Cruising Meraki • Sailing Family
Канада
Добавлен 7 окт 2019
We are a multigenerational sailing channel with 2 boats and 1 collective dream of crossing oceans.
Meet Mick, Kate and their 2 boys Thomas and Bentley aboard Meraki a Stan Huntingford Explorer 45. An Aussie/Canadian family who dreamed of living life differently and took the leap into sailing life during COVID and have never looked back.
You'll also get to know Kevin and Shawna (parents to Kate) aboard M2 a TransPac 49'. They've had had a lifelong dream to sail the world.
While the original goal was to be visiting anchorages together, life had different plans. With one boat being purchased in the Pacific NorthWest and the other acquired in the Caribbean we've been waiting out Hurricane season in separate Oceans.. but the reunion is going to be OH, SO, SWEET!
Explore the world through our eyes on our sailboat adventure of a lifetime! Let us take you with us on this journey to the next destination.
If you love adventure and want to see more you're in the right place.

i hope you put the small firstand so on and so on if you put the big one on that is all that bonds the the glass
@@frednicolosi8880 lol, that’s exactly what I thought when I first started researching the repairs. I think when it comes down to it, as long as the prep is done right and the epoxy creates a good bond it shouldn’t really matter which way it’s done. I found most did the big patch first so it bonds all the layers together that are already on the hull. Most of the research I did made the repairs the same, big patch first.
Link expired; did she sell?
What happened????
Natural seepage can be seen coming out of cliffs along the shore. In particular at Carpentaria Beach South of Santa Barbara. Hence the Indiginous tribes built boats out of wood and sealed them with the oil/tar. Carpentaria was named by the Spanish for the place that carpenters built the boats.
I'm curious which starlink plan was necessary to have the connection offshore or in Polynesia. Were you able to use the 150$ mobile regional plan and then pay extra per gb? Or was a higher tier plan required? Thanks and I've enjoyed seeing some of your videos through FP!
@@tcarden86 it was during the early trial days and starlink wasn’t as regulated. We just had a basic plan but now times have changed.
Miss you guys!!! Really hope you will consider making videos about your current lives. I can't be the only one missing guys :)
Those who have watched the movie Jaws know that hearing this sound can be scary especially in the silence of the night until you hear a loud bang as someone tries to wreck the boat. These moments of horror were experienced by the captain of the Orca boat Quint and his team Brody and Hooper when a bloodthirsty shark attacked them and took one of the team members as its prey. At the end of the movie, the shark is finally eliminated when police chief Brody kills it, even Hooper survives with just a scare!!! Probably Brody also felt fear inside when he heard the song of the whales and his blood froze with terror because he was afraid of the sea and maybe he was also afraid of being eaten 🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈
Ouch. I can't imagine how difficult that decision is 😢
Lit
gorgeous boat with a great name. can't imagine a better budget cruiser for a couple or family.
Mom, you're disturbing us when we play.😂😂
😅 they’re so funny.
Thank you for another Wonderfull video. Sad to hear that Harry passed away. Cheers from Western Canada
Thanks for the memories that this video stirs up. Love it!
The kids didn’t seem very excited about the crab, but I would have been over the moon to get a crab dinner in the middle of nowhere 😊 I was hoping for the adult perspective on the quality of coconut crab versus other types of crab. Too bad you didn’t have the drawn butter🙁
@@bgzwlz5119 haha they were excited, especially Tommy. Bentley is a little less sure of shellfish but still enjoyed the adventure of it. The crab was delish!
Beautiful!!❤😎👍👍👍 RIP Harry!😞🙏
Very cool place to stop. Here in Maryland, USA we love our crabs, although they are different species... nothing better to eat. I saw your Meraki sailboat for sale on YachtHub... what a bargain for her next owner. All the extensive refit video is on this channel for her lucky new owner to review prior to purchase. The US dollar is at a very good exchange rate... but falling... so act quick. Not the right time for me, but someone is going to get a great ocean crossing yacht. It's so cool to me that the boys got to sail to their Dad's homeland, and then spend some time there. It's been great following you from the beginning and I wish you all the best of luck.

Wow, lovely island. A big garden in a shallow pool. Not safe in a storm, I imagine. I kept thinking that one of those fellow cruisers looked familiar... until I recognized the guy lol. Love them Coconut Crabs! Wow, they're overrunning the place. Aww, I sure love those Hermit tree crawlers, too.
@@FrankJamger we were lucky all the stars aligned for us to visit this tiny island 🥰
So does this mean someone could be halway between Fiji and Panama and be able to watch Netflix or livestream by using Starlink
I may not agree with what schools are teaching children today. But understand the done with living on top of water. Time to teach your boys how to hang a elk.
Bullshit vid
So fun! Love the skateboard/fruit carry! 😂 Wish we'd been there at the same time as you!
Salt’s? Out of Victoria BC?
That must hurt. I’m in Sidney BC found Your yacht listed. Will check more carefully. She looks so well equipped

One last look at these beautiful islands. Love the hills and coral reefs. The boys sure liked the speed of that new motor. Sad to go but I guess everyone can't live in FP! Have a safe passage to Tonga.

I still come back to watch this clip. Can’t believe it!
Hello from NZ , my 29 ft yacht has superficial but extensive blisters and I am in the process of getting quotes for remediation. The process they use at the yards is to plane it then use heated vacuum blankets to dry out the laminate on an accelerated basis. Then i think once the moisture content is below a certain reading they apply 2 layers of vinyl ester resin with cloth and then I presume epoxy barrier coats over that. The whole process takes 5 weeks approx. The laminate can dry out on a natural basis but it takes a very long time. I have been quoted $18000 plus tax and hardstand fees.
That sounds about right, we chose another method which we document in another video and 3 years later we’re really happy with the results.
Awe. I've missed you guys but understand the need to move on. Look forward to your Fiji videos
Thanks Tanya, it feels good to have a direction and to be back on the video train.
So sad! LOVE your channel. But I completely understand your decision of family first. Thank You So Much for sharing with us. Maybe consider continuing your RUclips channel on land? I watch several that are just people doing their stuff, and who knows, you may end up back on the water, I have seen more than one do that after getting back to the "routine" they thought they wanted :)
Thanks so much, apprciate the support!
Wow! Great Job on the furling headsail! I took a quick look at your listing. I would be surprised if Meraki did not sell very quickly at that price. How are your parents doing? Still sailing? Thanks for the update!
Thanks for all the kind support over the years! M2 will sail on, they do not have a for sure plan yet as to where... one season at a time.
Love your content and seeing everyone grow! Do you guys still have plans to maintain the channel after you've settled back into land-life?
It's wild to look back at how little the boys were when we started this journey!
Buckle up....she's gonna sell faster than you think! We made the decision to sell Wildhood last fall with the idea that we would just keep cruising while she was on the market...needless to say it happened fast! We are actually moving back to my home town (Kingston, Ontario) and about to drive across the country to make that happen. Was wondering where you'd been, you guys sound and look great...is the plan to come back to Canada? Settle where? Kingston has a nice big lake....cheers!
Wildhood was such a special boat, no wonder she sold fast!! Big things for your fam, hope the move goes smoothly, hope we cross paths again one day :)
where is Nick's home town?
Melbourne
WOW - big news!!! Life is an adventure and sometimes it’s on the sea and sometimes it’s on land…. Then repeat 🤣 Good on you guys! Sad to see Meraki go but happy that you guys are continuing to adventure onwards whatever that looks like! Fair winds from Vancouver Island!!
So true! Land, sea, land , sea!
What amazing adventures your family been through this last 3 years. I am so so happy for you and all that you have offered your boys…I have loved watching where you have travelled and wish you all the best settling somewhere for the boys to attend school. Meraki maybe be sold soon but the memories will be there always.
Awww! You guys, I felt emotional watching this. Excited to see more of your travels through Fiji and whatever this next season of live holds for your family. Love you ❤
@@rachaelbradbury8919 such a mix of emotions!

Ahhhh. Well I want to say you’ve been an inspiration to me. I show your videos to my fam and say,..see, we are going just where they were and we’ll see awesome things like whale sharks too! Life always opens doors and I’ve been nothing but impressed with you guys. If you end up in Mexico next year for whatever reason reach out so my kids can play with yours :) all the best, Aaron

We love your little RUclips channel. It was lovely to get an update and I am sure Meraki will sell quickly. She looks to be in great shape. One comment you mentioned made me sit back and worry. Fiji food prices are cheap. Yikes, we lived in Fiji for 10 years and return to Oz early in the Pandemic. We found Fiji food prices to be double Australia’s. Fruit and veg was good at the markets and great seafood at the docks but everything else horrendous. This makes me worry about us ever going to USA Mexico etc and then to French Poly. It sounds expensive 😳😬
I’m shocked you found fiji more expensive than Aus!!! We found groceries very expensive in Australia and love shopping the local markets here, we definitely avoid (for the most part) imported goods.
So happy for you - sad for us. What are your parents going to do?
Did you find full time work in Australia?
