How to remove a broken cross pin bolt in a GM differential

  • I was servicing the differential in my 2001 Astro van and broke the cross pin bolt off inside! OH NO! how can I possibly remove it!!!??? Here's how!

      I learned by necessity! I broke the pin and did some research to find a solution. So it was just a matter of the circumstances. I believe my son in law (master auto technician) is who told me about the extraction kits.

    Simple and easy are two different things for sure .
    Thanks for the video, this happened to me today on a truck that is 30 miles in the middle of nowhere and I had to leave it this just made my day a helluva lot better !!

    You think they would use a better bolt.

      The bolt has a long unthreaded part that slips into the big pin and it broke at the point where the threads end. So I believe the pin fatigues and breaks there from flexing.
