- Today's episode of Tool Review Tuesday features the Milwaukee M18 FUEL Quik-Lok Articulating Hedge Trimmer, model 49-16-2719. This tool is powered by a 9Ah 18 Volt battery. I put the hedge trimmer through many tests on bushes and shrubs. I also feature the 3' extension accessory, which is a much safer option instead of getting up on a ladder. Some amazing features of this tool include a 20" blade with a 1" cut capacity, a tip guard to prevent damage to the blade, a padded grip for optimal hand placement, and it rotates 270 degrees, with 13 operating positions. Please watch.the video all the way through to see how powerful it it and the amazing cut quality.

By far the best video on using an articulating hedge trimmer attachment. The only video that clearly shows all the angles that it can be set at, the cut quality, how to lubricate it -- even how it hangs up and stores. Thank you.
Great video Mark. No BS. My trimmer is scheduled to arrive today and can't wait to use it. The part about not having to use a ladder is key for me at 77 yrs!
Thanks, glad to hear it! I prefer working from the ground too. Hope the new trimmer works well for you.
Its good that you do the close up shots of the tools. Everyone sucks at remembering to do that.
Thanks, it's good to hear some feedback on that.
I just subscribed..
I couldn't find out how to move the articulating blade until I came to your channel
I appreciate your help
Thanks for the sub! I'll continue having outdoor power equipment on the channel.
QUICK and efficient video. Right to the point
Glad to hear it! I laugh thinking back to a high school teacher who said I answer questions in class like a politician... beat around the bush and never get to the point, lol!
A man and his toys, nice. Milwaukee pole saw and blower combo coming in tomorrow. I have Kobalt 80 volt cordless yard tools so far but decided on the Milwaukee as 3' section could be added while the Kobolt is fixed at 9 feet with hard to find replacement chain.
I'm really impressed with the Milwaukee Quik-Lok system. The 12Ah battery really delivers the power.
lots of action shots, thank you
You bet!🙌
Very informative. I just bought the grass trimmer, now I wanted to look into the hedge trimmer and pole saw.thanks for the video thumbs up!!
The hedge trimmer is awesome. I'm about to test out the pole saw very soon.
@@MarkThomasBuilder can you only use milwaukee attachments or can ryobi fit or another brand.thank you
@@nickalbia4739 No, not at all. This is a high-end, very high-quality tool which cannot use attachments from anything less. But this tool, you will love it, it will run a lot longer, and certainly do a lot more work much, much faster.
MilwaukeeElectric
both! I need all of these as a homeowner
It only hurts once when you buy it. You'll be glad to have it every time you need it.
Thanks Mark, this is what I need now, aged 78.
My De Walt is very good but the head flops about and it is now too top heavy using the extension pole with the motor being where it is . Now to find one in Cheshire , U.K. 😊😊👍👍
Hopefully you can get one shipped to you. I definitely like this one.
@@MarkThomasBuilder Thanks again Mark ,I like it too .
I've located one , the dealers aren't bad but tend not to carry the whole range of options but using two dealers , I'm fixed up now.
In fairness to them, there seems to be quite a few shortages over here and on the Continent at the moment, could it b China ? Inflation , don't know but thanks again, Ian 👍😊
I used the chain saw attachment to cut only about 6 honeysuckle branches up high. My gosh it gets heavy. By the 6th time lifting and holding it to cut it felt like a last set of overhead presses! Happy it did the job and didn't even phase the battery. You pop those attachments on and off fast, my M18 attchs have a silver button that has to line up with a notch in the power end. The boxwood trimming you added was great for me. think you should skinny down the sides of the bush by the pole to give you more room to trim it. First of spring was perfect trimming time.
I'm planning on using the saw attachment soon for the first time. Milwaukee offers a shoulder strap to go with this, but I'm not sure it would help with the weight?
@@MarkThomasBuilder Yeah you're right, it's kind of held in front or high reaching so there wouldn't be much or any weight on a shoulder strap. Hasn't been easy to get the hedge trimmer and extension attachments. Not even available on Amazon so you're lucky!
I’ve used mine once and it will take some practice to get the hang of this trimmer. It is heavier than I thought it would be so I adjusted the handle to help with the balance. Next time I use it I will grab it with my left hand further up the pole to see if that gives me better control.
Once you get used to the balance of it, then I'd say it works very well.
Great demo👍🏻
Thank you!
I was straddling the fence on the Milwaukee and was deciding between this Milwaukee or the Makita XNU01Z articulating hedge trimmer. You video may have just tipped the balance and convinced me to go with the Milwaukee trimmer.
Thanks for sharing. It's worked well for me over the past few years. I keep the blades maintained by using ECHO Red Armor Blade Cleaner & Lubricant.
QUESTION OF THE DAY: If you had to choose between 1 tool, would it be a regular hedge trimmer or an articulating hedge trimmer? And why? Also- what attachment would you like to see me review next? The chainsaw or edger?
Hello👋
Another great video! I would choose the articulating hedge trimmer, more versatile and easier to to reach taller bushes. I would like to see the chainsaw next.
I can only imagine the pole extension, I don't have to keep poking myself with all the shrubs
I would choose the articulating hedge trimmer.Because you can top off tall shrubs and cut at different angles. I would like to see the edger review next . Thanks
I'm leaning towards the articulating hedge trimmer as well. Thanks!
Thank You! G
You bet!
thanks so muich, made my decision easy
Glad it helped, thanks!
The Milwaukee pole hedger is the best investment you’ll ever make. It is an absolute beast mine doubles as a brush hog some days lol.
I just picked up this hedge trimmer free with the purchase of the trimmer 2825-21ST. I just bought a 200.00 Husqvarna gas trimmer and it turned out to be a POS. The line was like paper and to wind it was a nightmare, it went back the next day. An extra 100.00 bucks and got electric with a nice head that winds the line by the cap. Way nicer and a free hedger (150.00 to 180.00 on line) which I really needed.
It's an amazing tool that sure comes in handy. I like walking around my yard with the line trimmer, not having to run the engine all the time, like a gas unit. I'm woking on a video this weekend showing all the work I can do on a single charge of a 12Ah battery. I'm going to use the different attachments like the edger and chainsaw.
My new Husqvarna gas trimmer was working great until it stop working within couple hours of non continuous usage. They refused to fix it under warranty said I use bad gas. BS, I had 2 cycle equipment working for 20 years and being careful with new gas and oil mixture ratios. Switched to 80 volt Kobalt trimmer and never looked back, getting a Milwaukee pole saw and blower tomorrow.
Cool stuff
Thanks man!
@@MarkThomasBuilder ive been wanting this tool for a year trying to wait till next time it gos on sale
Good video
Thanks Tara!
Hi Mark thank you for the great videos. I really enjoy them. Can you tell me what is the name of the oil you used for the hedge trimmer blades?
ECHO Blade Cleaner and Lubricant. You can order it from Home Depot or a local dealer.
@@MarkThomasBuilder Thanks Mark keep up the great work
Considering purchasing this exact thing, weed eater with the hedge trimmer additionally. Wanted to touch up on hanging from that hole, that seems to work ok for you? I have a Rubbermaid strip from Home Depot that I’ll be hanging my system on and want to make sure it will be working. Thanks!
I have a small hook on my pegboard for the hedge trimmer accessory and it's working just fine. I also have the Rubbermaid Fasttrack system to hang the entire line trimmer accessory. I'll probably use the line trimmer weekly and the hedge trimmer bi-monthly.
markthomasbuilder thank you much sir, fun fact I’m originally from Michigan as well. Recently moved to Virginia. Kinda chuckled when I heard that in the previous video.
Do u know if you can use 2 extensions? I know it would be heavy and wobbly, just need to know if it is possible
I haven't heard of anyone doing that, but it looks like you could.
Its a beast! I got the 8amp head unit/ charger, trimmer pole, extension pole and 10” chain saw pole for $383 including 7.% tax. Free shipping to house! Opsie @ home depot
Nice! I like the 8ah high output battery. I just picked it up recently and it's becoming a favorite.
I really hope they add a brush cutter attachment someday.
That would be cool!
What is the name of the product you use to lube the blades? And would this work on honeysuckle? Not to cut them down but to keep them from pressing forward? Thanks!
It's ECHO Red Armor Blade Cleaner & Lubricant.
How has the Milwaukee equipment been holding up? Any critiques now that you’ve had them for a while?
My equipment is still going strong. The only maintenance I had to do was file a burr off the hedge trimmer, which took about 5 minutes.
will it adjust to cut at ground level, a rye cover crop?
Yes, I've flush cut stuff with it by adjusting it.
On that tall tree, I do believe that the trimmer almost came into contact with the outer leaves.
That gear looks professional quality.
How is the power head holding up after 3yrs of use?
Still going strong. I'm liking the M18 8Ah in this for all-around use.
@@MarkThomasBuilder Thanks for your reply.
It's a toss up between this an Stihl to what I'm gonna buy. Thanks again.
How about some heavy trimming examples! Was this a product review or a video of your Saturday light work
Noted!
How do you clean the blade?
I put ECHO Red Armor Blade Cleaner on it regularly. You might find it at your dealer otherwise you can order it from the Home Depot website.
Are these 80% off websites for Milwaukee real or is it to fake. I just wanted to purchase the power head and hedge trimmer but can’t see where this is an option
I would stick to buying from Home Depot. You'll get it fast and you can trust them or return it to the store if there's an issue.
Do you still need to oil the blade?
Just put ECHO Red Armor Blade Cleaner after each use on both sides of the blade and you'll be good.
Used mine twice and the dang thing locked up on me . It's got pop over down to the hedgers because it torques when you pull the trigger bit the blades won't move . Trimmed 5 bushes. Disappointing.
Mine locked up just once on me after the first year. I noticed some metal got bent somehow, so I spent 10 minutes filing the burr off. It's worked well ever since. I also maintain it after each use by applying ECHO Red Armor Blade Cleaner and Lubricant.
Where is this unit made...???
The label says professionally made in China.
Finally bought this and the extension pole to complete the set now I feel l like I’ve unlocked all the Milwaukee infinity stones. 😂 Mwuhahaha
Congratulations, you have arrived! Nothing can stop you now!🙌😎
Edger 1st, then Chainsaw 2nd
That's my plan for finishing the reviews.
Chainsaw first
👍
Pole saw
That's on my list for this week!
I bought one and will be getting it Monday m18 QUIK-lock string trimmer kit and got the pole saw attachment free
Nice, I"m sure it will come in handy, especially when using it instead of a chainsaw on a ladder.
Yes it will because I take care of the lawn at the hardware store where I work
I wanna see the saw first
You're saying I should demonstrate the saw and then show the specs?
@@MarkThomasBuilder Yes sir I'd love to see you run the saw and then tell us all about it. I'm very interested in this tool
Thanks for letting me know. I'll try another review in that style and see what people say.
It's hopelessly heavy. Only useful to avoid a ladder, but otherwise an expensive mistake. I regret buying it.
I like this in addition to my handheld hedge trimmer. It's nice when you don't need a ladder.
maybe cut something next time.
No problem, hedge trimming season is just about to start.
The trimmer is not good
Why .?
