The Chronicles of Narnia are largely considered one of the best works of fantasy fiction ever written, akin to LotR. The movies themselves weren't quite as successful (partly because of their more child-oriented nature, partly for the lower budget to begin with), but are still ever present on the popular consciousness decades after first being released. That doesn't quite qualify as "underrated"
I was a Character and Creature animator on the first Narnia film, I have Master Replicas version of Peter's sword and the White Witches' Wand but we had a few original props that floated around the office for modelers to use as reference and we were always searching for who had what to see them in person.
Hi Adam, designing that Centaur sword was one of my first jobs at Weta ! Thanks for the wonderful trip down memory lane and very happy its found its way to such an awesome owner :)
Thanks for talking about these, Adam. Narnia is severely underrated. The later films could've been better, but the amount of work and detail put into them is still astounding!
I'm guessing that stunt sword is also from Prince Caspian. The armor and weapons the villains used in that movie had a Spanish Conquistador aesthetic, and that's the same feeling I get from that first sword.
If you do another Practical vs CG with Corridor, It would be great to take into consideration the details in the prop! (eg. miniature vs CG exploding space ship?)
the big thing I always love about weta is their high production value and attention to detail. they put so much love into whatever they're working on. Also I think I remember from a video that they used injection casting for their stunt weapons
Narnia films was always a good watch when I was a kid. The action scenes were really good for a disney kids movie. And great VFX as well, the animals hold up, good landscapes, and great large army's. Peter armor too is so badass. Also James Cosmo plays freaking Santa clause(and Jeor Mormont in GoT) and he gives Peter a sword and shield as a present.
I'm no expert but I think the quoted weight is about right for those swords, maybe even on the heavy side. Real swords aren't as heavy as a lot of people think, for all the same reasons. I wouldn't put it past WETA to properly weight and balance their stunt swords. They might have lighter rubber ones for falls and things so that they don't injury the actors.
Yeah in Witcher 3 the guards are always asking if you want to choke on 3 pounds of steel, 3-4 pounds is about right for a two-handed sword which both of these appear to be (though the first one looks like it's maybe meant as a one-hander for a really big person).
I only have 3. The Blade sword, of course, then the Highlander, Ramirez katana, then a real, high end, hand forged katana. Really wanted the Kurgan sword, but i want it to be functional spring action, so yeah. that won't happen. I know, i know, the Blade sword isn't working either, but that would be a serious hazard lol
I have to say Peter’s sword is my favorite. 😄I love the hilt and the writing on the sides. My second favorite sword is Repicheep’s his hilt is a mouse.😄
I dare say this but! I wouldn't mind seeing a newer rendition of Narnia on the big screen however, maybe not with the current writers and directors in hollywood right now because wow, they are turning out some splats!
He's going to turn them into a chair that will be extremely significant for years before being mostly forgotten and then burned as a symbolic gesture by someone's idiot pet lizard.
Are you planning a heist? 😁 Right after mentioning the 150, he went on to say 30 of them are special, and 12 _really_ special ones are in his office at home, while the rest are in the cave participating in a "revolving gallery". I hope you get a lenient judge at sentencing. 😛
I love the weathering and these swords are really beautiful, but didn't the soldiers back in the (legendary) day have sergeant-majors who encouraged their men to polish everything, as so many more recent soldiers and seamen were constantly being exhorted to do. Patrick O'Brian describes how the seamen would polish Commander/Captain/Admiral Aubrey's prize plate down to tin foil over the years, and we have all seen the 'martinet' tendency in movies for the military to polish stuff till it gleams - often rendering it ineffective as lethal weaponry? So despite it's appeal, I wonder if the 'medieval' mind and hence care for their armour, was any different? Perhaps Terry English could tell us? (Incidentally why hasn't he been knighted?)
Yes that is true! Medieval people took very good care of their personal arms. One of the main occupations of a squire in training was to clean and fix his master's arms and armour. Militia were expected to have clean and serviceable armour at all times. Some people preferred other methods such as oil or tin painting over metal, or cloth covers to protect from rust. So yes.
Gosh if you learn about the way they do their castings and you can show off a bit of how their process goes for objects like these it would be AWESOME! And you could probably do it on the huge real sword you made!
Are you trying out your ruler tattoo on your right arm? i noticed in obe of your recent videos that you had the ruler tattoo on your right arm, but it was a temporary tattoo (a short closeup showed it was falling off in small flakes). Now I notice you have it again (couldnt see any peeling though) on your right arm. -edit: just checked your merch store and see you have a temporary tattoo ruler for sale. So just product placement 😊.
Hi Adam, long time watcher first time commenting. Have you the replica swords that the Brit Tod Cutler makes. He has a RUclips channel called Tod's Workshop. The stuff he makes is amazing.
Adam if you would like to learn how to fights with swords look into Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA). Being that the blade is aluminum I doubt that it is 3 lbs. Real swords typically weight about that and can move just as dextrously.
Your laptop was precariously on the edge of the table in aliens motion tracker build. I was cringing at every table shake. 😬 . A workshop laptop holder stand thing might be a nice one day build.
Thing 1 and 2 are not going to enjoy Adam passing away . They have to figure out what to do with dads stuff . Hey Adam have you started your legacy plan ? Or are you just going to let the boys auction it all off ??
funniest thing I've ever seen....MY friend demonstrated how much 'give' was in his new Spear he'd just bought by bending it across his knee, it snapped in half instantly :| You bending these just makes me feel like they're gonna snap on you, dont please!
Dear Adam, As a public service announcement, could you please do a tested edition on the effects of an AR-15 Rifle's 45 bullets per minute on a child's body up to and including decapitation? It is obviously a ghastly and incomprehensible ask on my part, that you do this but right now we live in ghastly times, where people put money ahead of a child's life. However, if you can produce an honest non-sensational, graphic, vivid representation that people such as the Lincoln Group could put on the media it might be possible to get your country to have an overnight response on gun control, such as we had here in Australia. There are many reasons not to do this, but there is also a history in your country of political ads that swung public opinion .. in a good way thank you Aidan Margarson

I absolutely love hearing adam talk about his collection!
using this to get my mind off the fascist turn our countries corrupt Supreme Court is making. 😑
Pretty damn cool I would love to see some more of the collection sir!!!
The Chronicles of Narnia is criminally underrated. This channel is a good example for why props are important.
Weta can make a bad movie LOOK great with its props.
@Kalina Ann but barely nobody mentions it as one of the better fantasy films. It's either Lord Of The Rings or any other fantasy series.

do you have references and photos of lucy's cordial vial and dagger along with the belt?

Thanks for talking about these, Adam. Narnia is severely underrated. The later films could've been better, but the amount of work and detail put into them is still astounding!
The detail Weta puts into their work is inspiring. I just wish we saw more practical effects and models in film.
I'm guessing that stunt sword is also from Prince Caspian. The armor and weapons the villains used in that movie had a Spanish Conquistador aesthetic, and that's the same feeling I get from that first sword.
we need a video showing all adams swords, i dont care if its 4 hours long
I'll second that!
If you do another Practical vs CG with Corridor, It would be great to take into consideration the details in the prop! (eg. miniature vs CG exploding space ship?)
Even up close, they look authentic. Thanks for sharing. ✌
Long may you be their Steward. Loved this one, as I am a huge fan of Weta. Thank you for sharing your bounty!

Saw the thumbnail and immediately thought: "Hey Adam, what if you made the swords from The Witcher 3 promotional art?" 👀👀
PLEASE ADAM, PLEASE DO AS Magna_Vulpes_XVIII asks!!!!! Please dude!!!!!!!!
That would be awesome

I definitely like those swords as a prop collection but I would definitely forge myself a real version of the swords.
The Chronic-what-cles of Narnia!

You mentioned having a lot of swords. Something like 150, if I recall correctly. How and where would one store so many swords. I need to know
He's going to turn them into a chair that will be extremely significant for years before being mostly forgotten and then burned as a symbolic gesture by someone's idiot pet lizard.

4:36 Adam: "and *not* break" (crunching sound)
Me thinking: "Do not break. Do not-" (sprong) "It broke!"
RUclips, why did you think I _wouldn't_ want to see this? Why did I have to go looking for it!?
Business idea here: Weta should sell LOTR sword with that quality and treatment. Cheaper than a steel sword, just as good looking and functional.
I was thinking the same thing!
I loved the sword from Geek Chic that you modified. I’m sorry I missed the opportunity to obtain one.
Gosh if you learn about the way they do their castings and you can show off a bit of how their process goes for objects like these it would be AWESOME! And you could probably do it on the huge real sword you made!
Wait I think those are telmarans swords from Prince Caspian
I see you're wearing you Seiko pepsi Adam! would be nice to see a follow up video on your watches!
The second one is essentially a thinner ground LARP sword

now you need Amleth's sword from The Northman :)
My most treasure sword is a Damascus Ramirez katana form the Original " HIGHLANDER"
Hey I loved your video keep up the good work 👏
My favorite movie sword is the katana that Ramirez gave to MacLeod in Highlander. What is your favorite?
Going by the style of both blades I'd wager both are from Prince Caspian.
Ooooh swords! I own 2 swords
Hi Adam, long time watcher first time commenting. Have you the replica swords that the Brit Tod Cutler makes. He has a RUclips channel called Tod's Workshop. The stuff he makes is amazing.
I really want to get a narnian sword. Just haven't found what I'm looking for.
For the love of God can Disney please make more Narnia films
Dose Weta workshop have tours or are they a closed shop.
It would be awsome if you could get high king peters sword or if you could find The medoran chronicles Alexandra Jennings's sword

What mic is Adam using on his chest? Is it the only source of audio (his voice) in the video?
Is that bundaberg ginger beer?
Any Narnia nerds know what movies the swords were form?

My son wants this!! LOL I think it is not in his price range.
Its a habit hahahaha😅 love it!
My man drinks Bundaberg.
You forgot your telmarine sword you just did a video on ! Lol
Hey Adam what say you to a challenge
Did you get a second permanent tattoo of the ruler?
Nvm I saw the film clap board was 5/12 so you must of filmed this near the same time as the temporary tattoo.
What is that thing climbing up his shirt?
