About Us: Cruising the World with SV Meraki! We are THREE Generations coming together to create the Cruising Meraki Project. Join Kevin, Shawna, Mick, Kate, Thomas and Bentley's sailing adventure of a lifetime. An adventure that leads them to meet wonderful people, experience new cultures and see the world in a whole new way. We hope you enjoy our project as much as we enjoy sharing it with you!
What is the Cruising Meraki Project?
The “Project” began back in 2018 when we first decided to start working towards a goal of sailing the world as 3 generations. The term “Project” is fitting for us as we are working together collaboratively to achieve a common goal.
meraki [mer-ah-kee] (verb) This is a word that modern Greeks often use to describe doing something with soul, creativity, or love - when you put “something of yourself” into what you’re doing, whatever it may be.

That's a smart kid wanting to smell the water in the bilge to see if it is salty or not.

Love 💕 that diesel starting. On the Limpet it was a three cylinder hand crank.
I remember learning all the firsts being my brothers 1st Mate for many year. I was always pushing my kid brother to sail n put more up.
I have great memories of running Seymour Narrows.. that’s a trill n a half. Cheers 🥂 Papa J

Found your One year old You-tube set. I guess I’m enjoying Ep.26 this morning down here in the foothills of Puget Sound.
I’m 77 yrs now n spent my time on the water from here to Alaska a time or so but it was on my brothers home built 35’ Endurance cutter. That was in the mid 1970’s n early 80’s. Great memories!
I’m enjoy familiar scenes n names watching your life aboard.
Wishing you the best n fair winds ta boot. Cheers 🥂 n blessings from this old salt .. Papa J

Try the repair you mentioned. I have a similar leak with my rudder upper bushing. When anchored or moored the water presents very little force on the rudder resulting in no movement and very little water leak. When underway there are more forces jerking on the rudder in all directions and a failing seal is likely to be jarred around letting in water. Next time you are anchored in rough weather, turn your rudder sideways, look for play, and you may see more leaking.

Fabulous tips, thank you! seems a "minor" leak but any leak isn't so great on a boat haha. "Water on the outside - good, water on the inside - bad" haha

Must be a great relief to find out where the leak was coming from!

Such a cozy space to listen to that wind howl!

If you aren't using a line to haul the outboard aboard use a slack line to tie it to the boat before lifting it. Then if you ever drop it you can just haul it back up instead of having to dive for it.

hehe we are dare devils living on the edge :P haha but you're right we need to rig something better up.

You only need the adjustable back stays (running back stays) when you are using the staysail. The rest of the time they can both be tied off near the mast out of the way. Their purpose is countering the pull from the staysail.

Lol, I keep forgetting there is a delay. Eventually I'll drop something useful.

Look into 12v usb charging ports rather than using the inverter. I'm just throwing in suggestions as I see them. If I get annoying just tell me to stop lol.

Haha all good. We do have lots of 12v USB ports 👍🏼
