- Every music lover has that one good song or album that's ruined by a shitty time or person. For Matt Skiba and Dan Andriano of the legendary punk three-piece, Alkaline Trio, "the Star Spangled Banner" was recently tarnished by a classic rock stalwart.
Skiba also discussed which breakthrough punk rock crossover classic was overplayed to the point of meaninglessness and Andriano revealed which earnest "Goddamnit" track is impossible to listen to in this APTV exclusive.

+Alternative Press continental, til death do us part, Sadie, i wanna be a warhol, and pocket knife. No particular order. Some where in each of those songs, a particular line touched my soul or fit some part of what ever I was going through at the time.
Totally agree I wouldnt have opened a record store if it wasn't for the trio i owe my life to them! I met my wife through their music...we were both SUPER fans both looking for our little needles 😉

Dan if you're reading this... For me, the vocal in "Enjoy Your Day" was at first different. And I absolutely love every part of it.
When I was about 20 years old I had just bought good morning obviously morning with you I'm doing speech to text so I look like a dick head but I just bought that album I had it for about 2 months and then I rushed back to the same store where I purchased it initially and asked how many other alkaline CDs did they have cuz I wanted to buy everything from them. And I'll never forget what the clerk said to me. He goes oh man you started out with one of their best albums so you may not like their old stuff. And I was like I doubt it cuz at that point in my mind alkaline could do no wrong so I bought everything I believe it was the self-titled album with the cassette tape on the cover God damn it and from here to infirmary and maybe I'll catch fire. That dude couldn't have been more wrong than anything about his life ever.

100% agree with the “Smells Like Teen Spirit” comment. As a 90’s kid myself. You couldn’t escape that song for the longest time. Feel like for about 10 plus years, I purposely avoided that song & now I’m to the point where I can listen to it again.
I love that early version of "Enjoy Your Day", it's raw and full of emotions i felt often.
I could listen to it on repeat.
I like how Dan is talking shit in drum machines all while a backing track with a drum machine is playing.

Been a fan of Alkaline Trio since I played American Chopper on the original Xbox, and listened to the song ‘Stupid Kid’ over and over. Now, being 18 years old, I’m still listening to their newest album and loving them, but I feel they’re majorly underrated. Also, I admittedly clicked this video to see if someone actually thought Trio ruined music, because I would’ve left a comment even longer than this one.
It was 'Armageddon' for me off Tony Hawk's Underground. Then I listened to that album in full and loved it
Their music gave direction to my life and gave me an outlet for my emotions that I couldn't express to anyone
Interesting that Dan mentions I Just Called To Say I Love You what with Matt having a Sekrets song that riffs on the title of that track too.

I love these guys! Wish Derrick were a part of the interview. Anyway, I agree with everything except The Spin Doctors. I'd like to hear more about exactly how they ruined anything.

I have to agree with Matt. I never liked the Spin Doctors. They happened to come out at a certain time when anything that wasn't metal was being embraced whether it was any good or not. Hootie is another band like that. Contrived a/f.
I’m glad to know that my favorite band despises the same music that I do lol. Although..... the original Smells Like Teen Spirit may be overplayed and exhausted, Noah Gundersen’s acoustic cover of it is one of my all time favorite songs.
I have always loved this band, they are amazing, some of their songs really got me through tough times. think I have been listening to them for 17 I was around 11, still know most of the lyrics for all the songs on From Here To Infirmary. I don't think there is a single song on that CD I do not love.
Every song on FHTI is so damn awesome! Each one is different than the last
FHTI was my first when i was 13 in 2003. I havnt listened to it for over a decade until yesterday and I still knew every word, every beat, every note and subtle change.

I always wondered why Google or RUclips never autocompletes or suggests Alkaline Trio when you search for them on the web. What's up with that? Surely they're well known all over the world, so why it doesn't appear the suggestion when you are typing it?

its so funny that Dan said ZZ Top, I saw Alkaline Trio play a halloween show in Houston in 2012 or 2013 and they opened the show dressed up as ZZTop playing Tush. It was awesome
My dad's favorite band is ZZ Top. He's legit a rock star. He took me to see Dan In The Emergency Room a few weeks after I had a double mastectomy. We met Dan after, Dad took pics of me hugging him telling him how much he and Alk3 meant to me especially in recovery. 😂 Ohh nooo

I knew there was a reason I gave 'Enjoy your day' 2 stars (out of 5).. after listening to it again I bumped it to a 3 stars because the lyrics are pretty good, but, I agree, Dan's voice isn't the best on it.. but I guess that gives the song more character, which is a big staple of ak3.

I have to agree with dan on the enjoy your day. His voice isn't great on the early recordings. As much as I love dan and alkaline trio I don't like listening to that recording. I'm so glad there is a live version on spotify cause the song is great and dan has a really good voice now

I can never listen to Nevermind again either. If I hear it starting I tune it out. In the 90s I loved Nirvana but now I can't stand them for more reasons then I can explain here.

Love the trio but fuck I'd trade their last two albums for a song like Crawl or Trucks and Trains or Blue in the Face. Loved Krystalline, wish there was an album's worth of tracks like that instead of throwing one in as an afterthought.

Wow. Dan Andriano looks incredible. Handsome as hell. I'm worried about Skiba. He was always the handsome one but he looks terrible. Like he's been neglecting himself for a long fucking time. He looks sad and bloated. Even his voice sounds awful. Matt, take some time out, man.

tyler McElwee, it is good to here that you are clean man. I am a recovering addict too, clean since January 15th 2016. It's still a struggle most days. Even this evening I was craving it like mental, but I prefer being able to think clearly, I do less dumb shit then. And so that is the main reason I don't use anymore. I wish you all the best of luck in staying clean and I hope that you are enjoying your life without it

We are huge alkaline trio fan. I love their music. But the last show they did in philly was horrible. So bad that I wont go back to see them until I forget how bad they preformed.
Tara Gundaker Dan sounded fine great on every show of the tour. He’s been a nearly flawless singer for quite some time. Matt’s voice is a little rough lately live. Not as bad as it is in blink, but his voice seems to have taken a major downfall once he hit 40.
