    Husband and I were driving down the road last week and I spotted a person that was a trigger for me in my trauma. I didn't know the man, but it took me back into a memory. My husband continued talking and I could hear his voice, but I was paralized, time stopped, and I got tunnel vision, I was totally engulfed in the memory. All senses are involved when having these flashbacks. I snapped out because he noticed my stupor and asked if I was listening. Now I know and realize why things like that happen. Instead of supressing the memory, I acknowledge my pain, I talk about it and try to find ways to compensate and calm down. Before, I wasn't aware of the process and how to deal with the memories and traumas. The first step is to have self awareness. Your videos have helped me a lot to recognize my struggles and work in areas I have to improve on. Learning techniques to work out emotions is the best to move forward.

    I don’t have any friends, not because I am not friendly because I am very friendly but I don’t trust people so I have pulled away… my flash backs are mostly not understandable. But they don’t last very long. They are intense but short. One time I had some words with this lady and she decided to hug me, I had a complete breakdown and begged her to let go I kept saying please let me go I was in bed for 2 weeks after I just cried and cried. I couldn’t get over the humiliation of my breakdown…. I am very careful now to not let myself fall into this ever again.

    I'm here because I was sitting at the train and got a flashback from a song I hadn't heard in like 5 years and I checked the thumbnail and the album had the same cover that I had on a shirt back when the traumatic event happened. I had this sudden rush of adrenaline and felt like lashing out and defending myself, but my body felt small and weak and I started crying. This video and reading comments calmed me down a little

    I just wanted to post here. I experienced sexual assault and physical abuse by my ex. He used to scream at me, throw things around, throw things near me and then finally threw an umbrella at me hitting me on my side. Literally on Tuesday a man literally threw a scanner at a pallet out of nowhere and he was near where I was working. It shook me so bad. I couldn't focus and I was experiencing and having flashbacks to that moment with my ex doing that shit to me. I just have been a really hard time with focusing and doing my work. I feel exhausting, staying up, feeling unsafe and more. Thank you for making this video.

    I’ve been struggling with nightmares and flashbacks. It started about two years ago and has increased in the last year.

    • @DocSnipes
      @DocSnipes  3 месяца назад

      Thank you for sharing what you’ve been going through. Nightmares and flashbacks can be incredibly distressing, and it’s understandable that they would take a toll, especially as they’ve increased over time. These experiences are often tied to unresolved trauma or stress, and while they can feel overwhelming, it's important to remember that healing is possible.
      If you haven’t already, it might be helpful to explore grounding techniques or other trauma-focused therapies to help manage these intense experiences. Approaches like focusing on your breath, using your senses to stay present, or connecting with a trusted therapist can all be valuable in reducing the frequency and intensity of flashbacks and nightmares.
      Do you notice if there are specific triggers that seem to make them worse? Identifying those could be a helpful first step in gaining more control over them. I’m really sorry you’re going through this, but you don’t have to do it alone. Thank you again for sharing, and I’m here to support you however I can.

    i don't sleep. i'm 61. i've never slept more than 2 hours at a time - since childhood. i was in therapy for 25 yrs with a really excellent doctor for CPTSD, DID etc He died last year. I'm trying to figure out how i manage on my own, i do fairly well -but there is no stopping a flashback -and i'm bound to have at least one a day. I would love to get some sleep. The safety plan is excellent - i'm very fortunate to have my husband for that -because going t o a doctor gets more than interesting. Something i want to say here is that not everyone can tell themselves where they are when they are having a flashback., if you dissociate that heavily-you don't have the ability to say, 'i'm this old, and i'm here in my home . . .etc

    Question concerning flashbacks: is it possible to flashback to times when you dissociated instead of the triggering or traumatic event? I have memories of “tuning out”, shutting down, my world going grey during certain events but can’t recall the actual trauma. Or are characteristics of dissociation such that you wouldn’t remember going into that state? Thank you so much for your videos. I always learn so much.

    • @DocSnipes

      Thank you for sharing your experience-it takes a lot of courage to open up about something so difficult. Experiencing trauma for such a long time, starting at such a young age, can leave deep emotional scars, especially when you’ve never had the opportunity to feel safe or truly happy. I want to acknowledge how incredibly strong you are for enduring so much and for seeking out resources like this video to begin your healing journey.
      Feeling safe-both physically and emotionally-is a fundamental need, and rebuilding that sense of safety is a crucial step toward healing. It can feel overwhelming at first, but working with a trauma-informed therapist who understands how to help you reconnect with that sense of safety and begin to process the pain can be life-changing. You deserve to experience happiness, security, and peace.
      If you found this video helpful, please consider sharing it-it might help others who are also struggling with long-term trauma to feel less alone and more hopeful.
      Are there small things you’ve found that help you feel even a little bit calmer or grounded? Starting with those moments can create a foundation for healing and growth over time. You’re not alone in this, and healing is possible.

    Things are deeper than my comment, but just had a nasty argument with my child's mother, it triggered so many different flashbacks, I'm sick to my stomach, chills, emotional and very lost in my mind, idk anymore is my ADD making things worse - a recent 2021 work "accident" I have never felt things so real, even an event from 3rd grade is vivid. Both are similar though, so I made that connection. It's getting crazy the deeper I go how unreal my life was. I do have a psych don't worry.

    After I bad decision, I left the safe and familiar home and area I lived in for 25 years. This was followed by a series of traumas, all related to losing homes and a sense of safety... I was evacuated from my new home in the middle of the night and lost it to a forest fire, my father died and my childhood home was sold, etc. Now I am completely alone, feel constantly unsafe and have become ill and nearly bedridden.
    I constantly have “flashback” images of the safe home and city I used to live in. I also dream of being there nearly every night. It feels tortuous because it’s something I cannot go back to. Are these considered flashbacks, if they’re not of a traumatic place, but of a safe place? It feels like torture to remember what it feels like to be safe and be reminded that I am no longer there. And of the bad decision it was to leave. I have never heard of this before and my mental state is getting worse. Thank you.

      Maybe not textbook flashback.... but, something you have to address and learn to cope with / move on.... Or maybe work out a way to move back to that area if you are much happier there? Maybe similar house in the same neighborhood? Similar town. // Also, we all have times and places we would like to go back to, if we could time travel. I just tell you that to also normalize how you are feeling, not lessen it. Thanks for watching. Wishing you peace, health, and happiness.

    Exposing doesn't work with new trauma, and the old trauma comes back. 😢

    • @DocSnipes
      @DocSnipes  4 месяца назад

      When it comes to trauma, exposure therapy can be effective, but it's important to understand that it isn't a one-size-fits-all approach. For new trauma, exposure therapy needs to be carefully managed to avoid retraumatization. If old trauma resurfaces, it might indicate that the underlying issues weren't fully addressed or that additional support is needed. It's essential to work with a trained professional who can guide the process safely, integrating methods that address both old and new traumas in a way that supports healing without overwhelming the individual.
