    Thanks to all for visiting my channel and watching how I refinished this small console table. Please tell me how you feel about the oil and wax finish I applied in lieu of a poly or shellac. I discovered that this table may have belonged to my great grandparents and was passed on to my parents in 1970 so it is much older than I had originally thought. If you feel like watching another furniture project of mine, here is a video of me repairing and restoring an old rocking chair ruclips.net/video/tgMWwZiIISM/видео.html. See you in the next one!

      That's so cool. That table could fit just about anywhere in a home. What a family treasure.
      I don't know enough to comment about the oil and wax, but I love how it looks and the fact that it's protected.

      I have a tale like this and you made the one you found look spectacular. I wondered why you didn't use stripper and rather scraped off the varnish, though, plus, while the fninsh looks fantastic, some people who don't want plants or their guests wrecking their furniture with water stains may prefer a waterproof finish.

    • @Restorology
      @Restorology  7 месяцев назад +1

      @@mizvitko8109 Thanks! I do not like using stripper and the old varnish on this just flaked off with a scraper. Much easier. I used a wax finish because I like the look and feel of it. It is not as sturdy as a urethane or lacquer but there will be no plants on this and no guests will be using it to hold drinks!!

      How cool that this has passed down from your great grandparents! I seem to recall seeing a similar table that was called a "pie crust table" due to the fluted edge of the table.
      Whatever it's called, it's beautiful! ❤

    You did that table justice. I can't stand dark stain on wood that can stand on its own, like this piece does.

    • @Restorology
      @Restorology  Год назад +2

      Thank you! Dark stain doesn't do it for me either in most cases. This ended up matching another piece in my house perfectly without me planning that so it worked out well.

    I just finished watching a restoration video on another channel where every step was explained in detail. I loved it and subscribed.
    Now I watched this video where not a word was spoken. I loved it equally as much...which is how I ended up subscribed to dozens of channels like this.
    I just love watching old furniture being honored and treated with love and respect. It's beautiful and seems much happier now. 😉

      @Restorology Hey, thanks for the reply! It's called "Restoration Endeavors". My two top favorite channels of all time are "Mid-century Modern" (You'll love Barry!!!) and "Modern Makeovers" (his editing style is crazy good). I also like "Transcend Furniture Gallery".
      I'd love to hear what you think of them. I also watch a lot of channels where old things are fixed and restored, which is really cool too. I meant to say I subscribed to your channel. 🙂

    • @Restorology
      @Restorology  Год назад +2

      @@VioletJoy @RestorationEndeavours is fave of mine as well. In my opinion, his narration sets his channel apart from the rest of us. I've tried narrating but I do NOT like the sound of my voice on camera. I have not seen the other channels you mentioned but will check them out this week. I am always looking for good content to binge! If you like commentary about what is being worked on, try @flippingdrawers.

      Thanks for the great comment! I am very happy that you enjoyed the video. I have seen a product called Chair Doctor Glue that is touted to swell the wood and freeze it in place therefore assuring tightened joints. I have not used it. I typically use a two-part epoxy glue when dealing with joints that are loose and have space between the wood pieces. I do not like using epoxy in general but it has advantages in some cases where wood glue may not be the best solution. If you use the Chair Doctor Glue please come back and share your results. Good luck!!

    As good as the project looks, I would have added a back edge vertical detail to cover that black swath along that wall edge. Also to make it your own.

    you did an excellent job! but why oh why stain a beautiful natural colour and grain of the wood? I prefer natural colour

    • @Restorology
      @Restorology  Год назад

      Hi. I prefer a natural tone as well but it would have been out of place in my home. The light color I added to this piece better fits with the hues of the other furniture I have in my home. Thanks for the feedback!

    Why not use wood putty to fix the damage area at 2:30?

    • @Restorology
      @Restorology  Год назад +1

      This was a pretty big gouge in the wood. I wasn't confident that I could make the repair blend in well if I used putty. Also, being on the edge, I felt that putty might not mold well enough to create a sharp edge. Thanks for asking!
