  • Clara Bow (1905-1965)
    F. Scott Fitzgerald said of her, "This girl was the real thing. Someone to stir every pulse in the nation."
A film chronicling the life of one of my top favorite actresses of all time, the resilient and legendary It girl herself, Clara Bow. A woman with a stark and haunting background growing up dirt poor in the slums of Brooklyn, Clara lived through astronomical traumas and overcame incredible odds to become one of the most iconic and influential women in history.
Fun fact: In the last years of their lives, Clara Bow and Marilyn Monroe were pen pals! 💝

The fact that she acknowledged Marilyn Monroe made me cry. I wish her a Marilyn Monroe would have become friends. They suffered a childhood most will never understand, and they both were shaped into images that were not who they truly were. RIP Clara and Marilyn

When they describe seeing the flapper dancing and laughing, saying there is tragedy underneath. This was most definitely Clara.

I am so emotional after watching this - that she went through such unbelievable hell as a child by both parents - and also saying she only had one friend the young boy who died so horribly in her arms - and then the courage and bravery it would have taken being so alone and so young in the world. And all the time she was constantly described as being so generous and kind and down to earth - just a beautiful person inside. And then being betrayed by the “best” friend and then the slanderous gossip about her character. I just wanted so much for her to have a happy life : but I think if she was subjected to electro-shock “therapy” for a year at that place. I think they killed not only her beautiful mind but her real “ essence” as well. It’s like the son said in those old silent movies it was the real her again... so so sad.

If they had a desire to come up with a new 'It' girl and we had today's actresses...and someone threw in Clara's face, she'd still win.

Leonard Maltin expresses my feelings exactly. Whatever supposed difficulties she had with the talkies were vanquished by the time of her comeback performances.

Thank you for uploading! I’ve been in a Clara Bow rabbit hole because of Taylor Swift’s new song. This was a very interesting documentary. She seemed like such a fascinating and lovely person. I’m glad that she got to live the rest of her life on her terms after everything she went through 🙏🏻
If anyone else is interested in Clara, I highly recommend the article she wrote called, “My Life Story.” Don’t read it if you are feeling sad though. It is a 3 part story of her life until that point in her own words. I believe she was 23 when it was published. She was clearly so brave and ahead of her time. It is authentic and moving. It is terrible to think of how harshly she was judged after it. I’m sure it spoke to many people back then and let them know that they weren’t alone in adversity. God bless her. ❤

Throughout this entire documentary, and including, all the comments here, NOT ONE PERSON brought up, one of the most important trivia's, of Clara's existence. Whether, we want to or not, and even if you never seen ONE, of her films, we've known her, our whole entire life, no matter what age, we might be!!! But, only in animated form: BETTY BOOP❤!!!! Yes people, Betty Boop was created, from the personification, of Clara Bow!!! Betty Boop IS, Clara😁👍…………
