I'm so happy the show has been renewed! I love Janelle James. That scene when she sits in the chair and falls back out of it and my favorite line so far , "Sweet baby jesus and the grown one too!" I had no idea that was an ad lib and it's even funnier now knowing that!
I'm a retired public elementary school teacher (after 40 years) and I love Abbott Elementary!!! And so does my 87 year old mother who is a retired elementary school TA. So, we can totally relate. My daughter who worked for our local school district and my 16 years old grandson turned me on to this show. I just love, Love, LOVE it!!!❤❤❤

It's so sweet to see Janelle Jones and how much respect and admiration she has for others. Principal Ava is an incredible character, one of the funniest I've seen in years.
She was still playing an incompetent person in the row giving zingers and saying crazy things, so I don’t think it would be like Moesha. However I think because Janelle is a comedian that role as a principal is funnier because she’s putting a little bit of her comedic timing into it. Sheryl Lee Ralph does well at playing the grounding character who is traditional and set in her ways especially since she is a Jamaican descent. Quinta casted them based on their strengths and I think she did a phenomenal job because the chemistry that her character has with each of them is perfect based on who is playing the roles.

@@BlackNerdist the magic of the show is partly because everyone is casted appropriately. The Blanche Devereaux vibe wasn’t Quinta’s vision for the character. The casting has to match the vision. The writing is based on how the character is originally conceived. Now sometimes actors take a character to another level. But I can’t imagine Sheryl being as comedic as a Rue McClanahan nor as a Janelle James. Sheryl is better at playing characters that have comedic moments here and there as opposed to playing comedic characters.
Well the principal in "Abbot Elementary" is very different from the principal she played in "Moesha". That's probably why she wanted to do it. Also when "Moesha" started I think she was a teacher and was eventually promoted to principal.
I love how this show caters to the humor side of the audience but also focuses on the theme of teaching and the struggles of teaching. I’m sure a lot of people can relate whether a student, teacher, etc. It’s such a heartwarming show that throws in comedy. Just brings me overall joy. Can’t wait for 10+ seasons.
It was great seeing them this morning, it was such a surprise! Been jonesing for Abbott so I've been watching season 1 over and over and it's still so funny🤣
We saw 19 year old Ms. Ralph in the Piece of the Action in the theater and she was wonderful as a student. Mr. Sidney Poitier hired Ms. Ralph for the part in the movie he directed. We love Abbott Elem. and we're looking forward to the new season of the show.
Mrs Howard was my 1st and 2nd grade teacher! Mrs Mcclendon had such a good 1st grade class that she went to the principal and asked if she could teach (some of us) two years in a row. Definitely one of the most unforgettable teachers!
It's interesting that Sheryly mentioned her role on "A Piece of the Actio"n where she played a hardened inner city student. Because when I see her playing a teacher in this (and also in Moesha), I think back on that role where she started. Epic 360.
