Can understand your hesitancy to compete, but always love seeing your builds, Maybe a separate category like Ben vs Crimson, you vs your staff (but like 4 or 5 of them team get to collaborate together to build one guitar against you) you have brilliant minds working for you

I'm gonna catch hell for this but...ebony is overrated.
I know I know I'm going straight to hell. BUT, it just looks black. flat black paint also looks black. Yes it has structural purpose on things like violins and tone properties on acoustics and pale moon has character, BUT, but basically any wood dyed black, or painted black looks like ebony. You cant replicate the 3d effect of quilted maple, you cant fake bookmatch grain, or gold inlay, live edge and epoxy is neat as shit, and burl is basically magic, but ebony just looks like you painted something black and i dont get the concept of using that as decoration. a flex, sure, traditional build fretless instrument, definitely, but why is it so damn coveted? there's 80 different woods that have a uniquely stunning visual pattern to them that cant be painted on...and they're all consodered inferior to the one that looks like plastic or a well sanded shaker can spraypaint of matte black enamel. I ju-I dont get it.

The build-off wouldn't be complete without your entry, Ben. That said, nobody questions your skill or vision. Anybody who might be so inclined need only watch one or more of your videos. I really think you should make an entry-- you build guitars for fun, not profit, and the profit on this one goes to charity anyway-- but I don't think you should actually enter in the drawing. You don't need the skill competition or the accolades, and the whole purpose is to promote other, perhaps smaller, builders. Just my $.02, but that's what I think.

Ben, you are an incredible & inspirational builder. You deserve to be in this competition as much as anyone competing. Don't look at it like "I'm winning my own competition." Look at it like it it - you really are good enough. If you just mailed it in and made a standard tele kit, it wouldn't get the votes. Because you do incredible things, you get attention. Be proud of yourself! Be humble - but don't be self-deprecating!

Thanks for a great video, showcasing the amazing winning guitars... worthy winners all! I can understand your conflict regarding whether to enter your builds into your own effectively Crimson run competition. I was kinda wondering about that too, and just the general awkwardness if you then became a winner. I think, the reality is this... you ARE an incredible guitar builder and luthier, that's why I , and many others, continue to watch and be inspired by your videos, work, and general positive attitude. I'm therefore not sure you actually need to 'enter' the competition, even though it kinda feels strange to add any restrictions to this superb event and community. You are the master, who many of us have learnt so much from. You created this global event, and via this and your channel have arguably done more to raise the profile of guitar making and care than anyone else. So job done, my friend! Personally, I would still want to see you build a guitar for each year's event, but possibly as inspiration only? That way we still get to watch and learn new designs and techniques, but without any of the awkwardness of winning your own competition. Whatever, keep doing what your doing, you're a wonderful person, and I'm so looking forward to visiting your guitar museum, even though I live a good way away in Scotland. 😎👍🏻

I have to agree with your decision to share 3rd place, as 'Host' it puts you in a peculiar position and giving yourself a 'ghost' position might be the smartest resolution.
As an aside: I play with the guitar on my knee in classical guitar position, where the plug on most guitars land right on my knee. How would you resolve this in a PRS II SE Piezo (2 plugs, battery)? If you move the whole set of plugs to the upper side (mirror location), what would you put in the space you left? Or could you do it all with an XLR or special plug in the upper side and leave the lower side plugs (ghost power would be a great addition, I hate batteries!).
    Any thoughts?
    TIA, Jas

JFYI. When I tried to enter the drawings, no matter which payment method I provided (I tried different cards from different banks), your payment processor insisted my bank rejected the charges. They didn't, because the apps notify me when that happens, and I use those all the time. I eventually gave up. Maybe folks from the US can't enter the drawings? Or maybe you can support PayPal next year?
I went to your main CCG site to try to find a way to contact you to report it, but couldn't find anything. But because I visited, I did get those weird "Are you looking for something?" big-brother-is-watching-you emails from you all. Yes, I was looking for a way to report a site bug. :)

Yes you should take part, as it's based off a fair voting system, if yours wins it wins and by merit through others voting. It wouldn't be the same without you have some form of oh here is the idea at some point you thought of another one idea to add sometimes making life hard for yourself, and watching a form of regret mixed with panic, but then somehow not only pulling it off but omg never saw that coming. So please stay, take part yes mixed reasons why i loved it, i'll admit, but on things i do similar and end up making a job longer than i thought, and it's like oh yeah.

In my mind EVERY builder deserved to WIN! I would say ‘excellent work!’… but even excellent doesn’t seem to suffice. Really beautiful guitars!
I was so glad to see what Brad Angove produced. He’s a favorite of mine. During the lockdown, I needed something to ‘do’ to keep me on the right side of sanity. I came across one of Brad’s videos, and it sparked something in me. I ended up building a Telecaster/Partscaster by myself, taking a lot of inspiration from Brad. Had I not seen the casual, funny, ‘it’s OK to make mistakes - it’s learning’ manner in which he works, I don’t know that I’d have been able to work up the nerve to dive in. I learned SO many different skills along the way. I’m by no means a ‘master’ of any of them - but they’re each things I couldn’t at all do before. The successes along the way were enough to motivate me to keep going. And it’s Brad’s videos, along with those from Crimson Custom Guitars, from many others, that I owe an immense gratitude towards. It kept me sane, and I got a GREAT guitar out of the project. Felt it was worth telling the story here. I’m super grateful. You’ve all done a wonderful job, Ben.
Once again… we’ll done, ALL. Amazingly beautiful instruments! 👏🏼

I have an aversion (somewhat) to the guitar platform being usurped as an exhibition of artfulness. I have taken an inverted approach and designed a n electric guitar based upon playability with heavy emphasis on ergonomic concerns. The artfulness lies in melding beauty with (and never to the sacrifice of) engineering concerns. Not just manufacturing simplicity for the sake of driving the bottom line for mass distribution but serving the real needs of the player over all other considerations. How does guitar design (electric or otherwise) achieve yielding itself more to the potential payer? How artfully are the aspects of design correlated to meet that end? How successful is the resulting design in inviting a player to pick it up? How effortlessly is the artist drawn to create with the instrument? Does the instrument design further the development of the concept of design supporting playing? These are the questions which must be answered before, during, and after each build. I am awaiting delivery of the first prototype and working closely in collaboration with the builder allowing each of us to grow toward each other and bring each or our best to bear.

Plexiglass is a great material. I have built two hollow body guitars of two sheets of plexi and a bass with six layers of quarter inch sheets of plexi. That one is a beast at 11 lbs while the guitars weigh in at 5.5 lbs. I have battery powered lights inside one guitar and stuff from my recycling bin in the other.

I understand your feelings about entering your own contest, but I love the permission it gives you to practice unbidden experimentation. If you still build something you’re dying to try, but otherwise don’t have the occupational latitude to build during the rest of the year, and just auction it off for charity rather than entering it the contest, that may be a way to mitigate the concern. However, if you feel you would not build a guitar or wouldn’t put as much passion into the instrument without entering, I say keep entering. Your contribution as a work of art is not something I would want to see go away. I really feel like every entry combines to make the magic if this event happen. Thank you for all that you and your family do to bring this together.

What a stunning line-up of awesome builds,
each and everyone of them are a thing of beauty, where thought and practise create functional art.
Ben, this coming year you're still going to be in there with the rest, and you're gonna have your work cut out for you :)
So far, every single year has been raising the bar, and at this point, if you're winning a prize, you have earned it plain and simple.
Everyone at Crimson, have a wonderful Christmas holiday, and a splendid, creative and inspirational New Year filled with awesomness.
    Kindest regards, kamikazen1

I cannot believe I was not subscribed to your channel. I have watched you for years. At first I thought, this guy is arrogant... then I learned your sense of humor and watched your skills over the years. You deserve to win as much as the other builders. You give so much of yourself and it is noticed, but probably not as noticed as it was on this video. Your love and passion for building the community of instrument making came through in this video. You inspire us to share what we know and do. God bless you and Crimson Custom Guitars! Happy New Year!

I love this years entries Ben I've watched so many of them and I'm in awe of the amazing talent on display. Some people say knowledge is power but I've always said that knowledge is only powerful if you share it and that is the beauty of this competition. I've promised myself that if I am lucky enough to win Neil Paskins guitar I will get lessons and learn to play but I suspect that won't happen we can but dream. Keep the competition going my friend as the bar gets higher every year

As far as you being “in the running” along with everyone else?
ABSOLUTELY. The money your Entry earns is going to charity also, isn’t it?? It’s not like you’re pocketing the prize money!
    However, here’s an idea:
You could create a new sub-category under the Professional Category! Call it “Ben Vs. The World”.
The prize package could be something to you put together from the products you sell online! It doesn’t have to be worth much. Maybe your fans here on the channel could make donations to the prize package too??
And….if you do manage to win this new category, then the prize package…then goes to the person in LAST PLACE…IF….IF they promise to challenge you next year too! That way, the prize package helps them “step up their game for next year”??
OR…as an alternative….if you do win, the prize package goes into a hold-pattern and more gets added to it for next year? Kinda like a lottery operates if there’s no winner at the current drawing?
    I don’t know….just an idea or two….😁
