"Not the brightest bulb in the box but when we lost her, all our lights went out". What lovely words from a lovely person about a lovely person. The tears at the end are not "scripted". They are real.

It was a pity the same words were not made for Letitia Cropley (Liz Smith) when she died.

@@andyrob3259 That's because she did not die IRL until twenty years after after leaving the show and was not such an integral part of the story. Liz Smith was also 95 when she died after a full life, while the death of Emma Chambers was far far too soon at just 53 years old.

Because I have heard that in real life they were very good friends, but had a much different relationship than the characters they played. Dearest Dawn French, the generosity you and the incredible cast of VoD possessed, and that allowed those indelible characters to be captured in those timeless moments of honesty, truth, pure insanity and emotion, is something I wish to thank you for personally. Such courage to create comedy that wasn't afraid to draw a tear! I will continue to laugh, and to weep, and be ever grateful not only to have had the opportunity to experience your (and the creators', crew's and entire cast's) brilliant work, but that I was privileged to share this wonderful world with such incredibly talented and remarkable people, however distant we might have been. Thank you for your continued willingness to share your heart, your energy and your gifts. By doing so you have indeed kept the residents of Dibley, and those who created them, "eternally here."

Thank you so much Dawn/Geraldine for this. My mum was found passed away in her hometown by the police and her neighbours last Thursday - but I think she may have actually gone on Monday or Tuesday night. She was 64, and it was completely unexpected.
I was just randomly watching an old episode of “Name That Tune” and this popped up as a recommendation. It’s really touched my heart. God Bless. Xx

      My most sincere condolences.
I cannot tell you how many I lost over the past four years, starting with my father, my sister eighteen months ago, a woman and mother I have known since fourth grade.
As a child, we hold simplistic views of death. As we age, it changes. I find it difficult, starting as a teenager, even worse as I am 57, and have known too many people who are now deceased.
The grief that Dawn/Geraldine feels is real, and raw, and, unfortunately, time never seems to heal. It comes and goes like waves in the ocean.

"Grief never ends, but it changes.
It is a passage, not a place to stay.
Grief is not a sign of weakness or a lack of faith...it is the price of love."
Someone shared this with me when I lost my Mom and it helped. Hoping it helps you as well. 🙏

@@frothe42 You're welcome. So sorry for your losses as well. As I get older (I'm 52) each one seems to hit a little closer, but I wouldn't give up having loved them for anything.

Dawn French near the end had me in tears. Alice will always be the best dumb character in a comedy show. Emma Chambers really sold that childlike personality she brought to Alice where she went to the full extreme but yet you believed what she was saying. The I can't believe it's not butter will always stay memorable for me.

Beautiful message in dark times, the grief dims and the fondness gently re-emerges. Our capacity to recall our journey to "right now" is an understated marvel of our existence. May we use it with grace and kindness... just like Alice.
