- In this video I am making a Screaming Skull Guitar for my 3rd submission to the Great Guitar Build Off!
I built a replica of a guitar that I first made 34 years ago while I was in university at the School of Visual Art in NYC!
All the parts for this guitar were supplied by Crimson Guitars, with all of the design and build, left up to the makers... Enjoy
For this guitar

The author does like to ruclips.net/user/postUgkxkNYRBJuiJ6EwD-tQSAlxg0eFKsnR2cgz from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. As another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us don’t have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we won’t be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.
Great work! I would love to buy that kit
Any good reason for putting the neck pickup in bridge position and vice versa? ...or haven't you noticed they have different pole spacings?
Форма интиресная, но можно было-бы её куда интиреснее оформить. Оттенить плюс переходы по цветам. Голову грифа можно было тоже тематически оформить...
Different. As is the one Pask made for the GGBO.
bad over 9000
Don't play any sweet songs on that Jimmy, you don't want that skull getting cavities! Seriously though great job!
Cringe
@@matty_isthemotto sorry I couldn't resist that Dad joke.
@@pyro323 don't apologize! 🤣
With that plug in the forehead… just image it’s a unicorn when you play sweet music on it.
Thoose knoobs are Just in the Middle where you hit the Strings. Doesnt seems confortable to play
This has some old school Diresta vibes! Almost like he was back in his dimly lit basement again! Great video Jimmy!
I love you Jimmy, but for God's sake give your great looking hard work a better looking finish. That varnish you use just looks like you don't care.
I remember the first one! What a treat to see the process of this new skull. Years ago I just thought guitars somehow just mysteriously existed, to build a functioning electric guitar seemed like an impossibility to me.
I remember holding it in my hands and just looking at all the detail and craftsmanship and realizing that I need to be a lot more fearless and the things that I create. ⭐ 🎸 💛
I love you Jimmy. Aesthetically, this guitar is a piece of artwork. Functionally, this guitar is a piece of artwork.
This guitar is destined to play metal
Horrible place for the controls, that top nut looks horrendous, and wish he would have done something with the headstock shape, but just love to see Jimmy work.
Man the wood grain really flows with the carving of the skull, looks sooo good!
Of course he can play the guitar. He’s DiResta. What can’t he do?
Carving always seems like magic to me. Fun to see the figure emerge from the wood. Hope this one does well in the raffle. Thanks for sharing!
You didn't torch it, but I guess it's still cool if you're into that sorta thing. 😁
Perfect way to start a Saturday morning. Cup o cof and a Jimmy video.
Such a bad a$$ piece! Awesome work Jimmy!
BADASS!
Wow! Reminded me of a Piranha with the teeth & head swimming away from the lead guitarist, such an epic emblem of the fragility of life & the power of living rock & roll. Thanks for sharing!
Aside from the great carving, the grain of the wood really enhanced the skull. Great job!!
Of course Jimmy can play guitar in addition to everything else!
As someone who has also built guitars, that carving was so deeply satisfying to watch unfold.
As someone who also PLAYS guitars, the layout of the controls was deeply disturbing to behold.
Also, the first time I've ever seen a nut blank being shaped IN PLACE on the guitar, and I both love it and hate it.
Cool!!!! And is there something that you can't do?)))) I am delighted!!!
Uri said you were on board doing that challenge too. I have been waiting for this video!!
I've said it before and I know its controversial, but I also liked the burned finish on your earlier guitar build.
There's 6 guitar build videos in my YT make feed this morning. Good luck Jimmy!
"She's a beaut, Clark"! I don't know why but I saw this and thought of GWAR, and W.A.S.P. Make another paint it black with flames coming off the skull. Cheesy? Somewhat. Expected? Yes. Cool as hell? Yes to that as well. The only thing I would have done different is a Marshall and heavy distortion of some sort, but that's just me lol. Great build Jimmy!
Could you remember any of the process from when you carved the first skull guitar so long ago?
Was all the same ☺️
@@jimmydiresta that's amazing that after so long it was all right there to remember 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
My cat went absolute apeshit when Jimmy started playing. Excellent work Jimmy, looks fantastic!
WOW you actually dropped the blade guide down !
But your band saw is missing the Finger Guard
Great video! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻хорошая work! 🏆 I suggest everyone watch!!!
Jimmy doesn't speed his videos up. He just has superhuman speed, strength and reflexes. In fact, to make his video viewable to the human eye he has to slow them down 100x.
So disapointed Jimmy, you were the best many years ago, but all your recent projects are poorly realised...your ideas are still great but thé results look like you are a beginner...come on Jimmy !!!
¡Awesome build! So you play guitar too? How many talents do you have?
The skull guitar reminds me of Venom , the alien symbiote.
Even if you are just listening to one of your Videos, its Maker ASMR, am I the only person that finds the hammering bits relaxing or comforting LOL
Sorry. Probably the ugliest guitar I've ever seen. Otherwise enjoy your videos very much.
It's nice design tho you guys are creative. I had only one personal guitar left. Acoustic and the old non brand name but I think it's good project. I borrow guitar to my friend but need speakers.
How many people today would probably just 3D CNC this and call themself a “craftsman?” 😣
Rock 🎸 On 🎶🎵
🎯💯👍
Epic... don't think I'm saying anything less, but the headstock was a missed opportunity. Tho I do know this contest had a time factor.
This felt rushed, or like you didn't care about the quality at all!? Love to watch you work, regardless.
The shaping and carving is great, and I know that many like the bare woodgrain finish, but as someone who has done stage lighting for bands in the past, It won't look as effective under stage lighting and its "stagecraft" impact will be lost to a degree.
Cool video. Love the bg music at end. Ha. Wicked looking guitar. Mahalo for sharing! 🙏🙂🐒
If I had a 3D file and a DXF I could possibly make this guitar body on my CNC router. No way I could do it by hand
It was all going so well until the knobs and switch went in over the strings.
But hey, this isn't being made for me. I wish I had the skills to build a guitar to suit exactly my playing style.
While this is awesome, I just don't get the placement of the knobs. Right in the strumming area.
Awesome guitar! You should put the output jack in the skull’s mouth if you build another one.
Awesome carving and even cooler that it's in a guitar. What was that rounded rasp/file looking tool you used where it looked like you were cleaning up some of the lines around 4:20?
The placement of the knobs and switch make this guitar unplayable
Now put some action figures on it and put it in the pond🤣 Edit: there should be a bass guitar fashioned like cross bones that fits into the mouth.
Of course he knows how to play the guitar... what a silly question.
Wow that's pretty cool looking. This is definitely very unique. Can't wait to see more videos soon. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Keep making. God bless.
For those who didn't know: get a hold of a pic of the "Passion and Warfare" guitar Jimmy carved. Personally owned by. Steve Vai himself! I believe it's still up in his guitar gallery on his website
Só poderia ter caprichado um pouco mais nesse headstock, destoa completamente do restante da guitarra.
Leaving the nut that tall, your action will be measured in inches not thousandths.
Jimmy hasn't measured anything in 35 years...and we love it
Woodworking and guitar shredding? You’re one talented dude.
Looks cool, but pots placement is very unfortunate.
Just mailed this one in. Why not do something original?
I'm amazed you didn't make it a talking fiery guitar skull!
Hi Jimmy! I’d love to see you build a case for a guitar...
Jimmy I LOVE ALL of your Guitars! How cool to be so Creative and use your talents to make something musical -such a Bonus.
So, he copied an existing design.. and put the controls in a place that makes the guitar impractical to play (he probably doesn't play guitar)... What a creative guy.... 🙄
It’s his design, though....so....
cool guitar!! maybe a poured epoxy body someday..
Narley axe dude ......( think I said that right )
I know you. You were that kid in school with the best notebooks!
You wear two pairs of glasses as well. There is hope for me yet! :)
Как обычно, очередная халтура. Ещё и по второму кругу. Лохам зайдёт, джимми бесплатно не думает.
It only plays the opening riff from Bad to the bone
That was a very cool build video. I want to learn how to build an acoustic guitar so I guess I'll just go do it now. Keep going!
Is that R2D2 in the background?
Aaaaaannnnnnndddddddd he’s also a luthier. Good god man.
Oh my,that one bad piece🤗😎🤗😎
Needs more colour contrast, to make it pop cheers.
This guy seems to be pretty good with a bandsaw
I reckon Lemy would have approved 👍
Kirain karya sendiri
Taunya cuma jiplak doang
The new "Jimmy" Hendrickx (?)
I think it needs shading Lol hard to see the cool little details.
Pretty standard for you as far as I can tell. Weird.
Why the block insert on the back? Weight?
Good job Jimmy Diresta well done
I love the head shape as is! Along with your logo it gives a nice raw wood look! 🤓👍🏼
😱The spook show sound tracks at the end. 😂
Yellow pine jimmy? Say it ain't so.
Who knew a skull guitar could be so beautiful. Great build sir
Was especially looking forward to this one, so neat to see your decades old idea have a new life; even more-so one that's been proven to be a successful one w/ the public ♥
Again your endless talent is on show!
Well done Very CooL
I want that.
Awesome video jimmy!!! So creative! Now….go grab Derek and the bass player and shred! 🔥
No Stairway? Denied!😲
That's awesome!!!
U R guitar maker since when?
🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
Una impresionante guitarra! Greetings from Barcelona, Spain.
You sir. Are my personal hero.
