It’s time to talk about POOP. We are surrounded by two little boys so poop talk is a regular occurrence in our lives HAHA! But seriously, lets get down and dirty and talk about the different options available for toilets on a BOAT.
This is our story! Our story of a family with big dreams to sail off into the deep blue sea. Come along with us while we pack up our lives and make the ocean our new home.

About Us: Cruising the World with SV Meraki! We are THREE Generations coming together to create the Cruising Meraki Project. Join Kevin, Shawna, Mick, Kate, Thomas and Bentley's sailing adventure of a lifetime. An adventure that leads them to meet wonderful people, experience new cultures and see the world in a whole new way. We hope you enjoy our project as much as we enjoy sharing it with you!
What is the Cruising Meraki Project?
The “Project” began back in 2018 when we first decided to start working towards a goal of sailing the world as 3 generations. The term “Project” is fitting for us as we are working together collaboratively to achieve a common goal.
meraki [mer-ah-kee] (verb) This is a word that modern Greeks often use to describe doing something with soul, creativity, or love - when you put “something of yourself” into what you’re doing, whatever it may be.

Way to go guys!!! Love your videos 🥳 We are doing the exact same with our head - except we went with the “Airhead” as our shelf is super tiny and it was the only one that would fit! Definitely seems like the way to go! Cheers from South Island!! ~SV Aribel

Hey thanks guys!! Have you had much use of your new composting head? How’s it working for you?

We haven’t given it a trial run yet - just finishing up the install but stoked to give it a spin (as much as one can be lol). We’ll give it lots of sea trial time in the next couple of weeks! Curious to hear how you find the peat moss - we are using coconut coir so we’ll see how that goes! Fair winds you guys - maybe we’ll see you on the water this summer! ⛵️

We’re super happy with the peat moss. Toilet is running fantastically (we’re 5 weeks into living aboard in real time)

Well done Kate and Mick. I’m glad you are happy with this decision. I’m also interested to know if sea water can work …

Mick had a good point that sea water might rust some of the internal metal parts so I think we will just continue to use precious fresh water 😂

Do you need live worms in the peat moss?

No, just need to keep the peat moss moist.

Toilet paper is the closest I want to get to poop, I defiantly don't want to be playing with it! Or smelling it!

Oh we agree! So far (we’re 5 weeks living aboard in real time) we haven’t had to touch or smell any poop… thankfully 🥳
