I watched this video, and enjoyed it today. It was fitting, because the other day I watched a video where Braydon Bringhurst did the Whole Enchilada in reverse. Very humbling. It’s a hard trail in both directions.
It's one thing to ride it in reverse. Brian could do this, given his fitness level. However, Braydon's goal was to CLEAN the entire trail, which is really a completely different beast. Like how "riding" Slickrock vs. "cleaning" Slickrock. I've cleaned all but one or two sections of Slickrock Trail, which puts me in the rare minority of riders. Everyone else who "rides" it walks a LOT of the trail's hardest sections. Additionally, Braydon made it even HARDER for himself by limiting himself to brute riding technique. If he had instead used trials technique, he could have mastered The Snaggle in one or two tries instead of FIFTY TWO attempts! That said, he cleaned The Snotch in like four tries, which is beyond impressive. This is what made his attempts even crazier. Complete insanity, if you ask me. He's a total beast.
@@dudeonbike800 8600 FT is required viewing for every mountain biker out there! ;-) Yeah, I was wondering why he wasn't just "trialsing" a bunch of that impossible stuff. Didn't know he intentionally avoided using trials technique. Watching him spend a whole entire day practicing on the snotch made me realize how often I take the easy way out in life, lol!
I tried to ride the Whole Enchilada this July. Had to bail at the beginning of Porcupine Rim because my friend was on the verge of heat stroke. This trail is no joke, respect it.
Definitely looks tough! Btw, if you're riding you should wear an nta helmet like xnito or bern hudson, or even a full face helmets, I see a lot of people wearing cpsc helmets, those don't really protect you
I'm not one to typically take the time to leave a comment on a video. But, I felt compelled to today to let you know how much I enjoy your videos. Skiing (both resort and backcountry) are my primary vices, but I started mountain biking two years ago. I found your channel this past summer and have been watching religiously ever since. While someone like Remy Metallier might have more intense riding videos, you are still my favorite MTB channel. Your sense of adventure, your transparency and genuineness of both the good and bad while on the trail, the hardships and suffering of challenging rides, and your constant kid-like joy and laughter while riding are what keep bringing me back. You inspire people every day to get outside and enjoy the natural world around them. You're one of the most refreshing personalities on RUclips and I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for your videos. Keep riding and I'll keep watching :)
Agreed, Brian is more "of the people". Watching Remy is epic but watching Brian is like riding with a good buddy. Most of us can relate to Brian's skill level.
Right there with you dude. Resort and backcountry snowboarding have been my main things, and haven’t been able to get enough MTB’ing the last few years. Cheers from Utah!!
I can't believe you rode the snotch section. I just did that the other day and ended up crawling/sliding down that section. It is so much bigger and steeper than the video makes it seem haha. This trail is a meat grinder. Don't let the elevation profile deceive you it is intense. I just rode Kokopelli to Porcupine Rim and into town, it was in the upper 80's, and it took me over 4 hours and I ran out of water and had brought 3.5 Liters with me.
My boyfriend and his dad took on this trail today. I watched this video to see what they were getting themselves into. You make it look so easy!! I’m so impressed at the skill and the beautiful scenery!! Praise God my boyfriend and his dad were able to make it down the Whole Enchilada safely. Thanks for the video so I could have a peace of mind on what they were up against!
I love that I recognize all of this, not from previous videos (although I've seen plenty), but from actually riding it all, with you and Chasing Epic back in 2017. Man, those are great memories. ❤️
Seeing you go down this after watching Braydon Bringhurst climb this whole thing puts everything in a different perspective. Scary stuff in both directions...
I see how to go down. I still can't believe Braydon went up! Just the number of small features that we see in this that were glossed over in the film is mind blowing. Like none of those bits were worthy of screen time given the recorded content.
If you haven't seen it yet, check out Braydon Bringhurst climb the entire trail. If he has to step off at any point, he retries the section. Ultimate goal is to clean the entire climb (not in one try) in one day. Awesome documentary.
I appreciate you sharing your struggles as well as your successes! No matter where I am in my MTB journey, Moab pushes me to my limits. It inspires me to see someone as accomplished as you to be in the same boat! Thanks for the videos!
The part no one ever talks about is just how significant the climb up Burro Pass is and the effect it has on the entire rest of the ride. It is a ferocious, hard climb and if you're not prepared it will make the rest of the trip miserable, if not dangerous as you get into it. As you mentioned, it's not just a free for all downhill for 30 miles from the top. There's still a lot of uphill along the way and if your fitness isn't up to the task you could easily find yourself in over your head.
Your warning is spot on. I was surprised at how spooky the rim was because by then I was pretty beat. Bucket list ride...yes, but I likely won't do it again. Too many other rides are calling me.
Just got back from Moab. Thank you for this video. It really helped get us ready for our whole enchilada ride. You did a great job capturing the experience. Thanks for cutting out the boring parts, though people should really know that Kokopelli and upper porcupine are terribly boring and long. Your disclaimer about trails, having to have some less than exciting parts to connect all the good parts is spot on. Your Captain Ahab, video was great too, very helpful.
Haha yeah, there are some pretty boring stretches, but it's always worth doing Whole Enchilada once!! Glad you had a good time, that's what these videos are all about!
Want to thank you for the awesome videos. My wife just bought an Ibis Ripmo V2 and is loving it!! She is riding more confidently and smoothly. Thank you for showcasing Ibis!! We are gonna hit up Moab later this month to really see how much better the Ripmo is!

The uphill through the coloured forrest Was incredible! Thats why I love your videos so much, you show more or less all the tourparts with live comments! Also very nice that I could watch the whole enchilada three times now within a few days (You, Braydon and Remy)! Would have been funny, if you even had met each other there! See you on the trails! 👏🏽👊🏼
@@bkxc Your'e not only trying, but you're succeeding! Wish I could just blow out of work and head on down to Utah and go riding too.. Just picked up a 2023 Santa Cruz Hightower X01 AXS. Lovely bike but the trails are pretty wet up here in the PacNW.

Nice Job on the Trail. Can't wait to go back and hit that one again soon. The last time we did this, my son broke his wrist about 7 miles in. It was a Long Day! Oh ya, and paying for food in Moab these days feels like paying for food in Park CIty... UGH.
If you make it to Northern California and would like to take an intermediate rider on a ride or two, I’d love to join you. There’s so much that I can learn. Thanks for all the videos.
You mentioned something that caught my attention: your tire pressure comment. If you start at sea level and travel to 5000 feet for a ride, expect your tire to be 2-3 psi higher when you get there and vice versa. You said you were up at around 12K feet; that's an additional six psi in your tires at the top of the climb. When you descend, the pressure goes back to normal, but when the temperature drops, so do the air pressure. I did some fat biking in Colorado, where the pressure of the tires was adjusted at room temperature; as I climbed, you could feel the tires get stiffer, and when I descended, they looked a little flat at the bottom of the descent. It was only a few pounds, but enough to feel the rolling resistance change. Since you love Coke, here is a fun thing to do. At altitude, you open a bottle and seal it with that altitude's air pressure trapped inside. Now descend to a lower altitude, and the bottle shrinks and collapses. I have done it on an airplane multiple times, which is why they serve canned soda, not bottled.
Hello.. Enjoying your MTB vids. I am about to get back into riding after many years away. I am watching this and thinking.. no damn way could I do that trail. I'd die inside the first 100 FT down the trail. LMAO
This is a top quality video of Whole Enchilada. Your confidence on that insane SNOTCH is enviable. Total commitment and you rode a perfect line. Actually, it was as if the terrain was riding YOU if that makes any sense, lol! That impossible switchback turn seems like it can only be cleaned using highly advanced trials skills. My guess is less than 1% of riders can do it. Maybe 3% can complete that whole section as well as you did. ;-)
I absolutely loved Hazard County and UPS! Most of the ride I loved, haha. It was super wet that morning, so Jimmy Keen was the thickest muck I've ever been through! Little sad the road to Burro Pass was closed when I did it, but probably for the best. I barely made it down as it was ;P ..like, literally. Almost fell off the cliff into the gorge, and once I got back to the sidewalk in town my back tire went flat. Still 10/10, would do again when I upgrade to a Canyon bike!
🇬🇧Sensational Video Dude!!You keep those boundaries well pushed Brian I'll sit here with sweaty hands again and give you much RESPECT!👌🤘😎🤘You have the nerves of a LION!!😄

Rode the whole enchilada and captain ahab a couple of months ago, great time. Did however watch someone fly straight off the right side of the cliff off the snotch, scary stuff.
Nice memories this video produced. I was at my riding peak when I did this trail. I agree with your assesment about the trail. Incredible setting but as a trail, there are mo better ones.
That's some fast riding! I'm glad that you mentioned tire pressures. My home PNW pressures would be way too low for that trail. Also, thanks for show some of the climb. Being from Seattle, it's good to know that I'd be climbing a steep grade at a high altitude.
That spot where you stopped right around 19:30 is where I broke my neck. Made it past the first few drops and forgot there was a few more and started to slow down. Too late to speed up or stop once I got to them and endo'd right onto my head. I'm all better now though! 😅
Not sure how this isn't on your trail 1 list, unless it's simply because it's not a trail you can ride "day after day" if that's your top criteria. One of my all time favorites, due to the diversity. Epic and your 4 hours was a nice pace. I need to review what's on your list. Cheers and thanks.
"Only problem when you rent a really nice bike it's hard to go back to your bike at home" - This was an interesting comment for me because I recently rented a really nice bike in BC while on a trip; sure it was great, but when I got back home and rode my own bike (that would go for literally THOUSANDS of dollars less than my rental), as an average rider who just likes to get out I actually didn't notice THAT much of a difference and if anything I was actually happier to be back on my own bike that was familiar to me since I've been riding it for years. In a way it made me really realize that it's easy to get obsessed with needing all the most up to date tech when actually, what you have is really just perfect and more than enough to have a blast out in the woods. Made me forget about cruising pinkbike ads for hours and just accept that what I have is more than enough to get out and ride and in a way has made it all more enjoyable for me. Anyways, great riding as always and hopefully see you out on the trails one day!!
Your review of the Mojo 3 inspired me to get one, it’s my most treasured object and my son and I did this (from Kokopelli, too much snow at higher elevations last October) and it was such a joy! Great job!
Judging by the shadows and the two dudes in matching Hawaiian shirts, you were just a bit behind us that day. Lucky you didn’t see many folks. We dropped RIGHT before all the shuttles and had folks all day around us. Thanks for the vid. Now I don’t even have to try and edit any of mine for the day. I’ll just show folks yours that wanna know what it was like lol
Great video Brian, much appreciated. I feel like the horse thief drop in is much more intimidating and technical than the snotch. You’ve accomplished them both 👍. I’ve only had the pleasure to do WE from hazard. Maybe next year I can get Burrow! Cheers
When I was recently there in September almost everyone with us ran out of water. It would be awesome if there was a spot to stage a refill. I can only imagine what it must be like in the summer. Great Video of the W.E!
I think I could handle most of Whole Enchilada with the exception of a few of those rocky spots lower on the trail. Portal is a Whoooole nother story though! No way Jose!! That one is definitely outta my comfort zone
I also just watched 8600 ft with Brayden Bringhurst where he climbed the WE. I hope to one day ride this trail (down not up) :D. Well done on the Snotch. Awesome!
Thank you for your wonderful videos. I really enjoy “riding” these mountain trails with you-on my stationary bike-with my Oculus headset, watching you on the RUclipsVR app. It’s really odd, but when you’re riding uphill, it seems harder for me to pedal, but when “we” are going downhill, pedaling is so much easier and faster, lol. Amazing what VR does to your brain! Have you ever considered filming in 360? Please keep up the great work!
Nice job. Instead of watching this, I'm going out for a ride so perhaps sometime in the not too distant future, I'll have the base & fitness to ride TWE. I'll reward myself with this AFTER my ride!
I lol’d when you pulled out a coke. Now I don’t feel bad for drinking coke after rides. Haha. Great ride, I’m heading down next week to ride dead horse point rim tail.
Nice! I used to be a manager @ Moab Cyclery. My roommates and I started Hazard County trail in the late 90s. I miss being in Moab.

- This was an interesting comment for me because I recently rented a really nice bike in BC while on a trip; sure it was great, but when I got back home and rode my own bike (that would go for literally THOUSANDS of dollars less than my rental), as an average rider who just likes to get out I actually didn't notice THAT much of a difference and if anything I was actually happier to be back on my own bike that was familiar to me since I've been riding it for years.
That's awesome to hear!! Whenever I rented a bike it was always so much lighter and performed so much better than what I had!
Your review of the Mojo 3 inspired me to get one, it’s my most treasured object and my son and I did this (from Kokopelli, too much snow at higher elevations last October) and it was such a joy! Great job!
Wow, so cool! Love to hear it!
It is well worth the 12 hour flight from the UK So much riding in that area
Watched Braydon Bringhurst Climb the Whole Enchilada in '8600FT' Movie last night. Your descent makes his accent even crazier.
Yes!! Such a cool movie
Nice!! Haha yep, I've done all the editing work for ya!
Definitely glad my bike came out in 1 piece when I rode it last year
Haha yep!
I really like this channel cause its so relatable..especially thay squeaky sounds on the bike haha
Hahaha, gotta hate em
Great video Brian, much appreciated. I feel like the horse thief drop in is much more intimidating and technical than the snotch. You’ve accomplished them both 👍. I’ve only had the pleasure to do WE from hazard. Maybe next year I can get Burrow! Cheers
Yeah, I think Horse Thief is a bigger pill to swallow as well! But my mind always had The Snotch as something impossible to do!
This is hypnotic, great ride
When I was recently there in September almost everyone with us ran out of water. It would be awesome if there was a spot to stage a refill. I can only imagine what it must be like in the summer. Great Video of the W.E!
Oh man, sounds harsh! Yeah, if they could pipe in a water fountain it would probably save some lives.
I think I could handle most of Whole Enchilada with the exception of a few of those rocky spots lower on the trail. Portal is a Whoooole nother story though! No way Jose!! That one is definitely outta my comfort zone
Haha, I know what you mean!
Love your channel, just found it. Great stuff
wonderful nature sceneries, thanks for sharing !
Great video Brian
I'll be in Moab this weekend, can't wait! Not quite ready for the WE, maybe one more year under my bel...tires!
Yes! It's worth training up for.
Do it! Just take tour time and walk the big stuff. And go slower than Brian on all the chunky stuff lol.
Lovely mtb ride
Awesome, ride. My bike is already up on the trainer as my part of the world is under about six inches of snow.
I also just watched 8600 ft with Brayden Bringhurst where he climbed the WE. I hope to one day ride this trail (down not up) :D. Well done on the Snotch. Awesome!
It's an awesome challenge to take on!
Am from Kenya i love watching your videos🔥🔥🔥
Thanks Akash!
I’ve been saying “next time” at that spot at 32:00 for over two decades. Last did the WE on my 71st birthday four years ago.
Hahaha, here's hoping for many many next times!
Great footage, thank you. Subscribed.
Moab is so cool man! Too rocky for me, and way above my skill level! LOL But I do love watching you do it....Great vid!
Glad you enjoy it!
Nice job. Instead of watching this, I'm going out for a ride so perhaps sometime in the not too distant future, I'll have the base & fitness to ride TWE. I'll reward myself with this AFTER my ride!
What a ride! I think the greatest single ride in the Continental US… but I also think Sedona is the better place to do a mtb trip.
Thanks! Absolutely love your videos!
Wow!! Thank you so much, that is incredibly generous!
Bucket list to do this. Gotta travel all the way from Norway first
It's worth it!
Just did this for the first time a few months back, so much fun but so physically demanding.
Most definitely!
I lol’d when you pulled out a coke. Now I don’t feel bad for drinking coke after rides. Haha. Great ride, I’m heading down next week to ride dead horse point rim tail.
