Funny how Trump talks about the current inflation and then proceeds to raise tariffs? Make it make sense. Tariffs are paid by customers… not the place it’s coming from….
Two different things there. Gov got crazy with spending and cause 30% inflation the past 4 years. Tariffs, believe it or not, will not raise prices that much. Also, it depends on what tariffs are put in place as they are usually specific. Add the savings on energy costs, and the economic benefit of producing domestically and it's going to be a boom for the middle class. Large investors who produce everything internationally then ship it to the US are going to lose billions. It basically punishes greedy capitalist who use comparably cheap international labor. That's why the advertisers on this news station pay producers to run hit pieces against these ideas lol. That's how the world works.
Revisit your comment in a couple of years. Everything from China (10%), Canada and Mexico (25%). How will that not raise prices/increase inflation? Companies aren't going to take a hit to margin. They may compromise, but not at the full amount of the tariffs. What happened the last time when Trump did this to farmers? He had to bail them out, spending even more tax dollars. Shifting to domestic production takes time; you can't just immediately open a factory or create more farms on Jan 21st. And worker pay? Minimum wage for Americans is much higher than overseas, and he wants to lock-up or deport illegal immigrants, which is a large worker base for American companies, especially farm work. It's a global economy -- completely shutting off the world is insane -- what if floods or a hurricane (NOT government created btw) would devastate certain crops in the US. That's why you diversify. And raw materials imported are still needed, and will be subject to tariffs too. Revisit your comment in the near future.
