Jenna Rainey (day 6) star
Jenna, thanks for your clear instructions without a lot of nonsense chatter...good job!
Hi Jenna
I had to retire early due to the virus. I decided to take up painting. I tried paint pooring but just ended up with a mess. Then I discovered your chanel and now I'm addicted to water colour thanks to your brilliant tutorials. Keep up the great work.. 👏
Jenna, I am mesmerized by the lacy look going on around the middle. 💙💚💜💖
I must admit that I do understand “hippie dippy woo woo”. As an old hippie who has old hippie dippy friends, we literally use the term often.
As in “I know this sounds woo woo hippie dippy but….” , or “that’s too hippie dippy woo woo even for us!” 😆
Oddly enough, we are all artists over 60.
As a beginner I enjoy real time tutorials for watercolor. Thank you for explaining your process. So many artists don't. I can't wait to try this flower. Your painting is gorgeous. I love the simplicity.
I so agree Kim. This tutorial was step by step, and it was wonderful! I felt so inspired rather than frustrated. So many artists say their tutorials are step by step, but then keep all the steps in their head and don't bother sharing. Plus I know that video length is a concern for whatever reason, but it helps me little as a fairly new water color enthusiast, if the video is 3/4 over before I even get back from filling up my water jars at the kitchen sink! We so appreciate you taking the time Jenna to walk us through your process. I leave your video feeling like I am capable of achieving the piece you shared. You are a great teacher and THAT is a gift. Looking forward to the new book!
Thanks Kim! I appreciate your feedback and encouragement. I can't wait for YOU to try this flower. Just keep up the practice and I know you'll do a wonderful job - and don't forget to have fun with the process! More tutorials coming SOON! Happy painting!
Thanks so much, Terri, that's super sweet of you to say. I'm very glad you are left inspired! Keep up the practice and have fun painting!! xoxo
@@JennaRaineyChannel I just painted this today and it turned out pretty good. The one suggestion I would make that would be so helpful, at least for me its to keep the camera on the actual painting most of the time so we can see the progression a bit better and for longer stretches.
@@raggedyroad Thanks for the feedback! We definitely appreciate knowing what is most helpful for those watching. I'm glad your flower turned out good!
So appreciate your notes about the "wall of water." Thank you, Jenna!
The wall of water!!!!! What? I learned that today. Thank you.
Haha YES!! I’m so glad you learned something from the video!
I just found you on RUclips and adore you! You do a great job explaining everything! You are also an amazing artist!!! BUT if I could ask something of you... you don’t show enough close ups while you are painting! CAN YOU DO MORE PLEASE!!! If so then you would have a subscriber for LIFE! Lol
Thanks so much for the support and feedback. We'll definitely try to get as many of those close-ups as we can! :)
Amen, I love her e book.
My first time here and new to watercolor from colored pencil. That Prussian blue made me sit down with some brand new paints and good paper. I think my flower came put pretty good, thanks to your detailed painting directions. I think I would have used way too big a brush and too much water otherwise = puddle. Now to get up my courage for the stem and leaves. I’m really having fun ~ thank you so much!
Thanks for letting me in on your process, Sharon! It sounds like you're having fun with it, and that's the most important part. Keep it up and I'm sure it will turn out fantastic! Happy painting!
I just came on to your RUclips channel as I was looking to practice water colorpainting today. Thanks so much. I did your red/orange poppies and your blue flower. It was so much fun and this afternoon went by way too fast. I'm going to work on them again now that I feel like I attempted them for the first time. Hopefully I'll do better the second time around. So glad I found you, It's so fun to see what you create and that we don't have to be afraid. It's only paper......try, try again! ❤️❤️❤️
Hey Gloria! I'm so glad you found my channel! I am so happy to hear you've worked through some tutorials and your diving into your creativity. Keep me posted on things your working on, questions you have and I'll do my best to get back to you. I hope my videos continue to teach and inspire! ❤️
I think it’s really cool that the petal that bled into the next, got to stay.. you didn’t throw it out, you went with it and it is beautiful.. I’m a freak and am uncomfortable with imperfections and uneven numbers, ect.. lol. I would have had to scratch it and begin again.. it shows your comfort level and or confidence in your work but more importantly reminds us that we are all unique including our individual painting style and it is all beautiful , beautiful and perfectly imperfect... this is why I love watercolor ..
Thank you so much for sharing your gift.. this one of my favorites in your body of work I have seen.. beautiful 🌸
Thanks so much for your feedback! Ya, that is totally my style, but I know it's out of a lot of people's comfort zones. I definitely encourage trying to escape that comfort zone, even if it's little steps at a time -- you could create something beautiful you would've missed had the piece been thrown out at first disappointment. I hope that made sense, ha! Take care!
You inspired me to take a leap into the artistic world with absolutely no background but a massive amount of motivation to make this work. I appreciate your efforts and I can only imagine how many hours you spent on creating quality content and practical guidelines for novices like me x
That's what I am here for, Arianna. I am SO glad to hear that you are inspired and motivated -- even with no background! I totally believe in you, just gotta put in the time and practice. You'll get there, for sure! Thanks for the support and stay posted because more tutorials are coming SOON! :) happy painting! xo
ALSO -- this is a extremely well done live video. Most are poorly lit and the sound is not so natural. This is truly professional.
Thanks so much for the compliment, Renee! Happy painting!
Thank you for such a beautiful blue flower! I’m very new with painting with watercolor ! I’m 82 and just decided I needed something fun to do in spare time! You explained everything so well, I learned so much, that will help me with future pictures!! Your an amazing artist!!
Love this, Beverly!! Happy painting!
Thanks, Jenna. Learned a lot. I like you simple approach!
So beautiful with such vibrant colors! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching! Happy painting!
Hello! Watching this video has inspired me to get my watercolors out again!!! I haven’t really used them much...it’s almost been a year. Thank you SO MUCH for being such an inspiration! 😊🔆
I am SO excited you have found some inspiration to bust those brushes out! Follow along because I have MANY tutorials coming! :) Happy painting Deborah!
DEBORAH! You're the winner! John (my husband) just did a random number generator to decide the winner of the Anemone and your number got picked! Since you are a subscriber, you are officially our winner! Congrats! E-mail hello@jennarainey.com to let us know where to ship the piece.
Watching again and wondering why anyone would hit thumbs down?
Aw that’s sweet. Some people are annoyed that I “talk too much” in this video...
Jenna I have to say, I'm not just commenting for the giveaway but also because I wanted to tell you that you inspire me so much with your art and your candid-ness about how challenging but worth it is the journey of motherhood. I've been dealing with some issues of my own and watching you work through yours and be so open and honest about them has genuinely helped me through mine. Thanks for all you do! P.s. I'm hoping to start my own business by end of this year and you are the person I look up to because DUH! XoXo ❤⚘
Thank you so much for sharing, Rio Lind, I appreciate hearing stories like this because that's why I do what I do. I am just trying to help, encourage, and build others up through my story and my art. I am SO glad that you are inspired and motivated and that my story has helped you on your journey. All the best with starting your business! It really is hard work, but it's also very rewarding. Take care! xoxo
Such a delight! You are fun to watch, Jenna. I have my supplies that you are using here. When daylight rolls around, I will give it a go. 😊
Jenna, you are seriously the best. So down to earth and easy breezy!!! Love this new you tube gig.
Awww, thanks Martha. I really appreciate that. Thank you for following along! Make sure to comment and let me know if there is ever anything specific you'd like me to cover. I'll do my best to put videos out of what people are really wanting to learn. Take care!
You are the absolute best watercolor teacher out there. I’ve bought all of your books and my work has improved SO much because of my consistent practice, your techniques and better supplies. Thank you!
Aw, Julia, wow, thanks so much! Very lovely things of you to say. I appreciate you! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
I am returning to watercolor after more than 25 years of acrylic. I began my painting journey with water colors. Your videos have me absolutely hooked. Thank you, Jenna!
Carol
I have been watching many watercolor tutorials and you are my favorite teacher and you are the only one who has been honest about brush recommendations. The rest have been recommending crap based on sponsorship or their brands. Your style of art suits my taste perfectly and my story is very similar to yours and I also found watercolor to be my quiet winde down for the day therapy. I love it more than any hobby I've ever done. The only thing I think about while painting, is painting. My Windsor and Newton arrives today there was a wonderful labor day sale where the pro set was similar to the conman so I was able to get the pro set.
Thanks for the downloads, Jenna! And for everything else you do!
❤️❤️❤️
Hi Jenna, I watched your presentation a couple of times and painted it this morning. I added a couple of items to make it more of my own.
Wonderful!
I love the wet on wet painting you did. This is where I really have to practice! Thanks for your videos Jenna!
Watched dozens of beginner newbie watercolor tutorial videos and not one had mentioned two cups for blues greens etc and another for the pinks reds etc so u don’t get brown water. Ppl said use the two cups for one of fresh water always but this makes so much more sense to keep ur contrasting color rinsing separate. So thank you I’ve already learned so many things.
I'm so glad it's helpful for you, Kim! Thanks for sharing!!
I’m new to watercolor and have watched countless hrs of many watercolor painters and have to say yours is by far the best on explaining how Too’s
Thanks so much for that compliment Laura! I will be sure to keep these videos coming!
Thank you for the explanation of adding leaves with the stems. That was the most helpful thing I’ve found. I’ve been struggling with that. Just that simple tip of curving from the stem instead of just adding it was perfect.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for sharing Ang!
always so inspiring! Sometimes I simply watch you paint to unwind.
Thanks so much for this video. As a beginner, it's so easy to get discouraged because I think I don't have the talent, etc. but you inspire me to keep trying.
I love the anemone! Just gorgeous!
Thanks Sarah!
You have the most beautiful brush strokes.
Thanks Susan! ❤️
Hi, when one is complete virgin to colours, art, brushes and painting, trust me nothing is ever straight forward. 🙌🏽
I hear ya, there's a lot to learn!
You are a wonderful teacher. So glad I found u.
Loved this video. No one to this point has described the flower as well. I may be able to do this now. Thank you
You totally can do it, Sami! Happy painting!
I had a blast painting a crazy anemone today. I’m so excited about getting back to painting - used to do acrylic, now I’m obsessed with watching watercolor videos and finally put paint on paper!! Thank you, Jenna!!
I just found you last week. I have watched hundreds of watercolor tutorials and learned lots from them but you stand out from the crowd and are an excellent instructor of watercolor. Your tips have made such a huge difference. If you’re interested in knowing what I’m interested in, it would be fruit and veggies. Simple animals are also interesting. Your style is very much a style that I like and am able to achieve. Thank you for sharing and please don’t stop.
I am so glad you’re loving the tutorials! I actually have fruit and veggies on my to-do list for upcoming videos!!
I love your detailed descriptions of techniques like hand position, angle of the brush, and amount of paint on the brush. I also like how you help with composition and having it balanced. I have found that I need to watch your tutorial first and then paint, otherwise my paints dry out while you talk. But I am using cheap liquid watercolor paints.
Amazing work! Thank you for explaining in detail. So incredibly talented Jenna!
“You’ll know what I’m talking bout” 💞
I love how easy and neat you make it look
I appreciate that compliment! It did take A LOT of practice to "make it look easy." :) Keep picking up that brush and I'm confident you'll only get better and better! I believe in you!
Jenna Rainey thank you 🙏
Ps. You are definitely the Kindest artist and funniest (your little sayings are life) 👩🎨
Dawwwww.... :)
I loved painting the anemone - thanks for your great modeling of technique and clear explanations! You are awesome!!
Give me all your florals! All your leaf tutorials, too! 🎶
Yes! I hear ya, Amanda! More on the way!! xoxo
I love your tutorials. I'm just starting with water colours. I think I'm still working it too much. But I'll keep practicing.
Jenna, You are my favorite You Tube Teacher! Ive done many of your tutes and want to thank you. Last night I tried the blue Anemone and it did not go well. I did not get the blooms I wanted. I know alot of it is practice and I will continue to do that. I did 2 leaf tutes also and am not happy with the results . If i knew how to send you a pic I would. Oh amd the loose landscapes are speaking to me . The one with the palm trees turned out well. Id like to see more of those! Therese
Thank you for your tutorials - As a beginner it is easy to get overwhelmed by all the information out there, but you are so easy to watch and listen to and have a way of making sense of it all!! Thank you again!
I'm so glad it's helpful, Julia!! You're very welcome!
You're going to be my first water color teacher. Thought I would try watercolor and give oils a break. I can't draw a stickmen with a ruler, but this flow and is fun but not as easy as you make it look. Plan to work through all your lessons.
Enjoy my tutorials, Barbara! If you are just starting, don't miss my Complete Beginner's Guide to Watercolor. That's a great place to start and will get you going! ruclips.net/video/tDdfPMTX15Y/видео.html
Thanks you for all your videos. You’ve more than inspired me to try watercolor. My first medium was acrylic, but once I watched one of your videos I was hooked. Your explanations make sense and videos are very easy to follow. Absolutely loved this anemone!
I enjoyed following along and painting this anemone, thank you!
You're welcome, Fiona!
You are amazing. You make magic with that brush. I’m a beginner, but I love it, even when I struggle to learn.
I’m just getting started with watercolor, and I’ve found video tutorials like this so, so fun and helpful. Looking forward to more of these!
Thanks Julie! Keep picking that brush up and I know you'll only get better. I hope you enjoy all the content and that it helps you get better and better! I believe in you!
This video has helped me gain confidence with my florals, as I am still learning about watercolor. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Oh, that warms my heart to hear that, thanks for sharing Alexis! xoxo
Loved this piece in your insta story but love how much more in depth you went in explaining... especially the leaves. I have lots of difficulty with leaves.
Thanks Vanessa! I'm glad you liked the in-depth explanations! Keep up the painting! You'll get those leaves, I believe in you. :) Take care!
I love your painting and how thorough you are. Like telling us about how you are holding your hand/arm. I have recently started watercolor as my retirement hobby. I'm having a blast.
Watercolor retirement hobby = the best! I am so glad you're having fun with it! I'll have more tutorials for you on the way! xoxo
I love watching this video. I painted along last year. Today it put me in a nice relaxed mood plus I always learn something new. You explain very complex watercolor concepts in very simple terms. Thank you! 😊
I just love the way you explained how much water to put on the brush, which is a problem I haven't figured out yet. I love the flower you painted! I'll keep watching your channel and hopefully I will get better at using my water color paints!
All the best, Sherry! Enjoy your practice and I’m sure you’ll get better in no time!
Thanks so much. You are a great teacher as well as talented artist.
Thanks Carol!! ❤️
Your use of green gold was very wise in your lime choice in this challenge, good job. The painting looks very juicy.
Thanks Helen! xo
I’m so happy I stumbled onto your channel. After watching many tutorials I was really able to understand a few tips on loose flower painting that I have been struggling with.
Thank you i’m a new fan😊
That's great! I am so glad this was helpful! More tutorials coming SOON! Take care and happy painting!
I loved using your Everyday Watercolor book to begin my creative journey and now I’m so excited to get to see your techniques come to life!
Thanks so much Jacqueline! Happy painting!
Thank you. I have watched you twice now and I find you very helpful, but so full of common sense and understanding of how plants grow. I now understand the brush you use and how to approach your painting using water colours. I had no knowledge of these points before. I am about to sit down and tackle my first flower using your guidance. So a big thank you.
Aw I am so glad this is helpful and I hope you have the best time, Carole!
Love how you're always sharing with us your knowledge, tips & tricks! ❤️
I'll keep 'em coming then! :) Glad you like it!
I was terrified of loose painting without a sketch but something clicked when I started to paint your anemone and realised how easy it was to adjust shapes when painting with clean water. So the petals came out in all the right places - I should have done that with some of the leaves too but I'm really pleased with the flower & enjoyed the magic of touching a brush loaded with pigment to the wet areas :)
So glad that you are pleased with the outcome, that makes my heart warm!
Love to watch you paint....so effortless.
Thanks Pam!
Okay, I really do have a third comment, this is not for the giveaway! 😳
In your next videos, can you get a shot of the full painting so we can pause and look at your work? I know you hold it up in this vid. But maybe like a flat lay/close up deal. Idk thanks guys
Thanks for the feedback, ya, we'll def try to get an unclose shot of final project. :)
I’ve always loved this flower, I just didn’t know what it was, thank you so much, I will be painting lots of anemone
I am so happy you are on RUclips. Yay!!!!
YAY! Thanks Sam!
I really enjoyed watching you. You are my first watercolor flower tutorial. I am such a beginner. Mine I. No way shape or form look like yours but I tried hard. I wished I was able to show you so you could tell me what to fix and how to fix. I am going to look for other tutorials of yours to watch. 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
So glad you enjoy my videos, Teresa! ❤️
Jenna, I enjoyed this video so much! You are so full of information and you take time to explained it clearly so we can understand. Thanks a lot. I would be honored to hang the blue anenemi in my house. Thanks again. Jan
I am SO happy you enjoyed the video, Jan, thanks for sharing the love! xo
Just came across this old video love it and I'm sure that beautiful painting is long gone. 😍
You really are a fabulous person to follow. You give such great tips and advice and your work is beautiful. Thanks!
Jenna, another helpful lesson! Thank you.
Glad it was helpful for you! Take care!
I'm excited to see your videos. I'm a few days into Everyday Watercolor lessons and it helps to see you in action. I've been really looking forward to your next book. Irises, pansies and cosmos are my favorite flowers, but really I like them all.
Thanks so much for the support Kerrie! Enjoy Everyday Watercolor "round 1," and I think you'll really enjoy what's coming in the second book. Happy painting!
Jenna, you are one of a kind! Thanks for jumping on the RUclips train to make things easier for us to learn!
Oh I can't wait to bring more and more content to you guys! Thanks for the support, Chelsey!
Nice explanation of the process, and the techniques that work for this result. Thanks for sharing your techniques.
Circling back to some of your earlier videos! Really appreciate your encouragement to just paint, make mistakes and practice!
Yes, of course! I’m a big fan of making mistakes, learning from them, and enjoying the process. That’s what it’s all about.
I love your 1st book and am looking forward to the 2nd one. It's great "watching" you paint too.
Thank you so much Mary! I am so glad you enjoyed Everyday Watercolor! I love how the second book turned out, so I hope you enjoy that one just as much. :)
Mary Bell it’s such a great book for beginning right! It’s been such a game changer .. as most books are a little confusing. But everyday watercolour is so well edited
Thank you Jenna - I've enjoyed watching and learning from your tuition. It's given me the confidence to have a go.
Thanks for sharing this video. I love your watercolor florals! Can’t wait for your next book to come out!
Yayyy, I am so excited for the second to come out too! I think you'll love it!
Was looking for motifs for my water color pattern design - these Anemonies will be perfect. They will make a lovely fabric for a blouse or dress. Thanks for the inspiration. In Rhinebeck NY there is an Anemone nursery and I always loved their look. Its been almost 25 years since I saw them there but the memory is etched in my brain. Thanks.
Jenna and John, this is amazing! Thank you so much! I can’t wait to paint this tomorrow after I get home from work. I know you’re tired after just having a baby. You’re so inspirational! Thank you for being so strong and brave and doing something new in the midst of a major life change. I want to be like you. 👏🏻👏🏻
jreynoldsbotanicalart dawww that’s mega sweet!! (This is John, btw, haha). Thanks so much!! I hope you like it!
jreynoldsbotanicalart 💗💗
Thanks so much! Wow, we really appreciate the love and encouragement! So sweet! :) The baby does cause some exhaustion, for sure, but we love him so much and just continue adjusting to being new parents... Take care and happy painting!
Beautiful painting! I love the way you made it yours by putting your own spin on it!
I have never seen an anemone flower (maybe we don't have them here in my country?) and I was actually surprised when you did a leaf and they reminded me of a type of palm. thank you for this video! how I've been following you on IG but not on youtube is a mystery
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Ya, I LOVE the Anenome, it's a fun one to paint. Take care and happy painting!
I found it to be very interesting. You just explained. Thank you for sharing it.
Amazing!! so helpful in understanding better about wet on wet and consistency and ratio of paint and water. Wall of water was an Aha! moment for me!
Beautiful blue color, what wonderful start 😍🥰
I LOVE that blue, too.
I love how you explain everything in detail. You make it easy to understand. I can’t wait to try this tutorial. Thank you for sharing you talent!!
Thanks Ginger!! xoxo
This may be my daily image to paint!
Oh love that, Patti!
Best watercolor artist!
Oh, stop it, Jessie. Haha. *blushes* Thank you! xo
Thank you Jenna - You are amazing!!! I think I need to keep practising leaves!!!
Love all of your tutorials! Your hair and makeup look amazing! Thank you!
Best beginners session I have ever attended... thank you so much ❤️
Jenna, I love your tutorials. I have your Everyday Watercolor book, but it's seeing you demonstrate in real time that I learn from best. Thank you!
This is a very ambitious project for me. I’ve painted it 4 times since a month ago and still not happy about it, although it gets a little better each time. It seems easy enough the way you do it. I’ll switch on to my other homework ( your Everyday Colors book) and I’ll try again in a couple of weeks. Another goal for me.
I just found you on RUclips you did amazing. If you are watching this video then believe me it looks like a rose and it is a very good flower
Oh thank you! Take care Ali!
Been following you in insta for over a year and was so excited for the RUclips tutorials!! Way easier than re watching insta vids over and over to paint what you paint 😆. Thank you!! ❤️
Yay!! Thanks for following along Tarolyn, and I'm so glad these are helpful for you! I'll be posting tons more tutorials, we're just gettin' started! 😀Take care! xoxo
This video is really helpful and I have drawn not exactly but almost like yours and I am very happy...u do explain the things very well....u r a good tutor ☺️
I'm so glad it was helpful for you, Suman! ❤️
I love your art ! The loose style is so soothing !
Thanks sm! xo
Can’t wait to keep watching and learn more!
Thanks for following along, Crystal! If there are specific things you want to learn, make sure to comment and let me know! I'll do my best to cover what people are asking about. :)
