I wanted that to be my first 3d printer but they were constantly out of stock. I ended up with an Anet A6 instead. The ender 3 wasn't released at that time or I would have that. Glad to hear that aside from a small build volume it's a good little printer! Thanks for the review!
I use this printer as a DM to print minis for all of my games. The print quality is excellent for this. The small print volume is an annoyance for printing larger things like buildings, but these can easily be printed in segments and glued together due to the consistency of quality that this printer has.
I purchased the MP Delta Mini V2 this week and set it up last night. They must have watched your video, as all of your complaints and peeves have been fixed and resolved. Gone are the buttons on the, now the display is a convenient touch screen to navigate. They moved the SD card slot to the front as you suggested. Added a power on/off switch to back, no more unplugging to power off. The best change, improvements to stepper motors make almost silent when operating. I only printed the sample files that came with it, everyone I show them to is amazed at the quality. If you can live with the small build size, I think it is a perfect beginner printer.
You forgot to mention the ability to "print another one" at the end of each print. Not useful when you are doing one-offs, but say you're printing a bunch of PolyPanels (@Make Anything), you don't have to go thru the whole menu again! Just a nice touch on the Monoprice printers.

The mini delta was my first printer and I agree with what you were seeing. I found some diy magnetic build material and was able to cut out three sets for the printer. It now is much easier to remove the prints. Unfortunately the small print volume really held it back so I ended up buying an Ender 3. Now I'm trying to decide what my next step will be, since you can't have just one 3D printer.
thanks for the video. I've been looking at a lot of 3d printers because I fly FPV drones and I need to make my own parts. I also need for my parts to be flexible so the fact that this printer handles TPU pretty well is a definite plus.

Great review Michael. Looks like a very nice little printer, good for a beginner especially if they are limited on space, also great to see they have thermal runnaway enabled
My first 3d printer was a Monoprice Mini, and I found many of the same characteristics that you point out for this one. It was built well, took almost no time to set up, and still prints PLA really well. I did manage to get the WiFi set up and working, but found it to be really slow. It took almost a half hour to transfer an 11.5 MB gcode file over WiFi, when this would've taken less than a minute to do by saving to the micro SD card. I've tried connecting OctoPrint to it, but haven't been able to establish communication: a problem that others report, although there is supposed to be a fix available for it.
Seen it - and as a person who currently does not use one, this is tempting for D&D miniatures which largely do not need the larger print size. Resisted before due to the learning curve of the equipment, calibrating etc etc - Struggling to resist this one
It's a shame the heated bed is so rubbish. Ironically I was initially interested in it because the frame design makes it very easy to modify in to an enclosed chamber for ABS prints.

I'm truly surprised you were able to get accurate results from the printer. During the early runs of this printer there was a significant variance between the model and the output due to inconsistencies in the construction of the unit. The random lock ups during the firmware update were a huge negative as well. I really wanted to enjoy this printer, but I just couldn't for all the negatives you mentioned, plus the ones I observed.
Thanks for the review. I had a lot more problems with this printer. For example the accuracy (x &y 2,5% too low) and the bed leveling with the hot nozzle and wrong bed leveling C offset in the provided cura profile that slowly ruined the buildtak surface. You can get this quiet with stepper dampers, tl smooters and a quiet fan but it is a hassle to do. And buying another power supply unit doesn't solve the problem with the weak bed heating. It seems to be set to this underpowered mode in the firmware that is closed source afaik. So no solution to that issue I guess. But when you can live with the downsides and it is tuned in it prints really well apart from the insufficient cooling. I gave it a 0.2 mm Nozzle and it prints my small and delicate parts like a champ. And oh it is fast! Have a great day! Cheers!
Nice review and good that you also have shown the high noise level. I think there is a market space for a small and very quit printer which is not really covered by many products and also not by this one. This would be useful for putting it on same desk people having their computer. If you have to put it in another room because of noise the size does not matter that much anymore and other features are coming more important.
@@qualandrew201494 Sure thing. I use PLA and PLA+. The nozzle temp is 190 and the bed temp is 50. I usually print at a speed of 40-55, almost always use a brim, and my layer height ranges from 0.15mm(terrain and such) to 0.07mm(characters and creatures). I also use the version of Cura that comes on the SD card. For some reason, updating Cura can cause compatibility issues.
Was it actually $80? I see it for $89 and I'm super tempted, if you received it how was the whole "open box" experience? I love my ender 3, but I think this would make an awesome addition!

I wish they would use a diffrent hotend, they used the same one on the mono price mini and on the fabrikator mini 2. The heat creep gets really annoying after a while...

Wow... you were lucky to get an "accurate" version out of the box. BUT did you test the actual measurements? They usually print about 1.5% on the small size.
I never owned a 3D printer i bought a Mini Delta to try as my first one. I never was about to use it. The only thing i was about to print was the Cat that was on the SD card . I bought a Ender 3 pro. Right off i can use it with out any trouble at all. Everything I tried to print out came out great. I haven't even plugged in the Mini Delta in no more just sets. As a first time user printer the Ender 3 D Pro is number one to me.
Thanks fie the review! I always was tempted to get this printer and might if / when it goes on sale. I have multiple Printers including an Ender 2, Ender 3, Ender 5, CR-10, and A10M. I wanted to get a Delta to mess with and the portability is a plus. Would be good to take to work and make small prints during the shift and then easy enough to move and take back home. The ender 3 I have both and this one is super difficult to set up and has a tiny print bed. The ender 3 requires some assembly but is 1 million times better.
got mine on Monoprice for $129 US, came with a bad power brick which took another 4-5 days to get before i could print. I originally had a problem with PLA staying stuck to the bed but adding a brim to the print eliminated that issue. The bed leveling isn't good. Mine is low in the back and high in the front right. The low is enough where it almost prints in air and will not stick to the bed and the high will actually trigger the bed switches when printing the first few layers but it would still print. I put a glass build plate on it but it seemed like it was heavy enough to activate the bed switches during the leveling process which would stay activated and cause the tool head to back off to the top of the machine where it would just bump away until i unplugged it. Glass build plate is not an option in my case. I have been able to work around the bed leveling issue a bit by minding where i place the print on the platform and i have gotten some really great prints from it. The only other issue is the axis rotation is off, the print faces "forward' in cura but will print facing to the left on the printer. Not a big deal but it does irritate me a bit for some reason. I am using the cura profiles downloaded from the mini delta wiki. (mpminidelta.com/start) accuracy seems to be very good. I printed a mini crossbow and a large articulated Stormtrooper for my son with some parts in black on my ender3 (.1mm) and others in white on the mini delta (.14mm) and the dimensions appeared very close. The parts fit together as expected without any modification needed. However, I haven't tried anything that requires a high level of precision. It is pretty noisy. There was someone selling the OEM boards updated with 2208 drivers for around $50 but doesn't appear he is offering them any more. Overall it is a great little printer for the price. The .14mm resolution is as good or better than my ender 3 at .1mm in much less print time. It beat the Ender on a Benchy print with similar settings by over an hour.
The mainboards with TMC2208 stepper drivers are still available but currently out of stock. Shipment of parts including mainboards is arriving today. It will take a few days to change out the stepper drivers and run print test so hopefully by the end of the week or early next week.

I have a Mini delta but suddenly it stopped printing after I changed the filament. The menu works but the printer doesn't respond to any option. It doesn't print, no SD list is showed, it doesn't preheat, the nozzle and bed show a zero, the hot end assembly doesn't move and the fan either. Any idea what it could be ?...thank you.

Given the small print bed seems like one of its best uses would be for tabletop minis. I am curious how it performs at layer heights in the area of 0.08 with fairly detailed small models.
100mm/s for a flexible on a bowden 0_0 what I haven't bothered going above 15mm/s on my anycubic yet :D tho mine is quiet weird and can't handle more than 45 for anything because the frame shakes so much. tho I did make the brass nuts better so that could be why hmmm
hey, a total noob here. I wanted to get into this hobby and I purchased this printer. The prints that are already loaded onto the SD card (stock) the printer prints beautifully, but any other prints that either I design in blender or download from thingiverse, after splicing the print doesn't stick to the bed (using PLA) and it warps just like I saw in your video. I set the bed temperature at 60 although it never truly gets there. What am I doing wrong? What are the typical causes of this happening? Thanks!!!
I have this printer, sadly other than the initial default gcode file(s) you get with it, ive been unsuccessful in even the software registering the printer and IF i manage it, so many others arise (bed never warms up properly, nozzle cools off and pulls print with itself or even nearly pushes too much into bed plate itself) replaved the psu with no difference and tried different material types as suggested it can use, had it over a year and gutted that never managed to use it! :( any pointers on working software (OS suggestions also) would be greatly appreciated)
Because of the small volume, how well does it work with very tiny nozzles to do some really fine, high detail prints? I am looking for a small printer for doing the small detailed stuff without changing nozzles on my main printer, or waiting for ages on my main printer...
Impressive for the price. What would you recommend to address the insufficient parts cooling for the overhang and the bed heating? Look forward to you upgrades.
@@TeachingTech This was one of the only things holding me back from getting one, initially! I wanted it for the speed when prototyping parts, and for the accuracy for D&D minis, but the lack of cooling concerned me. So far, my only remedy has been to print some clips and attach a computer case fan to the side. It's far from perfect, but it works until something better can be found. Please keep us in the loop!
Great review I have been looking at the deltas for a while not this one but the next one up, in reality compared to a ender 3 proi how much faster would it be for printing say a benchy on the ender and then on the delta, Im looking for more speed, I only use pla or flexi at the moment and I print things to make lasers and so on, I was thinking of using this a delta as my normal printer ans upgrade the hotend, motherboard on the ender to print higher temperature filaments. Never used a 3D printer, I am a noob. I have a business where I source products from other countries. In my business model I push the fact that I source locally handmade products from locals from around the world. I want to include a plastic tag with the coordinates of where products come from so people along with a tag with a description of the city or town it is located. Would a 3D printer like this be able to print a simple tag 3/4” x 2” x 1/4” how long would it take to print an object like that? Is there a printer that would allow 2 colors? So the base in white and the coordinates in another color?
would you say that the bugs reported about the initial set up have been resolved regarding the Gcodes? i've seen vid reviews that mention there was software tinkering that was needed for it to behave properly. did you need to do any of this? or straight plug and play?

Michael Ohana check the mpminidelta wiki. I recommend using version 15.whatever that’s included on the SD as it’s least likely to reset your configuration. You can import your gcode profile from the manufacturer provided cat file which can also be found on the wiki
Hi, I just got my Mini Delta, the first couple of prints were great, im amazed about the quality, buy now the problem, when I was trying to make another copy of the default model (the japanese cat) the printer moves and everything but nothing is printed, I was able to take out the filament (it wasn't stacked) but I get nothing print, and it makes a strange sound while its presumed to be printing ... could you help? thanks!
@Steve White yes it is possible as long as your board has 4988 drivers for X, Y, and Z. I have swapped the stepper drivers on the stock mainboard many times for the Mini Delta. photos.app.goo.gl/qrBWX7LfoyrHNniF8 If your mainboard came with 4985 or 4995 stepper drivers then you can either purchase a mainboard that has TMC2208 drivers already installed but is otherwise a stock board, purchase a stock mainboard that has 4998 stepper drivers and change the drivers to TMC2208 yourself, or purchase an aftermarket board that you can install step-sticks with the driver of your choosing.
Thanks, yea that noise is for sure a deal breaker for me. Otherwise I would already have ordered at least one. I wonder if there is the potential to upgrade this with quieter stepper motors?
Changing the stepper drivers for X, Y, and Z make the printer much more quiet. Also helps to add a resistor to the base fan or swap for a less noisy aftermarket fan. After those changes are made the only noise is when the extruder retracts and extrudes quickly, the hotend fan, and a little noise from the bearings.
@@dreamspectre_ What I heard is not just the fan, the stepper motors are without question loud as you can hear at 9:50 in the video here, but I am sure the fan is not helping.

@@kevinm3751 I don't recall saying anything of the sort. Why would print quality be ruined? The steps per unit does not change. They remain at 114.28 for X, Y, and Z.
wow, my experience was very dissimilar to yours (though my unit was from monoprice PR and had been used at trade shows) -Bed Levelling almost always gets it too low for me. -Part cooling is laughably bad. -anything higher than 80mm/s and the print quality drastically goes downhill. -so dimensionally inaccurate that i can print the same gcode twice and get different results. seriously, i had to stop even trying to print my hypercube [arts on this after spending 2 hours scaling a part for the X motor mounts as the part was far too small. It prints gorgeously, but it most certainly isnt accurate for me. and whilst 110mm diameter is fine, 120mm height is a bit small IMO 150mm would have been better. also, this thing is loud.

I think the fact the the hot nozzle pushes into the bed during ABL probing limits the bed surfaces available. Does your magnetic stuff not get melted?

For octoprint, you just have to install the plugin "Malyan/Monoprice Connection Fix".
I would love to get into 3d printing because I love figure painting. It's my favorite hobby.
Look into resin printers. Really amazing what it can do for figurine prints.

It's a shame the heated bed is so rubbish. Ironically I was initially interested in it because the frame design makes it very easy to modify in to an enclosed chamber for ABS prints.
There is a version of the Marlin FW, Marlin4MPMD, that will allow you to print ABS, PARTICULARLY if you get a 10amp power supply.

I'm truly surprised you were able to get accurate results from the printer. During the early runs of this printer there was a significant variance between the model and the output due to inconsistencies in the construction of the unit. The random lock ups during the firmware update were a huge negative as well. I really wanted to enjoy this printer, but I just couldn't for all the negatives you mentioned, plus the ones I observed.
From my reading it seems there is an unofficial updated version. Perhaps that accounts for the differences. It feels like a well sorted printer.

Thanks for the review. I had a lot more problems with this printer. For example the accuracy (x &y 2,5% too low) and the bed leveling with the hot nozzle and wrong bed leveling C offset in the provided cura profile that slowly ruined the buildtak surface. You can get this quiet with stepper dampers, tl smooters and a quiet fan but it is a hassle to do. And buying another power supply unit doesn't solve the problem with the weak bed heating. It seems to be set to this underpowered mode in the firmware that is closed source afaik. So no solution to that issue I guess. But when you can live with the downsides and it is tuned in it prints really well apart from the insufficient cooling. I gave it a 0.2 mm Nozzle and it prints my small and delicate parts like a champ. And oh it is fast! Have a great day! Cheers!
Nice review and good that you also have shown the high noise level. I think there is a market space for a small and very quit printer which is not really covered by many products and also not by this one. This would be useful for putting it on same desk people having their computer. If you have to put it in another room because of noise the size does not matter that much anymore and other features are coming more important.
Looks to be an excellent portable printer. Not quite sure if the build volume would be restricting though.
It is the number one problem, that's for sure. Increase the size, however, and the portability is gone. We need a delta with a telescopic structure.

@@qualandrew201494 Sure thing. I use PLA and PLA+. The nozzle temp is 190 and the bed temp is 50. I usually print at a speed of 40-55, almost always use a brim, and my layer height ranges from 0.15mm(terrain and such) to 0.07mm(characters and creatures). I also use the version of Cura that comes on the SD card. For some reason, updating Cura can cause compatibility issues.

This printer is actually available on Monoprice's website for $80 USD in "open-box" condition. Its an amazingly good price, so I picked one up.
Was it actually $80? I see it for $89 and I'm super tempted, if you received it how was the whole "open box" experience? I love my ender 3, but I think this would make an awesome addition!

Wow... you were lucky to get an "accurate" version out of the box. BUT did you test the actual measurements? They usually print about 1.5% on the small size.
I never owned a 3D printer i bought a Mini Delta to try as my first one. I never was about to use it. The only thing i was about to
print was the Cat that was on the SD card . I bought a Ender 3 pro. Right off i can use it with out any trouble at all. Everything
I tried to print out came out great. I haven't even plugged in the Mini Delta in no more just sets. As a first time user printer

I wanted to get a Delta to mess with and the portability is a plus. Would be good to take to work and make small prints during the shift and then easy enough to move and take back home. The ender 3 I have both and this one is super difficult to set up and has a tiny print bed. The ender 3 requires some assembly but is 1 million times better.

got mine on Monoprice for $129 US, came with a bad power brick which took another 4-5 days to get before i could print. I originally had a problem with PLA staying stuck to the bed but adding a brim to the print eliminated that issue. The bed leveling isn't good. Mine is low in the back and high in the front right. The low is enough where it almost prints in air and will not stick to the bed and the high will actually trigger the bed switches when printing the first few layers but it would still print. I put a glass build plate on it but it seemed like it was heavy enough to activate the bed switches during the leveling process which would stay activated and cause the tool head to back off to the top of the machine where it would just bump away until i unplugged it. Glass build plate is not an option in my case.
I have been able to work around the bed leveling issue a bit by minding where i place the print on the platform and i have gotten some really great prints from it. The only other issue is the axis rotation is off, the print faces "forward' in cura but will print facing to the left on the printer. Not a big deal but it does irritate me a bit for some reason. I am using the cura profiles downloaded from the mini delta wiki. (mpminidelta.com/start)
accuracy seems to be very good. I printed a mini crossbow and a large articulated Stormtrooper for my son with some parts in black on my ender3 (.1mm) and others in white on the mini delta (.14mm) and the dimensions appeared very close. The parts fit together as expected without any modification needed. However, I haven't tried anything that requires a high level of precision.
It is pretty noisy. There was someone selling the OEM boards updated with 2208 drivers for around $50 but doesn't appear he is offering them any more.
Overall it is a great little printer for the price. The .14mm resolution is as good or better than my ender 3 at .1mm in much less print time. It beat the Ender on a Benchy print with similar settings by over an hour.
The mainboards with TMC2208 stepper drivers are still available but currently out of stock. Shipment of parts including mainboards is arriving today. It will take a few days to change out the stepper drivers and run print test so hopefully by the end of the week or early next week.

I have a Mini delta but suddenly it stopped printing after I changed the filament. The menu works but the printer doesn't respond to any option. It doesn't print, no SD list is showed, it doesn't preheat, the nozzle and bed show a zero, the hot end assembly doesn't move and the fan either. Any idea what it could be ?...thank you.

100mm/s for a flexible on a bowden 0_0 what I haven't bothered going above 15mm/s on my anycubic yet :D tho mine is quiet weird and can't handle more than 45 for anything because the frame shakes so much. tho I did make the brass nuts better so that could be why hmmm

hey, a total noob here. I wanted to get into this hobby and I purchased this printer. The prints that are already loaded onto the SD card (stock) the printer prints beautifully, but any other prints that either I design in blender or download from thingiverse, after splicing the print doesn't stick to the bed (using PLA) and it warps just like I saw in your video. I set the bed temperature at 60 although it never truly gets there. What am I doing wrong? What are the typical causes of this happening? Thanks!!!

I have this printer, sadly other than the initial default gcode file(s) you get with it, ive been unsuccessful in even the software registering the printer and IF i manage it, so many others arise (bed never warms up properly, nozzle cools off and pulls print with itself or even nearly pushes too much into bed plate itself) replaved the psu with no difference and tried different material types as suggested it can use, had it over a year and gutted that never managed to use it! :( any pointers on working software (OS suggestions also) would be greatly appreciated)

Because of the small volume, how well does it work with very tiny nozzles to do some really fine, high detail prints? I am looking for a small printer for doing the small detailed stuff without changing nozzles on my main printer, or waiting for ages on my main printer...

The printer has been around long enough now that there is quite a well established community. I'll do some lurking and make decisions from there.
@@TeachingTech This was one of the only things holding me back from getting one, initially! I wanted it for the speed when prototyping parts, and for the accuracy for D&D minis, but the lack of cooling concerned me. So far, my only remedy has been to print some clips and attach a computer case fan to the side. It's far from perfect, but it works until something better can be found. Please keep us in the loop!

Great review I have been looking at the deltas for a while not this one but the next one up, in reality compared to a ender 3 proi how much faster would it be for printing say a benchy on the ender and then on the delta, Im looking for more speed, I only use pla or flexi at the moment and I print things to make lasers and so on, I was thinking of using this a delta as my normal printer ans upgrade the hotend, motherboard on the ender to print higher temperature filaments. What do you think on the speed difference please between the to on a identical object? Thank you Michael.

I have a business where I source products from other countries. In my business model I push the fact that I source locally handmade products from locals from around the world. I want to include a plastic tag with the coordinates of where products come from so people along with a tag with a description of the city or town it is located. Would a 3D printer like this be able to print a simple tag 3/4” x 2” x 1/4” how long would it take to print an object like that? Is there a printer that would allow 2 colors? So the base in white and the coordinates in another color?

I'm having trouble with mine. the PLA doesn't want to stick to the build plate and the resulting print is a garbled mess of random strings.
I would personally suggest the monoprice mini V2. Check out my review for why i think its a great printer!

Michael Ohana check the mpminidelta wiki. I recommend using version 15.whatever that’s included on the SD as it’s least likely to reset your configuration. You can import your gcode profile from the manufacturer provided cat file which can also be found on the wiki
Hi, I just got my Mini Delta, the first couple of prints were great, im amazed about the quality, buy now the problem, when I was trying to make another copy of the default model (the japanese cat) the printer moves and everything but nothing is printed, I was able to take out the filament (it wasn't stacked) but I get nothing print, and it makes a strange sound while its presumed to be printing ... could you help? thanks!
Try printing through usb or joining the 3d printing discord, they are a bunch of helpful people

@Steve White yes it is possible as long as your board has 4988 drivers for X, Y, and Z.
I have swapped the stepper drivers on the stock mainboard many times for the Mini Delta.

If your mainboard came with 4985 or 4995 stepper drivers then you can either purchase a mainboard that has TMC2208 drivers already installed but is otherwise a stock board, purchase a stock mainboard that has 4998 stepper drivers and change the drivers to TMC2208 yourself, or purchase an aftermarket board that you can install step-sticks with the driver of your choosing.
Thanks, yea that noise is for sure a deal breaker for me. Otherwise I would already have ordered at least one. I wonder if there is the potential to upgrade this with quieter stepper motors?
The control board cooling fan really is the major culprit here. Replace it with a 60mmx25mm Noctua, and you're golden ;)
Changing the stepper drivers for X, Y, and Z make the printer much more quiet.
Also helps to add a resistor to the base fan or swap for a less noisy aftermarket fan.
After those changes are made the only noise is when the extruder retracts and extrudes quickly, the hotend fan, and a little noise from the bearings.
@@dreamspectre_ What I heard is not just the fan, the stepper motors are without question loud as you can hear at 9:50 in the video here, but I am sure the fan is not helping.

@@kevinm3751 I don't recall saying anything of the sort. Why would print quality be ruined? The steps per unit does not change. They remain at 114.28 for X, Y, and Z.
wow, my experience was very dissimilar to yours (though my unit was from monoprice PR and had been used at trade shows)
-Bed Levelling almost always gets it too low for me.
-Part cooling is laughably bad.
-anything higher than 80mm/s and the print quality drastically goes downhill.
-so dimensionally inaccurate that i can print the same gcode twice and get different results.
seriously, i had to stop even trying to print my hypercube [arts on this after spending 2 hours scaling a part for the X motor mounts as the part was far too small.
It prints gorgeously, but it most certainly isnt accurate for me. and whilst 110mm diameter is fine, 120mm height is a bit small IMO 150mm would have been better.
also, this thing is loud.
