and it helped me get a PR in Strava on an uphill climb segment. This bike is a 2012 year model. I will use it for two more seasons then retire it for indoor trainer rides. Afterwards, I'm looking forward to doing a custom alloy frame build because alloy is stiff stiff but soft enough to soften out those bumps and minor holes like my steel frame set-up does.
I also got that frame last year with 105 r7000 and fulcrum zero wheelset with OSPW and ceramic BB and I got 7.5kg for the whole set up. I'm bad on climbing but at least I can climb much faster. So I'm thinking what if I get aero wheel at least 50mm.
I love my carbon bike, but there is something so much more interesting about custom alloy bikes. I'm hoping to do the same, its just really hard to source a groupset rn.
@Mr Zazovia I got the Domane because I recently had two hip replacements and I was not sure how comfortable I would be on an Emonda. I think my next road bike will be something like an Emonda as I'm quite comfortable riding in the drops.
@@am7jeremy i have the 105 caliper rim brakes not the disc and my goal was to get the 32mm gravel king tires, www.panaracerusa.com/collections/gravel/products/gravelkingss7b , but looks like i may have to settle for the same tire but with the 28mm version.
Thanks for the great content! I have the 2020 sl5, which i upgraded the wheels and seat post to carbon. Lately been wondering if an aero handle bar would make a big enough difference!
Thank you for the review. How would you say the Emonda does on more broken roads? I ride mostly pavement but some of it is a bit beat up, so was originally thinking Domane, but this bike looks so much sportier.
Hi! Nice Rig! I have an Emonda as well, size 56. I just pulled the trigger on a 4iiii Powermeter as well, how's the clearance from the crank arm and the chain stay? I am running 105, which came stock on my SL5 Disc.
how do you like the brakes. i had the same on my 2016 emonda slr.. but i found them to be really weak and upgraded to dura acre 9100, very noticeable differenece
They seem to be working fine to me. I’ve never had Dura Ace, I’ve always rode Ultegra and these are lighter and blend into the frame well. They are a bit annoying to adjust but otherwise they’re fine.
Nice bike. In the video, you mentioned the brake being Bontrager. Is that Pro or just normal speed stop version?? What is your opinion about the brake in term of durability & performance vs Ultegra or Dura-ace??
It's the pro version. I decided to go Bontrager to try something different. Personally, I think the Ultegra or Dura-ace brakes are better. Dura-ace will be a great upgrade.
@@dwaynepedals thanks. Currently I am using ultegra brakes, nothing to complain about. Only I like the cool look of these Bontrager Pro brakes, & thinking about 'upgrading'. Am having 2nd thought now.
@@beng4653 I can agree with you on the cool factor these brakes may have. However, adjusting them can be a bit annoying but once you have it set it's good. I sometimes feel like the Ultegra brakes spring back better. But then again maybe I just need to clean my bike lol.
Nice bike. I was noticing how long your seat post is when you mentioned that you could have gone with a 60cm frame. How close to the minimum insertion point are you on the seat post?
I just picked mine up yesterday!! I’m 6’5 230. I went with the 60. It’s nimble. I love the ride. I watched one of your other videos and was convinced that the Emonda was best. I was between this and the Domane. I’m in the DC area, and there are plenty of hills! Lol I have to pump a hill just to get out of the house! I took it out yesterday, and immediately crushed my PRs. @@dwaynepedals I'm just wondering how tall are you, you said it is 58 cm bike? Also, i'm new to biking , do you recommend trek fx fitness bike or road cycle for someon elike me?
@@JitinMisra Hey bro. I’m 6.1 and 58cm is nice for me. The Trek FX is a nice hybrid bike but you may want something with a drop handle bar like a road bike. The road bike would be a good choice.

Great review ! I am planning to buy the Emonda ALR5. Is this bike good for long rides? I am having dilemma in choosing between Domane AL4 and Emonda ALR5. I would be very grateful if you would suggest me. Thanks
Bike runs awesome! I’m a fan of the Emonda if you want a dedicated road bike. If you want to ride with gravel and be more versatile then the Domane is a good option.
I've been considering buying a rose pro sl (great value here in Europe) , geometry well fitted for me but it seems it's not very stiff so am changing my mind.
Well in terms of stiffness it’s great but not as good as my carbon bike. The bike is a great climbing machine. I haven’t raced on it but I image that it will out perform. The frame combined with carbon wheels, fork, seat post & bars makes for a very comfortable ride.
I'm about to buy this bike. Trek recommends me size 56 but I tried size 54 and tested with a 100mm stem and felt nice. Can you please share your height?
Are u using a K-edge 35mm or 31.8mm? I have the handlebar but the 31.8mm k edge mount dont fit, unable to clamp it. I was wondering which one you have before I proceed to purchase the 35mm

It’s a bit harsh on broken roads unless you pair it with carbon components I.e. wheels, bars , seat post to help dampen the ride.
