🎉🎉 CONGRATULATIONS 🎉🎉
Congrats mate on third place! The guitar came out great and was clearly deserving of the honour.
3rd place! Congrats!!!!!!!
Congratulations on 3rd place and not knowing anything about Guitars... Against other pro/semi pro guitar builders!
I'm so pumped to see that you won 3rd place! I love this guitar and your design. and I also truly admire your creativity and hard work that not just went into this build, but all of your builds. from Alabama, USA, great job and thanks for sharing this build!
I'm so happy to have won it!!! I didn't play guitar since uni, but now I just have to master it :D
There are many guitar 'variants' in this competition, but yours is trully unique. That kind of hard work deserves some serious recognition, all the best, Neil. [someone needs to play 'Octopuss' Garden' on it! ]
Agreed but only if they play it in the shade.
Or maybe Metallica’s Call of Ktulu?
Glad you like it Keith - I thought about Octopus's Garden too! :)
@@mattrinne Damn. You beat me to it.
I am constantly in awe of the patience your craftsmanship calls for. I wouldn't have it in me!
I'm not sure why it is Tim but I honestly enjoy this sort of task! :)
That turned out so sick!!! I’m always so impressed by how much effort and love you put into your projects!
Thanks very much Morgan - It was a super fun project! :)
Do you have any Czech ancestors? Your surname Pavelka is Czech and very common in our country.
@@vonHannersdorf haha yah! I’m American but, yah my dads side of the family is Czech
@@morganpavelka4945 wow, cool! 👍🏻
Third guitar build I watched this morning and yours is hands down the best. The detail is off the charts!!
That was one hell of a lot of work just to give it away. I've always been impressed by the range of craftsmanship you bring to your projects, but this - this was unanticipated. Bravo.
It's for a good cause though Leif - glad you enjoyed the video! :)
That's wonderful - well done!
What you couldn't possibly know is that you can be much more aggressive in shaping, particularly the back, of the guitar body so it's less "square edged" - this process trims off a huge amount of weight and of course makes it more comfortable to play.
This might be one of the sickest guitars ive seen so far. You are a really talented and patient man. Whoever it wins can be proud to own a Neil Pask one of a kind guitar 👍
Greetings from germany
Thanks very much! :)
Hell yeah, I was hoping for this video!
Uri Tuchman mentioned the other day in his guitar build video that you were one of the makers that was participating in this challenge which got me really excited bc I knew you'd make something amazing and I have to say you did not disappoint! Neil my friend like always you knocked this out of the park, great job!! 👍👍
Thanks very much - glad you enjoyed it! :)
Very impressive the result.
I haven't seen anyone on youtube who has done something comparable.
I love your work.
Best regards from Germany
In my opinion, after seeing other entries, this is "The Winner". Amazing workmanship, as always, and a beautiful result.
I'm not sure about that but thank you! :)
OMG!!! "I'll give it a go." I'll say you did. Holy crap, Neil, that was outstandingly beautiful. Is there anything you can't do? Not only the beauty and refinement of those tentacles but the practical advice you're giving while working is just lovely. Thanks, mate for this beautiful project. Oh, and may I add, your videography and editing are outstanding. Thank you.
Thanks very much Vickie! Glad you like it and that you enjoy the videos! :)
Awesome to see you in the GGBO. Been watching both Ben at Crimson, and you since the pandemic kept me home. Good luck and love.
By far the best I’ve seen in this year’s guitar build competition! Well done as expected. It’s a beautiful piece anyone would be proud to have in their collection.
Thanks Lonnie! :)
Just stunning. The amount of work put into those tentacles is beyond what most could endure (myself included). An absolute masterpiece.
Thanks very much Mike! The tentacles were fun to make but my back was aching towards the end of some of the days. :)
Congrats on the 3rd place win!
Again, my mind is blown the craftsmanship outstanding well done Pask
first that is absolutley beautiful and second, I am so impressed with your patience and skill, you spent days just on the "suckers" alone! Outstanding and a joy to watch, thank you!
Good Lord, this thing is wicked! A perfect example of craftsmanship! Thanks for sharing
Great work again! I'm also a hugh fan of Crimson Guitars (Ben Crowe), so I'll vote for your design in the build-off.
Regarding the tentacles, I liked your bluing idea; however, I think it would be better to use them as highlighting/shadowing by bluing the insides of the suckers or something like that.
Regarding the finish, I like how you used the dyes. I've painted several guitars, and to do a 'burst' finish, I've used colored lacquers. I spray the entire body in a transparent yellow/gold, then I use a transparent red to spray along the corner-edges pointing toward the center on front & back, then I spray a black lacquer, pointing to the dead center of the sides about six/eight inches away & go around the entire perimeter. This gives you an overspray of the red & blacks that looks like a feathered edge to really pop & provide a bit of a 3D effect.
Keep up the great work! :)
Now you can add luthier to your list of achievements. Great job as always, I used to do a lot of copper and brass work so know how much work went into this project. Must unpack my creations and dust them off, unfortunately there's no guitar but I did make a copper hunting horn. Off to check out the other entries. Thanks again for a great video and fingers crossed for the comp.
All that practice really paid off. This looks amazing! Very cool nautical theme. Feels like it should be called something like the Ancient Mariner. Good luck in the raffle! Thanks for sharing!
Wow! Just Wow! What an awesome guitar. Thank you for sharing a fantastic build. I almost feel like the other competitors have no chance! But I wish everyone all the best.
The amount of work you put into a project always pays off with the result, beautiful as per usual, well done
Thanks very much! :)
Absolutely amazing!!! You are fearless!
The stain and vinegar patina worked out so well! I was sitting here thinking Pask should have gone for a blue/green patina, but in the end, I'm glad he went the direction he did. It looks like it's meant to be that way. Well done, sir!
Glad you like it Cody! I tried a green patina on a piece of scrap and I thought it looked too rustic for this project. :)
That's not only a guitar but also an absolutely amazing piece of art. Congratulations!
Thanks Lucca! :)
Neil your ingenuity, creativity, and patience for the craft are always inspiring. Great project!
I've been looking forward to watching you build this guitar for a long time. As I expected you came out swinging. To reduce the weight you could have route out a bit of the body under where the tentacles are maybe even cutting a slight lip to set the tentacles in to help hold them in place.
That's awesome! An absolute contender for the contest/challenge.
This is not only about a guitar, it's about passion and creativity as well. You know what to do, what you want to achieve and how to execute all ideas.
Truly a masterpiece!
Thanks very much Muhammad! I just tried to have fun with this project! :)
Just sick. Can't imagine any musician not wanting to pick this beauty up and jam out. Brilliant as always!
I have followed your channel for some time so I was thrilled to see you were taking part in the GBBO. Once again you have made something unique and worthy of any luthier. Well done and best of luck in the competition.
It was my interest in guitar building that got me on you tube and sent me down the rabbit hole to your videos so it's great to see this full circle and watch you make a guitar....aced it. Great work.
After looking at the other guitars, this one is the best. It is unique and a beauty! Pask, you keep saying you don’t know how things are going to turn out but you seem to nail it 99% of the time. Great job!
Congratulations on having built your first guitar, Pask! I thoroughly enjoyed the entire video and applaud your resourcefulness and sitck-to-it- ness! Outstanding build as always.
Positively TENTACULAR! Dunno where that idea was spawned but the result is striking. Well done Neil
Whatever you try, it becomes great! I love that organic design and the techiques you use. Big respect for that and happy chrismas!
The most patient maker on RUclips. Absolutely amazing work!
Pask, I've seen a lot of really cool guitars in my day but, those tentacles are spectacular! I'd put it in the top 5! Well done, mate!
Made with Love! So gorgeous! Best of luck in the contest! 🏆
Dang, Neil!!! This came out awesome!!!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️❤️❤️
Absolutely amazing artisanship in all areas of this build. Your copper craft is mind-blowing. This is the kind of guitar that becomes the signature of a musician. I was thinking how fun it would have been to shape the headstock a bit like a distressed ship going down, as if into the depths of the kraken below. Thank you for sharing your talent with us all.
SOpleased you entered this. In the first year of GGBO, you were my first thought as somebody who'd do something brilliant. Not disappointed.
22:46 I’m incredulous. You weld stuff! You made a kayak! Ah well we all have our own thing. Cheers and thanks for the video.
Epic build! I love watching these every year. Your design reminds me of Cthulhu
I'm astounded by the amount of work and creativity that went into this build. Pask never ceases to amaze me.
If you are worried about the weight of future projects. Instead of filling the carving with resin, use expanding closed cell foam. That would still give you a good gluing surface while adding only a few grams of weight.
Just watched Diresta's video, now yours, then 4 more. My YT feed is full guitar build videos this morning. Good luck, beautiful work, thanks from Colorado.
You can make pitch with asphaltum pitch, (hot seal roofing pitch) linseed oil and plaster or lime powder. Asphaltum is hard/brittle. The linseed makes it malleable and the plaster gives it body. Vary amounts for soft - hard, depending on much support you need. Use a heat gun to soften and apply your work piece, rub a light oil on the back to ease clean up. I've been using the same pitch for 40 years. I have a cast iron pitch bowl and wooden cradle for changing position/angle and a big, shallower metal pan for larger flat work.
Well done, quite an undertaking for a first big project. Your innovations worked pretty well for on the fly DIY. Someone is going to win a beautiful, one of a kind collectable.
It is said that patience is a virtue...you make it into an ethic....very fine project and thank you for sharing.
Outstanding!! I appreciate that you told viewers how much time it took. Loved the tenticle suckers detail!
Mate you have the patience of a saint👌🏼 awesome build as always.
That's incredibly beautiful and special, indeed! Fantastic job.
Stunning work Neil! Truly a pleasure to watch, thank you! :)
This technique is so amazing to watch, thanks for sharing. What a long process, glad you had your audio books!
I cannot believe how beautiful this is. And the case is such a nice touch. Kudos.
The patience of a saint! What a marvel of craft and design you got there, I am in awe!
I'm so glad you got in on the great guitar build off!!! This is on my bucket list and I can't wait to see how you've done.
i am really realy proud of you with your entry! its been years and i love you contentt
Congratulations Neil for your fantastic 3rd place in the superhard competition, and happy new year btw!
“Mr. Paskin, we would like 250 of these every month, please.” Seriously, you are one of these craftsmen who would be good at what ever you put your mind to. Well done!
Even from a kit, Neil makes ANYTHING look absolutely brilliant! WOW! I got some boys here in Texas that would LOVE to crank down on that guitar!
You can always tell how good a woodworker is just by the number of clamps. Another great piece of work!
It's amazing to me that youtube allows me to watch artists at work. The 80's were great but unless you knew an artist or were one, you couldn't dream of seeing content like this. Thank you.
Time incredibly well spent, what a gorgeous result!
Your talent and patience are unparalleled. Can not find any more words to describe it. What a unique piece of art.
Now there's a snazzy unit. Gorgeous. Hats off to you squire. All the best from a chilly Netherlands
Wow! UTTERLY mind blowing. I hope you win the contest!
my absolute respect, that was certainly a tremendous work and very creative too, i love it!
What a great result. You deserve something in the competition for this.
I am so impressed with all of the things that you tackle. Such a wide variety. Well done young man.
I've followed GGBO closely since it's inception a few years back (I even did my own amateur build in 2021) and I cannot say how pleased I was to see you were involved this year and my excitement was definitely warranted. Those tentacles look incredible, and the whole effect is stunning.
Nice one mate.
You did an amazing job! Who wouldn’t want this! Lot’s of hard work that really shows through!!
Very cool guitar, Neil! Don't think there will be one even remotely similar to yours!
You are a genius my friend, that's the winner right there.
Beautiful work, innovative, quirky, what a great result!
Gobsmacked at the detail & perfection put into this. For someone that said knows nothing about guitars, you definitely upped your game, even the rifts at the finish!!
Your skill sets never cease to amaze me
Wow!!! Das ist ein echtes Meisterwerk. Ich ziehe meinen Hut vor ihnen und ihrer Arbeit. Diese Gitarre ist einfach wunderschön 😌👍
Liebe Grüße aus Deutschland 💪
I don't even speak German and I agree with this comment. Meisterwerk indeed!
Thanks very much! :)
That guitar is out of this world. It´s so unique, made by a Master craftsman. Fantastic work!!!
Stop! That's too awesome! Amazing design and workmanship. Absolutely fantastic.
I love the concept, the process and the result! really well executed mate! :D
Release the cracking. Wow that's cool. Very nice job. Can't wait to see more videos soon my friend. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Keep making. God bless.
Wow! The copper work is astounding pask!
*Spectacular*
Your facework with Jimmy's skull body work would be epic. Your tentacles would be the hair for his skull!
Bravo!
That is amazing. I wish I had better words to say that. Honestly, impressed.
P.S. had to chuckle at RUclips's choice of ads. I kept getting Doctor Strange fighting a tentacle monster. 😂
Being a guitar player and builder I can tell you that's a cracking job you've done there Neil and also Ben at Crimson Guitars is partial to a bit of copper himself, winner mate.
I love it !!!! you do an amazing job with anything you build...
Absolutely fantabulous job there Neil, if I were you, I’d put it on the wall behind you to remind everybody just how good you are!
Looks awesome! You can give the copper a really cool finish by rubbing some vinegar and then spreading some saw dust on it. It will react and "age" the copper in just a few minutes. Keep an eye on it, and then clean with water (it doesn't need too long or it will look too aged!). Cheers!
Stunning work! Would love to see you do some more guitars! Your attention to detail, creativity, and patience blend beautifully with guitar building! :)
Your skill and patience is amazing! That combination is really what sets your work apart-in combination with your imagination of course :^) Great work!
The trick with hot glue is brilliant, by the way! I have a lot of sticks in the workshop, so I'll keep that in mind :^)
You are so incredibly talented and patient!
Omg! I want that guitar! I think I want it more than life itself! It's stunning! The amount of skill and effort that went in to make that is just astonishing.. To have a tiny bit if your talent, work ethic and patience..
Fantastic job Neil, you’re a true master of everything.
The design is exactly the kind of bonkers idea that Ben from Crimson would come up with himself. You nailed it! 🤘
Oh my gosh, what a wonderful job, such dedication, it looks stunning, I am glad that I am not up against it.
I was also mightily impressed with your hot gun solution, I would not be surprised if that aswell as using the plasticine becomes the standard. You might have inadvertently affected the ongoing cost of pitch if they are to compete. 👏
Best of luck 🤞
Like deployed 👍
I expected you to come up with something quick qnd easy! Great work.
You're not too shabby with a camera too!
@ᴛᴇxᴛ ᴍᴇ ᴏɴ ᴛᴇʟᴇɢʀᴀᴍ @ᴏꜰꜰɪᴄɪᴀʟᴘᴀꜱᴋᴍᴀᴋᴇꜱ piss off!
Beautiful work on that guitar build Neil! I wish that I knew how to play because I would definitely have put in a bid on that guitar! 👍👍🎸🎸
