Jean Harlow was ahead of everyone. While some companies did mould their actresses and actors to be "seen this way __" She did not allow herself to be changed for anyone. Her kindness, her manners, her charisma, and her uniqueness is what attracted her fans and new audiences even today! To hear that MGM and other companies went silent for some time. MGM closed its doors for a while to mourn and remember Jean means a lot. Nowadays most film companies hear one of their stars has died and instead of mourning they go into a PR crisis = damage control. I have seen at least three of her movies and I was sad when through my research I learned she died so young. I hope she is resting in peace being among the stars.

I always think about what it would have been if she had lived longer. Imagine her living to be 90 years old, doing 100+ films, seeing her on screen going through decades, watching her interviews, having daughters and sons growing up. It would have been amazing. Unfortunately, she was gone too soon. If I could go back in time, she would be a person I'd like to save somehow, as weird as that sounds, but I do think of it often. I discovered Jean's films about 12 years ago and I still enjoy them, just wish we had more..

‘’Red Headed Woman’’ is borderline pornography; astonishing even today. Jean Harlow was not only a beautiful woman, but a gifted actress. A great comedienne. Just look her in "Libeled lady " or before in the time in the scene with Marie Dressler in "Dinner at eight". A tragedy she died young because she had a great future.
A wonderful actress. Among her best films were "Dinner at Eight" and even more so, "Bombshell", in which she expressed her natural warmth, sensitivity, and sense of humor. This film also had a grain of truth in how she was treated by the studio and by her dominating mother in real life. After watching these films, one feels the terrible tragedy of her early death - which was nearly unbearable for her beloved William Powell.
I can't help but think all the mental stress she suffered (never mentioned) in a very compressed amount of time took a terrible physical toll on her young body coupled with a demanding career her system permanently compromised by scarlet fever and her body was simply unable to physically fight off any serious illness, even if she had access to appropriate medication.
Great observation! I think that also contributed to it considering her poor health she had genetically. She was also drinking heavily which weakened her immune system. She was just feeling like a lost outsider who was making big money for a totalitarian state.

Those are perfect choices! Red-headed woman is my favorite of hers! the movie you asking for is Hold your man another great one! Also Bombshell and Libelled Lady are great movies! Have fun watching them!
"Hold Your Man." I would say start at the very beginning, "Double Whoopee" in which she had a bit, and attracted a lot of attention, then "The Saturday Night Kid," although it may not be available. From what I've seen in the news reports that she was very sick for a long time before she died she was doing movies then why in the world wasn't she having to see a doctor for a physical exam why didn't they find it I don't think there was any treatments but from what I heard she didn't even know how thick she was maybe they didn't do exams in those days to be insured for the movie what a shame

God bless you
So sad She dies so young.. only 26 years old because of kidney failure ,imagine
She could be great actress and lives long life with her boyfriend ,maybe have family ,children, today she could be treated
I like the music in the beginning and the end.
Jean Harlow😷😍😊👍👏👏🌹
Jean Harlow and I are birthday twins. I’d love to see more of her work. Which film of hers should I start at? I’m inclined to start with Personal Property (1937) or Red-Headed Woman (1932), WDYT?
Also what film is that at 37:14?
Those are perfect choices! Red-headed woman is my favorite of hers! the movie you asking for is Hold your man another great one! Also Bombshell and Libelled Lady are great movies! Have fun watching them!
"Hold Your Man." I would say start at the very beginning, "Double Whoopee" in which she had a bit, and attracted a lot of attention, then "The Saturday Night Kid," although it may not be available. (I've never seen it.) Find a chronology from beginning to end so you'll see how she grew as an actress, and did she ever!
Personally, I never heard of her, Way before my time & I never liked/watched TV before, But she sure put the Glam Into Glamourus WoW A Pure Beautiful Girley Girl💯
Old Hollywood long ago 🦋🦋🦋
Poor, Jean.💔🙏😢🥀🥀🥀
What's missing here , is that Jean's mother tried out for film , without success . She promoted her daughter , in hopes for that success .
Don't forget M G M....young talent on a rise to stardom directed by MGM.
Sometimes the brightest stars only shine for a little while.
Marylin was jeans replacement but in a inspirational and sweet way
If I ever have a daughter I will name her Harlean Bunny
At 26:29 there's a leap in the story, it's a shame because I believe the part where she falls for William Powell is missing ;-(
Jean Harlow reminds me of Sugar Kane (Marilyn Monroe’s character from some like it hot) 9:00 I can see where they got the influence from omgg.🙀
😊❤️

Oh she is the woman whom Marilyn Monroe idolized so much, sad they had they same tragic fate 🥺
They didn't share" the same tragic fate".. Harlow died of kidney failure in her early twenties.. Monroe had severe mental problems and died by her own hand from a drug overdose.. Huge difference..
Is it not possible to find commentators who don't say "sort of" every second sentence?
She was 1 of the Kind she would of been a Great Actress she was funny 😄 and 2 young to have died RIP 🙏🕊YOU ARE WITH THE ANGELS You would of been a Star 🌟 ❤💖🌹
Jean was the face of the 30's....Everyone emulated her "look".
Watching Jean Harlow's performances, she would certainly be chosen to play the role of Scarlett O'Hara, in the film '...Gone With the Wind'.
In addition, She had already acted with Clark Gable in six films. Jean Harlow, was vibrant. A strong voice. As it should be for the character Scarlett.
And she knew how to make a humor, sarcastic, like no other. She was adorable, beautiful and attractive.
Jean Harlow... She Passed Away, So Young and Suddenly.
(You can search) Her, in the last days of her life, her last photos. She had the book in her arms, '...Gone With the Wind'. And as I said, she would be chosen as an actress for the role of Scarlett O'Hara, she was the favorite. However, she passed away.
Everything she went through, she suffered a lot with her kidney problem, without knowing it. She suffered a lot, really. However, she lived intensely, and always with a wonderful smile, on her face.
Rest In Peace,
Jean Harlow...!!!
🌹😞🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻😞🌹
So this is Marilyn Monroe's favorite actress
She supported her stage mother and no-goodnik stepfather all her life.
I loved her soooooo gorgeousness to u baby!
No mention of Platinum Blonde 1931 ?
I don't see how you can make a documentary about Jean Harlow and not even mention Dinner At Eight (1933), a longtime favourite and her ultimate floozy role opposite Wallace Beery and, of course, her final scene with Marie Dressler.
She was a cute baby
One of the Queens from MGM studios. But this one was "Blonde"!!❤
So sad.
- They don't make 'em like Jean Harlow anymore.
