    Funny how Trump talks about the current inflation and then proceeds to raise tariffs? Make it make sense.
    Tariffs are paid by customers… not the place it’s coming from….

      Two different things there. Gov got crazy with spending and cause 30% inflation the past 4 years. Tariffs, believe it or not, will not raise prices that much. Also, it depends on what tariffs are put in place as they are usually specific. Add the savings on energy costs, and the economic benefit of producing domestically and it's going to be a boom for the middle class. Large investors who produce everything internationally then ship it to the US are going to lose billions. It basically punishes greedy capitalist who use comparably cheap international labor. That's why the advertisers on this news station pay producers to run hit pieces against these ideas lol. That's how the world works.

    • @hummersd
      @hummersd 20 дней назад +1

      Revisit your comment in a couple of years. Everything from China (10%), Canada and Mexico (25%). How will that not raise prices/increase inflation? Companies aren't going to take a hit to margin. They may compromise, but not at the full amount of the tariffs. What happened the last time when Trump did this to farmers? He had to bail them out, spending even more tax dollars. Shifting to domestic production takes time; you can't just immediately open a factory or create more farms on Jan 21st. And worker pay? Minimum wage for Americans is much higher than overseas, and he wants to lock-up or deport illegal immigrants, which is a large worker base for American companies, especially farm work. It's a global economy -- completely shutting off the world is insane -- what if floods or a hurricane (NOT government created btw) would devastate certain crops in the US. That's why you diversify. And raw materials imported are still needed, and will be subject to tariffs too. Revisit your comment in the near future.

    2:25 Ha! The biggest flaws with Trump's logic. 1) Many American companies buy materials from other countries. They will also have to raise prices. They will have to buy more expensive materials from someplace else 2) Out of season fruit often comes from other countries, 3) Some foreign products don't really have an American equivalent. Playing a Nintendo Switch is a very different vibe from playing an xbox. 4) Companies will raise prices as high as they can get away with rasing them the American products won't automatically be cheaper. Trump is out of touch because he is rich. These price hikes mean nothing to him.

      Just because I was curious about the toilet paper supply chain, there's some info from the port strike. From what I understand, the US produces most of its TP, but...
      "According to North Carolina State's College of Natural Resources, manufacturers rely heavily on eucalyptus pulp imported from Brazil. Eucalyptus pulp contains short fibers that make toilet paper soft and absorbent. The pulp is mixed with water to create a liquid sludge that is dried and flattened into sheets of paper.
      In a worst-case scenario where the port strike delays shipments of eucalyptus pulp to U.S. manufacturers, shoppers should be able to at least purchase commercial-grade toilet paper. Commercial-grade toilet paper is made from recycled paper that’s sourced domestically."

If you had paid attention, you'll know that last time Trump engaged in a tariffs war with China the result was higher prices, and ruining the soy farmers. China retaliated by buying produce from other countries, which were happy to trade. This time, Trump wants to tariff everybody.
      Guess what, genius. Everybody will continue to freely trade with China while Americans pay more for everything. Do you think other countries won't retaliate too, putting tariffs on American exports, making them less competitive against the Chinese ones? Who wins? China.

      Assembled in the USA does not mean all of the parts for the item were made in the USA. Check labels carefully. Often it says made with imported and domestic products. Do you buy frozen fish. Check where it comes from u might surprised. Check where lightbulbs are made etc. Heck even American Standard bath fixtures are often made in China or other countries that will have tariffs imposed on them. It’s not only China. Tariffs will be imposed on other countries also but at a lower percentage…

      What about your clothes? All made in the USA? Planning on wrapping gifts for the holidays? Where is that bag, ribbon or paper made? Carefully look at all the labels you will be surprised

    It takes a while to take effect so when are the prices likely to go up? Not until 2026 or sooner? I think for me I would be most concerned about clothing and J-makeup/skincare and Korean skincare. I buy these things since I am seeking foreign personal care products intentionally and sometimes they are less expensive too.

      @@starbuckstark4745 Securing the border and deporting every illegal will greatly improve the economy. Think of all the cheap homes for young families that will open up and all the entry level jobs for high school graduates that will be available! Look at all the cuts in spending on the illegals that will save our families a lot of money!

    I don't understand why people allow politicians to tell them sweet nothing ,I am in my 60s and ,I never ever know any leader ,anywhere on planet earth who ever roll back consumable goods prices to 5, 10 years in the past ,the only thing the president can do is try to increase GDP for people who Work ,like rase minimum wage or create a economy so that people can afford to pay for consumable items but rolling back prices is a pipe dream

      True, but tarrifs and mass deportations is a recipe for a massive recession and may put trump even closer to Herbert Hoover’s economy.
