2010s internet was chaotic, creative, not as controversial as it is now, and small authors could become popular just by doing what they want (like, remember when people made funny mlp videos that gained hella amount of views?). 2020s internet is almost entirely made up of drama, scandals not to mention how it's become corporate-centric in the last few years.
I think RUclips content was at its peak from 2010-2015 thanks to creators like PewDiePie, Smosh, Vanossgaming, Nigahiga, Filthy Frank etc. There's also the fact that the early 2010s had some incredible games to make RUclips content from like Call of Duty Black Ops 1 & 2, GTA V, Battlefield 3 & 4, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Fallout New Vegas, Batman Arkham City, Counter Strike Global Offensive, Dota 2 etc. The fact that some of those games are still being played today by streamers and vtubers shows just how good gaming was near the end of the 7th generation of consoles.
It’s hard for sure 2010s internet is nostalgic for me but it had its rough spots. Especially when you look at late 2010s and how drama filled it was. I believe TikTok truly had its moment back in 19-21. But all things change over time. Still I miss the absurdity of the 2010s internet.
I won’t deny there were some interesting things that happened during the 2010s and the advancements we had in technology were pretty impressive, too, although I feel like that, it was pretty much like the beginning of the end, in terms of like good quality entertainment and things like movies, comic books, music, and the list can go on and so far it’s only gotten worse since the 2020s started
Yeah prank chanels and 3am calling xxx at 3 am challanges totally weren't brainrot. There is good and bad just like there was before and just like there will be in the future.
Why does everyone hate the current days and miss the past. Like in the 2010s, people missed the 2000s, and now we miss the 2010s. Why can't we just enjoy the present and stop clinging on the past. And i can almost guarantee that in the 2030s, we'll miss the 2020s
I agree but I feel it's more like why do when they miss it and they'll go comparing current problems rather then knowing that back then they had similar situations culturally and economically aswell like the fact that even 2000s is nostalgia despite it being portrayed as a boring or bad decade(9/11,Iraq, recession and etc) wouldn't surprise me in the slightest that 2010s and 2020s will be missed too its pretty subjective for different people but it's also inevitable cause wait till we see people (growing up in that time) calling skibidi or sigma a great time to be born in although crazy I wouldn't really be surprised
That comparison at 16:33 genuinely bums me out. The internet used to be such a chaotic, interesting place you could go to to escape reality, now it just feels like a bunch of brainrot drivel shortening your attention span and giving you anxiety
Im growing up in the 90s but i love the 2000s too and the early and middle 2010s are interesting too. Internet was more free, less mess with ads and cancel on yt but i was not a big prank fan. Lol i never used vine and never playen mindcraft.
@@TitanBolt99started getting dicey in the later half of 2014, honestly the first few things that come to mind are whip/nae-nae, vine, and the change in hip-hop music
I can't tell you how much i miss youtube from 2010 to 2015. They were truly the best years. RUclips is a total mess now days. Only because RUclips itself is destroying what used to be a fair platform.
On the herobrine era, a lot of public survival servers had an undisclosed herobrine plug-in, I remember the exact moment I ran into herobrine for the first time on a random survival server

I can't believe this all happened 10 years ago.. the COVID years really did a number on my brain.
I wish you talked about leafyishere in the later half of the 2010s. He really was the leader of that edgy time of RUclips. How he just bullied everyone for no apparent reason. I feel like that was a really important part of that time period because I feel like it directly influenced the demonetization spree RUclips went on because channels weren’t advertiser friendly.

Mint, you probably didn’t experience this yourself cuz you’re young, but the iPhone was just getting all the social apps at this time. College with FB, OG snapchat, tinder, and insta was wayyy more wild then anything from RUclips. Also, you need to remake this video and edit in the harlem shake. That event marked the 2010’s internet takeover of society and solidified millennial dominance of the culture
so basically i think the 2000s made more sense than the 2010s i don't really get why vine and twitter and Instagram was was so popular they are very limiting compared to things that already existed in the 2000s .a lot of other decisions made no sense like compare the ui of RUclips in 2009 vs 2019 also mobile games were alright but why is browser gaming not a thing anymore or why are most mmo games ultra easy right now despite players asking for harder games it just seems like change for the sake of change .i remember there being a lot of drama over minor things in the 2010s like 2 youtubers i watched had a huge drama because one complained about a blue ray disc. this seems to happen less now you still have drama but mostly over more major things the internet got way more important in the 2000s you could pretend like it didn't exist and only interact with offline media .but a lot of youtubers didn't realise how much impact they had yet resulting in some really funny but regrettable moments. but overall the late 2010s still feel very recent so i will wait a few more years before i give my final judgement.

"not as controversial" you're right. it was more so back then. People just started calling it out around 10-12. things are better nowadays.
the only reason it wasn't "controversial" to you is because we were all kids. looking back, everyone was terrible.

Mid 2020s internet is definitely a renaissance period for content, especially thanks to tiktok.
The worst period online was 2018 - 2022
For me it was like 2020 - 2023. Found lots of great content back in the late 2010s, despite the changes of the time
