Great video! Thanks for the tip recommending replacing secondary tensioners and the little guides, I was tempted to skip that.

This still looks potentially rough but nowhere near as bad as the absolutely moronic design of the previous Explorer engine, where they had a jackshaft go through the motor and run the other side's timing chain on the other side, against the firewall. It meant you either had to drop the transmission or pull the engine to service, and they used cheap plastic for the guides so they always broke. Crazy stuff. Thank you for the video.

Thanks for the tips on keeping oil out where the head meets the block. I did this job before and ended up with a leak there. I have to do this job on another car and i was wandering what to do different this time. Thanks!

Yeah if you don't have the luxury of using a 2-post lift that would work just fine. I can raise/lower the car to any height with it supported like in the video.

Could use a floor jack under the oil pan (Use a board). Don’t have to remove the ac line. I personally found it was absolutely not in the way.

My cam phaser rear tensioner doesn’t seem to be working unless its supposed to act like a guide? The front on i press on and its springy because its holding the tension but rear one isnt pushing up against the chain at all

How do you verify the engine is in time and at top dead center at compression stroke besides relying on the marks on the phasers and crank before removing the chain?

I only know the way shown in the video. If the camshaft holding tools slip into place and the timing marks on crank/cam gears are pointed like in video, it will be in perfect time.

Did this today and if the cam moves it only moves a hair because the locker may move but like he said use a wrench to hold it and it will stay in place but this video is very informative and spot on

Do you rotate the engine 2 times after?

Not necessary at all but I usually roll it clockwise some to get the tensioners extended.

Is there a way for an individual to get a hold of the Ford procedure on this job?

You could use a 1-month subscription of AlldataDiY but that's $20.
