  • Come with me as we check all the nest boxes and fill our egg basket with beautiful rainbow eggs. This egg rainbow is the culmination of 8 years of breeding chickens specifically for egg color. If you're interested in creating rainbow layers of your own, make sure you watch my video titled "CREATE YOUR OWN RAINBOW EGGS". Thanks for watching y'all!

    Thank you for sharing I love all your videos! May I ask if you cover your Delaware girl with an olive egger roo to get pinkish bloom? What other breeds do you cover with olive egger roo to get pinks and purples?

    Great idea with the doormat bottom in the nesting box. My girls keep scraping the nesting material out of their boxes, so this is a good solution

    Beautiful selection. Daughter is rebuilding her heritage flock this year. Also has 5 dewlap Toulouse and pilgrim adults who had a total of 9 goslings this year. Nothing like farm fresh eggs

    Rainbow Egg Goals! What a beautiful bunch you have. And lovely fluffy geese! Do your geese lay? Do you have ducks that lay or have you ever? I'm loving watching your videos, Leslie!

      Thanks so much! The geese are still young so they aren’t laying yet. They will only lay clutches of eggs seasonally though. These are Sebastopol geese. We’ve never raised ducks. Maybe one day.

    Hello, what is your main breeding rooster's race? If you could only keep 1 or 2 roosters, which breeds or hybrid would it be? Thank you if you end up replying.

    • @THEFOURTEENACRES
      @THEFOURTEENACRES  2 года назад +2

      My number one rooster, hands down, is a good quality Black Copper Marans that hatched from a super dark egg. His egg color genetics will help you create SO many egg colors when crossed with different hens.

    6:38 was it laid by f1 olive egger or which generation?

    • @THEFOURTEENACRES
      @THEFOURTEENACRES  3 года назад

      Yes. Either F1 or F2. Their colors are fading as they get to the end of this laying cycle. So, it’s harder to tell.

    That dark olive egger is a backcross not an f10 or f11 those are Easter eggers crossed with each other a backcross gets you a darker olive looks to be bc1 or bc2 chech out Steve nuemams chart 😊

    • @THEFOURTEENACRES
      @THEFOURTEENACRES  2 года назад

      They are 10th and 11th generation back crosses. I have back crossed them myself for the last 10 years.

    • @littlewillowhomestead113
      @littlewillowhomestead113 2 года назад

      @@THEFOURTEENACRES so you’ve bavkcrossed the same bird for 10 years?

    • @THEFOURTEENACRES
      @THEFOURTEENACRES  2 года назад +1

      @@littlewillowhomestead113 No. Not the same bird. The offspring of each back cross

    • @littlewillowhomestead113
      @littlewillowhomestead113 2 года назад

      @@THEFOURTEENACRES that’s a bc (backcross) not an f10 or f11 (f2 and beyond are the same crosses bred together) check out Steve nuemams chart it will make more sense 😊

    It's pronounced Ma-ran...not Mare-rens...the s at the end of most French words is silent. It doesn't matter if you have 1 Marans or 50 Marans, the s is always silent. ❤
