Elmo was just another Anything Monster Muppet that no one knew what to do with. But Kevin Clash did, and he became the most popular new Muppet character since they added Snuffleupagus to the regular cast.

Uhhh "Clash resigned from his job as the voice of Elmo in 2012 after the allegations of improper sexual relations with minors became public." Sounds like it was a real monster after all.
I mean what grown man wants to be adored by children? The whole thing is weird. Men want to be adored by women.
