Handheld hedge trimmers seem to be the only battery equipment that can be almost universally recommended over gas handheld hedge trimmers, for all the reasons you point out. Most other battery tools (blower, string trimmer, attachment systems that rely on spinning a shaft) all seem to have a much less economical conversion of electric to mechanical energy then the handheld hedge trimmers and don't seem work for folks doing this on more than a homeowner level.

A hedge trimmer doesnt require much power to run compared to others you mentioned.

Great review I think you touched on all the technical points that many other reviews fail to mention. Ive used these M18 hedge trimmers on hundreds of jobs by now and they work very acceptably. For battery blowers I think Ego has much better ones. I have the 530 cfm and they have a 650 cfm handheld out now. Battery can do a lot but I still need my gas blowers for big leaf clean ups and I need my big gas chainsaw for cutting up big logs. Ive overheated a few batteries before making big cuts with my m18 chainsaw. As long as I do with the tool what its designed for these M18 yard tools are bad ass. I do wish they were ip4 water resistant like ego though?

I have both the trimmer and blower. Using a 9AH battery. the blower as you mentioned does eat up that battery. Mine lasts maybe 20-25 minutes. The trimmers will go a long way on a charge until the point I get tired. They do feel heavy but no gas and no gas smell is great. I'm a homeowner who uses stuff pretty hard, not abused just hard. Its a nice trimmer I got mine for around 150 with my veteran discount at HD. The blower I find will suck my t shirt into the intake and having a tough time removing the battery from both the blower and charger other than that they are great for the homeowner and light commercial I would think. Very happy with that trimmer.

    Hi,
I use my battery operated tools at home only. I'm not in the lawn or yard service so my opinion is only base as a homeowner use.
I use the DeWalt hedge trimmer, Milwaukee weed trimmer, Milwaukee chainsaw and Milwaukee blower. For lawn mower i still use my gas.
They have saved me money on fuel and maintenance. Plus not as noisy. Great to use for home owners.
The reason i use the dewalt hedge trimmer was it's weight. It's lighter than the milwaukee hedge trimmer. Plus i like the safety switch on the dewalt trigger which is way easier. Still a little slow but for my needs it works great. Hopefull DeWalt can make a faster and brushless version soon.
I agree with you that you have to let the hedge trimmer do the work. Also i like your idea with the double blade for the hedge trimmer.
    Just wanted to share.
    Thanks for the video

The one bar power decrease is pretty noticeable on all the high drain stuff I use like grinders or reciprocating saws. I am sure you know this but milwaukee makes a charger to carry in your vehicle and they work fantastic.

zepplin810 I’ve used it in the field but it does not last as long. I like to run without a guard leaving it too much strain in the engine. I trimmed out one property and it killed the battery. Do you find you get more power, meaning the blades move faster, with the high output batteries vs the regular XC batteries? I just bought one, but it seems slow compared to my old Ryobi non-brushless trimmer that is rated slower than the Milwaukee. I’m only using an XC 5.0 though and am wondering if the high output battery would make a difference.

Overall a very good review! Good job, I just am frustrated with all these RUclips reviews claiming all Milwaukee equipment is the greatest on earth. Bought a couple backpack sprayers, one leaked and would not spray. Replacement leaked worse but functional. I am intrigued by the hedge trimmers but am extremely hesitant as my gas powered stuff is great. Seems your the only honest review I have come across. Still might give it a shot as I’m already invested in tons of Milwaukee tools in my shop and have batteries.
