Thanks everyone for your support. I'm very humbled and I'm already looking forward to GGBO 2023. I hope I will see you all there and hopefully new builders will emerge as well. 🙂
Nice. Everyone I voted for won! That makes me feel really great about the decisions I made. There were so many great builds this year and it was so very hard to choose the top 10 much less a winner. I think everyone who placed deserves to be where they are. Congrats to everyone who participated this year. I will see you guys next year. Peace & Love.
You must know Ben, that the resurgence of guitar building and teaching guitar building to others, as well as guitar building as a youtube experience is entirely your accomplishment. Personally I have learned so much from your builds and had so many ideas pop into my head because of something you said or did that I am now incorporating into my guitars. Thank you so much for your expertise, professionalism, enthusiasm, persistence and creative mind. The fact that so many of your youtube students are building beautiful amazing instruments and creating their own videos to show and inspire others is nobody's fault and credit but yours. (A Led Zeppelin reference).
Congratulations to everyone. This was such a hard thing to decide. I love all the winners builds and we’re astonished by their talent. I actually started watching this years GGBO by watching last years Doctor Who build.
WHAT A FANTASTIC COMPETITION. Just when you think you’ve seen everything that can be done with guitars, you watch the Luthiers in this competition and you realise you know nothing. All nine winners are outstanding and included some of my favourites. I loved Gabi and Aaron builds last year and was looking forward to seeing what they would do in 2022. I have been blown away by both and I am delighted to see the recognition these awards have given them and the other winners. Brilliant.
I’m thrilled by the results! Congrats to everyone. I have to agree with one comment in the middle. A big shoutout to bonehead guitars for keeping the playlist and really being the spirit of this great competition! @boneheadguitars, thanks man.
I could'nt be happier with the results because Gabriele Reti and Adam Adair were my favorites. Great job, everybody, congratulations, and thank you Ben and the team for making it possible.
Yay to Adair Guitars, my personal pick of the bunch this year. Have to agree with your comments, Ben, just a lovely concept, such an immaculate build, and such good videos to boot. GGBO goes from strength to strength. Also congratulations to all the other winners, runners up, etc. a veritable plethora of great instruments, ideas, designs and craftsmanship.
What a woman ! Teacher, woodworker, guitar player, guitar builder and surely much more. I liked her acoustic guitar the most, but the 9 string djentstick would have also been quite up my alley with one string less . Congrats to everyone who participated this year, I'm still rocking the one I built last year, I wish you all the joy of playing guitar.
Congratulations to all who took part, building some phenomenal instruments and to Crimson for putting this out there.... If I were a TV Exec, i'd be putting GGBO on mainstream TV... Such fascinating work from all corners of the world! Truely remarkable!! Well done.
Ben. Thank you so much for creating this. I can't even put into words how great this is. Your contribution to guitar building and it's community is the most important thing to ever happen. This is not hyperbole. Is there a Nobel prize for this? If not, there should be and you should win it!
A great turnout this year. Really loved seeing everyones creations! I especially loved the Freestyle guitars, truly original work. Of course, well done to the winners!
7:47 Amazing! Incredible! At the guitar contest, he made a stealth aircraft!! lol So nice, cool, stunning design, Chris Weaver. And congraturations to all.
Great job everyone! You're all winners in my book. Congrats to the 8 people who placed, every single one of you deserves it. I don't have single problem with the way the voting turned out. See you all next year!
Absolutely inspiring winners, all! Well done indeed, thoroughly well deserved 😀👍👍. (Sweet T, I managed to pick the 2nd placed in all 3 categories with my votes! We should team up...)
So awesome! Can't believe the overwhelming amount of positivity ✨️ in this community of close friends, endeared fellow builders, and general acquaintances participating in such a beautiful shared interest ❤️
Another year another selection of absolutely brilliant guitar builds. My favourite this year is the beautiful blue Art nouveau acoustic with the multi coloured headstock. That guitar really blew me away as a work of art let alone as a beautiful instrument. Those that have had the chance to hear or play it ?Does it sound as good as it looks? If it does? I wonder what a electric thin line version would sound like with a black body and same neck and beautiful headstock?
Still finishing up my first kit build..but I can't help but have a daydream that I will enter the scratch build category next year. I lack the tools and knowledge to do a scratch build right now but I couldn't be more inspired to shoot for the stars here. I hope I am able to eat my doubts come next year though. I am only interested in headless multiscale guitars so its hard to find kits (cut or uncut) or tutorials for that style of guitar for a beginner at least but.. hoping I can find another kit and then progress to a scratch build soon.
2 things I like about this year's "build off", one purely positive and the other more a relief, Firstly, just so many wonderful guitars with builders encouraging and helping each other - and builders going in for the pure joy of it! The other aspect - the focus has been mostly on the building and the guitars, but so many endless series about instruction, not the guitars, almost as if auditioning for a teaching gig. If I hear one more person say "this is the masking tape and superglue trick...", I will scream! Thankfully these entries didn't feature in the results; maybe the competitor/judges are sick of superglue-and-masking-tape "announcements" too.
Yet again a great show of skill and imagination... fantasic ...After seeing the quaility and skill am not sure if i want to join in or bin all my tools and give up :) ...... am just starting on my journey of guitar building. I blame Mr Crow... hes like the pide pipper of luthers... you watch one clip/episode and get drawn in by his enthusiasm and cheeky grin..... this year was a great showingand looking forward to 2023.. Peace N love... Davey P.
Congrats 👏 I may not have taken it home with my 8 string rebellion star but there's next year looming over my head. Thinking of doing 2 entries next year. A bass with some flare and a guitar with racecar theming.
Congratulations to all the worthy winners as well as to all who entered, looking forward to see what the professionals and invitationals can come up with 👍
Congrats to the winners and everyone who participated, this year GGBO has been full of some pretty killer build! also, good thing jeff's build is the same name as mine, that mean's im also a winner right? xD
Always amazing to watch such amazing creators - thank you. How about a collaborative "pass it on" category next year? Each builder does a part then has to pass it on to another luthier, and so on until it is finished. A team build, if you like?
man I wish I entered xD I wouldn't have won anything, but I'm really proud of my build so far, even if I'm still finishing it up atm. maybe next time. There's a moment where it stops being a craft and becomes art, and I think everyone involved has the right to be called an artist. amazing work, and congratz to everyone!
Fantastic selections, thanks for sharing it in this way on Crimson's page - I think it will bring everyone a new audience. Looking forward to next year's competition.
Well dunn everyone a special thanks to you Ben ( Bun ) for putting all this together ❤ 👏 💙 you maybe having fun but the joy you bring to me and the rest of your viewers
I would only imagine that there needs to be a GBGBO Great Bass Guitar Build Off and a GMBO Great Mandolin Build Off added to the fray. Perhaps leading to a GVBO Great Violin Build Off culminating of course in to the SDBBO Super Duper Banjo Build Off. 😊
Congratulations to this years winners! I've not followed any builders this year, i'll have to go and watch the Middle Earth guitars build. I'm very curious as to why it's drilled for a 7 string and 2 switches but only equipped with a 6 string bridge and one switch... and still WON?!! because of that Idk if it would have got my vote.
It’s to do with the number of rings given to the different peoples of Middle Earth, innit: for example seven rings were given to the Dwarves hence seven tuner holes.
@@johnhutton9105 it looks like a mistake at best. Same with the extra hole for a toggle switch. Just my opinion, and not knowing the back story. I think people are drawn to guitars by the way they look 1st. If it was hanging in a store surrounded by 50 other guitars it looks like a 7 string neck on a 6 string guitar. I personally would keep walking if i was buying. Thats how i would vote
Hi Mark, the 7th ring next to the tuners represents the seven dwarf rings. It is a brass ring with an ebony insert. One switch is a free way toggle switch for the pickups and the other is a mini toggle switch for the build in fuzz circuit. In between the switches is a brass ring with an LED for when the fuzz circuit is activated. You can see how it all works in the build videos. Hope this makes sense. 👍
Bonehead Guitars GGBO2022 playlist was the place to go. It would have been nice if it had been done "officially", and directly available from the GGBO website, but much respect to Scott for doing it.
Iris is just excessively beautiful. I believe no one could play up to that standard of beauty. How does any player obscure to look at it in order to play it? There's just no way anyone could label Iris a "tool".
My one thought is to have a voting spectator voting member. I don't take part as I'm not in the field those that do are I'm several fields over the fence 😂😂 but they inspire my hopeless attempts so would love to vote not just like the videos.
The question came up on the q&a stream. Ben's been at hq a lot (launching a new business etc). No time in his home workshop where the hand-tool build resides. So no progress lately.

Extremely well deserved Gabi, you’ve been an amazing inspiration, so good to see both of those builds get the accolades they deserve 😊
Can you tell me how I can participate in the ggbo 2023, how does it work where to register .
Truly honoured with the result and to be in the GGBO with so many fine guitar builders. Congratulations to everyone.
Well done all! Awesome entries and very pleased as always to be a part of it. Thank you Crimson and all involved
