Out of the 32 years I’ve been a Clemson fan, this was by far the best game I have ever been to. Never have I heard Death Valley that loud before, or since. Of course there’s been big games and we have gotten loud before, but this was different. The hype surrounding Lamar Jackson was HUGE. And the hype surrounding this game was even bigger. Promoted as the greatest QB battle of all time, and it absolutely lived up to the hype.
Another reason it was so loud, is because Clemson being in the spotlight was kinda new to us. Yeah we made it to the Natty the year before and got a lot of respect only losing to Bama by 5 (40-45), but the pressure was on that season in 2016 to make it back there. So A LOT was riding on this game. Because since Louisville is in the same division as Clemson, whoever won this game was very likely to make it to the ACC Championship Game. And I think if Louisville won out after losing to us, they could have possibly made it to the playoffs. But after this game, their entire team changed. Not to sound arrogant, but I truly believe that Clemson humbled them. Not only the team, but that environment. Like I said, that was THE loudest game I’ve ever been to period. Afterwards it felt like I had just been in the front row of a concert for 4 hours.
Anyway, this game was epic. And the fact that this Clemson team went on to win the National Championship that year just shows you not only how talented they were, but also shows just how good Louisville was that year. I firmly believe that if Louisville had won this game, they would have at least made it to the playoffs undefeated, and maybe even won it all. I mean, their QB Lamar Jackson won the heisman that season! So Clemson won the Natty, and Louisville won the Heisman in THIS season.
Anyway, if there was ANY game in Clemson history I was glad I was there, it’s without a doubt this one.
As the saying goes… you just had to be there.

This and the Notre Dame hurricane game in Death Valley the previous season in 2015 were the two best games I have ever been to, without a doubt, out of the dozens I have been to.

Such a Great game, two simlar QBs in a shootout. On November 17th 2019; Lamar Jackson Ravens played the Deshaun Watson Texans. Lamar took that game one 41-7. Could become a fun rivalry? No, Watson is doomed by bad roster management, no draft picks or cap space.

I don’t know what Quick was doing on that last first down attempt. He basically spun out of bounds without even seeing where the marker was and ended up a yard short. If he dives to the right of the tackler, he probably gets it pretty easily.

He's never going to be that prototypical QB. But he'll win a lot of games.
