I typically don't go off the rails regarding a celebrity, but the day I found out she had passed I cried my eyes out. She was such a wonderful friend that I was still waiting to meet.

My sister walked a few rooms over and my Uncle was told. He passed moments later. I have lost others but that damned C word! Praying for all of you on your journey with grief. We never forget. Because I have heard that in real life they were very good friends, but had a much different relationship than the characters they played. I’m sure there was one interview that Dawn gave years ago where she said that Emma was actually quite intelligent, and that Dawn had the greatest respect for her.
Apparently she was so emotional when filming this that it took 17 takes, and even then they just ended up settling for the least emotional one, because they were very good friends in real life

Dear god I feel so bad for Geraldine and Dawn…both had to bury one of their best friends and both are still coming to terms over it. There are many tough things you have to deal with as a vicar, and burying one of your close friends is one of the toughest things you probably have to do. Grief is a powerful thing, isn’t it?
As a Celebrant, I must say this was a seriously brilliant eulogy. Dawn did a brilliant delivery and it just shows how real actors can take their lines into reality with true care and honest feelings.
This may be the only decent VOD thing to happen since the finale. An honest to God emotionally driven and well performed tribute to an actor and character who will never die in our memories.
And only really this segment of the full episode. The rest of the episode was awful as well as the other two mini specials. Richard Curtis really seems to have lost his touch. This segment though remembering Alice was beautiful

Today is my mom's birthday, she died last year after 6 years of battling cancer like a warrior. I was remembering her and weeping, still in disbelief that she is gone. Grief is like waves that wash over you and something you never get over but learn to live with. I hope mom and Alice/Emma are having a grand ole time in whatever stardust heaven they now occupy. We will love and miss you both forever.

My mum was found passed away in her hometown by the police and her neighbours last Thursday - but I think she may have actually gone on Monday or Tuesday night. She was 64, and it was completely unexpected. I was just randomly watching an old episode of “Name That Tune” and this popped up as a recommendation. It’s really touched my heart. God Bless. Xx
My most sincere condolences. I cannot tell you how many I lost over the past four years, starting with my father, my sister eighteen months ago, a woman and mother I have known since fourth grade. As a child, we hold simplistic views of death. As we age, it changes. I find it difficult, starting as a teenager, even worse as I am 57, and have known too many people who are now deceased. The grief that Dawn/Geraldine feels is real, and raw, and, unfortunately, time never seems to heal. It comes and goes like waves in the ocean.
"Grief never ends, but it changes. It is a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness or a lack of faith...it is the price of love." Someone shared this with me when I lost my Mom and it helped. Hoping it helps you as well. 🙏

Dawn French near the end had me in tears. Alice will always be the best dumb character in a comedy show. Emma Chambers really sold that childlike personality she brought to Alice where she went to the full extreme but yet you believed what she was saying. The I can't believe it's not butter will always stay memorable for me.
Beautiful message in dark times, the grief dims and the fondness gently re-emerges. Our capacity to recall our journey to "right now" is an understated marvel of our existence. May we use it with grace and kindness... just like Alice.

I always smile when I think of her. My friend and I watched her wedding on a flight to Florida. We laughed so loud the flight attendant came over!

Thank you so much Dawn/Geraldine for this. My mum was found passed away in her hometown by the police and her neighbours last Thursday - but I think she may have actually gone on Monday or Tuesday night. She was 64, and it was completely unexpected.

I cannot tell you how many I lost over the past four years, starting with my father, my sister eighteen months ago, a woman and mother I have known since fourth grade.
As a child, we hold simplistic views of death. As we age, it changes. I find it difficult, starting as a teenager, even worse as I am 57, and have known too many people who are now deceased.
The grief that Dawn/Geraldine feels is real, and raw, and, unfortunately, time never seems to heal. It comes and goes like waves in the ocean.
"Grief never ends, but it changes.
It is a passage, not a place to stay.
Grief is not a sign of weakness or a lack of faith...it is the price of love."
Someone shared this with me when I lost my Mom and it helped. Hoping it helps you as well. 🙏

I’m so sorry she was so young too!! it’s very hard to loose your mum mine passed nearly 20 years ago I miss her every day.

Dawn French near the end had me in tears. Alice will always be the best dumb character in a comedy show. Emma Chambers really sold that childlike personality she brought to Alice where she went to the full extreme but yet you believed what she was saying. The I can't believe it's not butter will always stay memorable for me.
She was that essential part of Vicar of Dibley which made it so great to watch…all those characters….Emma played her part superbly.rest in peace.
Beautiful message in dark times, the grief dims and the fondness gently re-emerges. Our capacity to recall our journey to "right now" is an understated marvel of our existence. May we use it with grace and kindness... just like Alice.
Emma Chambers was simply perfect as Alice and it was impossible not to.love her.
