  • For World Cancer Day 2024 we spoke to four of our group leaders about the work they are doing to better understand cancers and how to detect and treat them.
Professor KJ Patel, Chief Scientist of CRUK and Director of the MRC WIMM and MRC MHU, and his group are investigating how alcohol can contribute to the emergence of a number of common cancers.
Professor Andi Roy (MRC MHU and Department of Paediatrics) leads her lab in the study of childhood leukaemia, specifically blood cancers, and how they develop early in life.
Professor Ahmed Ahmed (Nuffield Department of Women’s Reproductive Health) is looking into how normal cells develop into cancer cells, with the aim of improving early detection of ovarian cancers.
Professor Ben Fairfax (Department of Oncology) and his group work on why some patients do very well with cancer immunotherapy, while others patients unfortunately don't get the benefits.
This video highlights just some of the amazing research being carried out by MRC WIMM researchers in this field.
