Thanks for watching!

Watching Adam remove the chain drilled piece from the slot reminded me of an OLD aircraft industry joke. A company was producing a new fighter and were testing the prototype. Everything went well until the test pilot tried to pull it out of a steep dive, when the wings ripped off and the airplane crashed. They did an investigation and reinforced the areas that failed, but the same thing happened on the test flight of the next plane. Wash, rinse, repeat 3 more times. Finally, and in desperation, the engineers asked for help in solving the problem. The company janitor, who had been present for the entire episode, offered the only new idea. He told them that they had to drill a row of small holes all the way around the wing where it attached to the airplane. Desperate for anything to work, they did so and to the amazement of everyone it worked! The design was approved and the company got the contract to produce hundreds of units. In appreciation of his contribution, the company gave the janitor an award and a huge bonus, presented at a lavish dinner party with him as guest of honor. On the podium, the president of the company asked him how he came up with his brilliant design insight. His response? "It's simple really, nothing, not even toilet paper will tear on the perforated lines."
That’s a really good one; the setup pays off and then some.
Sometimes I forget that Adam is like much younger than Jamie and is actually only a few years older than Tory, Grant and Kari. I don't know why but stuff like this reminds me that he's younger than I think he is.
Grant was my idol, RIP 😔
Rip Grant, gone to soon
This build was so great! I was not convinced by that pommel at first, but man does it look good with the patina. Also, here's the jeweler's secret weapon for trimming thin sheet metal: Joyce Chen kitchen shears. They cut as well as (or better than) tin snips, and you can get really great detail because they're small. Best utility shears for any shop!
and to take that idea a step further:
Get a pair of Electricians Scissors.
Everybody should have one they cut sheet metal as easy as Cu wire.
To add a little more a silversmith... I would have made it the other way around... fashion the piece that sits against the cross piece first (there's your buck!). Cut the hole using the reference of the crosspiece hole and then fashion and fix the collar... Should give a much neater sit and no artifacts!
And just yesterday I was thinking just how the leather seam looked, thanks as always for letting us into your shop and making us a bit more knowledgeable.
The "Savage Assassin" Sword looks amazing.
Looks great man! It’s exciting when you make something that then looks like someone who knows what they’re doing made it.
An awesome sheath worn on the back would look good with that sword.
That little drum solo while you thought about it reminded me of cooking food in Breath if the Wild, only your sword wasn't done when you stopped. XD
I’m glad I’m not the only one that has to drum out a ska punk rhythm with whatever supplies I am currently using before I can get to work. *smacks #2 file against the desk to the beat of “rascal king”*
This is an awesome project and watching Adam use his own techniques motivates me, also reminds me of which my next tool purchases will be. I love this shop of his!
Adam, I have a fencing rapier whose handle I replaced. The stock handle was balsa wood which put the balance way too far forward. I secured a good pommel nut and when that wasn't enough, I decided to replace the handle with something more substantial, Jatoba. The hard part was boring the hole perfectly straight as I don't have a shop. I had a friend at the university machine shop who was more than willng to take on the job for a coffee or two. The result was perfect until I got the handle home and discovered that the tang had been rough-cut with a hand hacksaw I think. I spent hours with a tiny rat-tail file enlarging and changing the profile of that perfect bore. Oh well.
Jatoba is a beautiful tree, I already had the pleasure of planting one.
Your technique with drilling all the holes is called chain drilling, i've used it for everything from small stuff like youre doing to making stainless disc brake rotors to bellhousing flanges for a gearbox in 1/2 inch steel plate.
Respect for all 🙏🏾 and have a wonderful life
I love the way the audio is cut during the sped up sections in this video
That turned out much better than what i started out thinking how i would build it in my head.. kudos 👏🏼
How better the world would be with more Adam Savages
So you made what they call an heirloom fit. Nice transition fix, Adam 🫶
I’m in the middle of my college New Media capstone project and seeing this title scared the crap out of me! Glad it’s just a sword dressing
I've loved this little sword series
That has to be the cutest little anvil I have ever seen! 😂
oh! that sound design at the first timelapse was great!
The brass really makes it pop and catches the eye. Looks awesome.
Lol love Adam's choice of words to describe the sword.
1:18 - This transition is fuuuuuuuuuuhhhhgly
I need to know if Adam has ever played Dungeons and Dragons. It feels RIGHT up his alley.
Just wanted to put a request for something , you always show movie costumes and amazing space suits, but I'd really like to see the suits from Tron legacy, if any still exist, or are in collections you come across.
The torch gas being on for about 15 seconds at 17:00😂 was wondering how long he would take to notice lol
same :)
Adam its looking great, you should add another cap to the bottom where the leather meets the pommel
If you had made it back then whenever that was it would not be perfect, so it's spot on.
I'm not sure why you need a mini anvil, but I'm all for it.
That looks right grand! Hope you leave it shiny, as it balances well with the bright line around the pommel.
Looking forward to the sheath build!
Eh, you know next time we see it it'll be either being patina'd to match the guard/pommel, or already have been off-camera.
@@sanityormadness I fear so 😄Either way, it's nicely done 👍
Very nice sword, luv the blk coloring of the metal parts! Keep the videos & tips coming!! Til next tyme...keep those cre8ive juices abrewing!!!
2:00 Adorable little anvil has entered the chat-- Wait, 2:03 an even _smaller_ adorable little anvil has entered the chat!
This editing is on point 👍
Can we have a year-in-review video of Adam percussing? All the times he was tapping/banging on stuff, layered/melded into a song, to reflect the part of making which is just thinking through the next step or two... Just an idea...
2:00 those are the CUTEST anvils omg??
To stop losing parts when you use the bench grinder/ polisher put a piece of sheep's skin rug on the floor. The parts hit the wool and stay put, not ricocheting across the hard floor.
But than you have to calculate exactly where the piece will hit the floor.
That might take some time 🤣
thought he was going to mess up the piece at the end pulling at it with pliers ... man, I wish I had his toys.
Noticed his book, thought to myself "Hey I've read that.".
On a katana that bit is called a Fuchi. Not sure if that translates to other swords. Nice looking sword though. I thought the hilt was too long at first, but it is growing on me.
Adam has worn a path on his floor. :)
I'm really liking this build more and more. This is definitely a "want to hold" item.
I've never wanted to be stabbed to death by anything more. Beautiful blade 🥰
3 one day builds in one day? :O
This is turning out awesome 🖖🏿😎🤓😎
Improvised shop drumming helps me get ready for my next project too. 🤜🏼🤛🏼
Noticed the Demon sword in the back at 4:44 and it made me chuckle😂 demon on a stick lol
I cackled at the tiny anvil
Cutest anvil ever!
17:38 I didnt realize the hissing was coming from the video till he turned the torch off lol
im loving this project
Wow! this was awesome. Is that silver solder or some other metal for brazing brass?
I've used the "bajillion holes and nippers" method too many times to count. It may not always be pretty but, dammit, it works.
The He-Man style toss the sword from hand to hand at the end 😅👍 ...But aren't you going to weather the brass similar to the rest of the furniture?
I thought I'd seen you using a coping saw in a previous video. That, or a scroll saw, would have been much easier than drilling all those holes and snipping.
No patina? It looks odd having such a shiny thing on a sword with a heavy patina.
Nice Work Adam! That capstone looks great, as does the entire sword.
Trust you to have the same mini-torch that I have though! Such a versatile torch and so easy to get in places and make joints other torches can not. I did modify the air hole barrel with a second hole though, makes tweaking the flame so much easier!
I wonder if it has any distal taper or if it is just a sharp bar thats the same thickness throughout. Really changes the handling characteristics.
That is very cool. I can't help but think that as an assassin's blade, there should be a secret compartment in the pommel, or maybe in the sheath.
Poison holder. Preferably liquid in a tiny bottle.
No black weathering to the new little piece?
perfect!
The box for this video in my taskbar reads "Adam Savage's Ass..."
That's all.
Seems alright.
wait, wait, wait, Adam has a RadioShack sticker where you wrote RIP and the dates RadioShack ran for? Around 16:50 if anyones curious.
"Less gorgeous than I was hoping but this should work" = Me at last call for twenty years.....
Two minutes in: "That's a cute anvil. Wait... THAT IS A CUTE ANVIL"
I agree. I was thinking, wow that's a small anvil. And then he reaches over and pulls out an even smaller one 🤣
If it's an assassin's blade, you could soak it in movie blood to get the goop into the right places.
super nice
Adam's struggle with glasses: Are bifocals not useful? I ask because I currently have both regular and reading glasses, and am considering bifocals.
'FUCHI' on samurai blasdes < pommel side < what you're calling a 'cap' :-) Love your work !
Those snips bring me back to being 18 and doing HVAC and being left handed 😞
'Ptang!'... Yeah, that's an industry term.
Really wish Mythbusters was back on tv, I miss Adam and Jamie on tv together
Nice.
At the 2:00 mark, was that E1M1 from Doom?
now do one for the pommel end
What butane torch are you using? I'm not a fan of mine at all and that one looks great.
POWER PROBE Micro Torch
@@soundtempleAU awesome, thanks! 🙌
One day, Adam, i will show you how to make nice brass and copper sheet seams. I was already thinking of that when you made the brass watering can. There are a few little tricks wich make a big difference.
Why didn't you just use a dremel with a cutoff blade, instead of the holes and nippers? Sometimes you make things way harder than need be.
What brand and where did you get that little anvil?
Hi, sword man
Looks like Aquiles sword in Troy movie
should do a giveaway with it ;)
You had the rotary tool right there, but used a drill and side cutters to make the hole🙄
Wait.... wouldn't that make it a 1/3rd day build?
A jeweler's saw (or piercing saw) would have been the perfect tool for the cutout slot in your "capstone", Adam. For something as soft as that brass it would have been fast and easy.
Yes, I was surprised not to see one at that point.
Wish i was good at making stuff!
Workin on an Outer Wilds cosplay....and its going...terribly >_
You should have made the butt ring in silver and used a Jewellers saw to cut your hole in the bottom and then you could have scribbed the whole thin with swirls
⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Nice, yet not terribly easy fix. Brass looks shiny, looks like it was meant to be a part of the sword. Interesting.
What happened to the plan/idea to engrave 3 planets in the blade just above the handle?
Extremely disappointed that Adam did not show us how not to use that buck he made. Seeing all the failures is how I feel better about my own process. Also, I have to ask, what is the story behind the swords design? Because up until now you were going with the sweeping aesthetic and for this Capstone you seriously checked out. You could have easily continued the curving design that you used everywhere else but didn't. Is this a failure in your design or is it part of the origin story to your make? To me, the struggle for the artist is always to tell your story and try to make it as universally understandable as possible to the widest audience as possible. As I watch your builds, I always see you struggle with the "Time crunch" prop maker in you and the true artist that is struggling to get out. Art does not keep deadlines. As always, thanks for sharing your process as it is invaluable.
Will you give it a name?
yeah, where is everything?
What is that Play Doh doing there...
Attention editors!!! Censor Adam's swearing (obviously not this one) because the new RUclips policies have become even more draconian in order to rob content creators of their value per video.
Why not just hammer a piece of brass directly around the hilt and then sand out out the inside of the pointy bit of the cross guard till it fits over the new brass bit? Feels like this was made way harder than it needed to be.
I wonder if Adam would work with Jamie again 🤔
A jewelers saw will make that cut much more cleanly
I believe the piece you made in this video is known as a bolster.
2:00 - Look at that adorable little anvil.... OMFG, It has a little baby brother¿! 😱😍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Edit: It might have been easier to make a mold of the handle then pour melted aluminum into it so you had an exact copy that you could use as a buck....
