Using my LTD Snakebyte with emg 81/60 with Roland JC-120 with Tc electronic hall of fame reverb for cleans, and Blackstar ID:60 head with matching cab for distortion. Some riffs are wrong i know...
@@janjohn8416 It was in response to Enders comments. Battery, for example, was recorded on a Jackson King V loaded with Seymour Duncan Invader pickups.
Turd Farts says who tho man I mean cmon. Y’all guitar playing purists kill me. Nothing else matters is entirely picked too but James gets his ass up there these days and strums it like he’s playing a campfire chord progression he’s playing it wrong too or is it OK because he’s James Hetfield?
you should try this for a clean tone: JC-120: low input, volume i like 4 but its up to you, treble 6/7. middle and bass at 3,5/4, reverb at 5 Guitar: volume 75% and tone about 50% more treble on the amp and you lower the tone on the guitar.. try that out.. really nice metallica clean tone.. if you see the video of hetfield's gear run, you can see the settings on the clean tone triaxis, cauz he uses the JC as a PA... he has treble 6 and mid&bass at 2.. but when you use the input in front, it has less bass than the main in on the backside so i figured to make the settings i told above.. lowering the tone is just because the emgs are really bright, and the lowring of the volume and the tone makes a smoother and warmer and STILL bright tone.. hope this will help
yeah its nice, i didnt tell you to use mine no matter what, i just told you what i do.. you might like that more... you never know.. i have tried lots of settings, and i change them... haha.. anyway.. i just mentioned you should try that, not to keep it...
Christian Whitmore as much as the HetSet is great, because 1 he designed them, and 2 he actually uses them, but in my case I would try to replicate what they used back then to get the desired tone. I would go with the emg 81
Christian Whitmore if you’re trying to get the old school sound (Kill ‘Em All/Ride The Lightning) go for some Seymour Duncan invaders but if your going for Master Of Puppets/...And Justice For All/Black Album then EMG 81/60 would be good. Het Set for the rest.
i have a blackstar id core stereo 20 but i dont have a dirty sound that it dirty enough to play master of puppets what can i do if i got a distortion pedal will it help?
you should try a clean tone playing the JC120 along with the blackstar clean, that could be nice, 6l6 tubes, american clean close to boogie clean maybe
Is $800 a good deal for that guitar? SnowWhite Snakebyte? And also is it flexible in terms of genre. I’m planning on going funk, jazz, funky disco and stuff. Thanks!
Its the built in chorus in the JC-120, its hard to replicate because its a stock setting on the amp, there no knobs to tweak the chorus on the amp itself, so its a preset kinda when you set the chorus on on the amp
Hi. I don't see the light on the Roland JC-120 open. For to have the right sound, you do use this amp and not, a modeling tone from the Blackstar head ??? It's real your clean are like the live sound. And James don't use a external reverb, he choice the JC-120 for the '' unique '' space Reverb. He produce a little delay between each speaker and give a Reverb like the sound come all direction of the room. For the James Clean's, the setting on the JC-120 are channel 2, High IN jack, Bright open, bass to 4.5, mid to 4, treeble to 7, disto to 0, the Reverb setting are 40% to speed and 60% to Depht. I saw him in 2004 with my VIP ticket in Montreal, the setting of the James Rack. On tour, he used a JC-160H Head under the case rack. But in studio, he had used the clean of the Mesa Mark 2C+ (him Main Amp) & JC-120. It's for that, we don't hear no Reverb on Justice intro, One, Harvester Of Sorrow. For the saturation tone, it's a Mark 2C+ équiped of two 6L6 and two EL34 tubes on the Poweramp. For obtain the more closer possible Metallica tone, you need a Amp with EL34. 6L6 only are not enough and sufficient. The EL34 have a Warm tone vs the 6L6. The Bass are focused, the Mids crunching and the high crystal-like with more puntch, more attack and better for the Metal. Also, the EL34 are must better for a tubes rectifier. The match is perfect vs the 6L6gc who are preferable to use a diodes rectifier. The Mark 2C+ same old are '' RARE '' to find and he is expensive cost but I've few head adordable for to have a Metallica tone & sound and James like Kirk, they used in studio, 2 of 3 head simultany but for you, one will be enough. The Marshall JCM2000 TSL 100 are well. 3 channel independant, Clean (real ch), Crunch (like a jcm800) and Lead (high gain disto), four 12ax7 & four EL34, many modes (mid boost, bright, tone shifter, deep ''resonance''), 2 FX Loop (one for Clean ch, one for Crunch/Lead ch). Find to under 1000$ or 800SUS. I have already this Amp and he make a sound very close of Metallica. I have put a kit of Electro-Harmonix EL34 (they have a little/med scooped tone, best for Metal) and one Tung-Sol 12ax7-B on V1 for have more gain (10-15% produced this special tubes) and Sovtek 7025 for the last 3. This lit of tubes give a tone like American but British also. This head was to be the high-end of Marshall between 1999-2009 before to remplacing by the JVM serie. New : 2599$CAN + tax or 2200$US + tax if applicable in US. I am in Montreal. The Mesa Rectoverb v2 50 Single Rectifier a well also. 2ch, 5 modes, five 12ax7 and two 6L6gc but changeable for the EL34, Spring Reverb, Mesa sound !. Or a Mesa Mark 3 or 4 are more abordable than the 2C+ and more easy to find. I suggest the Mark 4 because is a half part of the tone of the Black Album. 6L6 & EL34 power tubes, five 12ax7, very high gain, preamp most versatile. One thing than you do to know, he has 3 stage of tones every all years. In 95, he introduced Mesa Triple Rectifier and the Triaxis preamp (few Mark models 1, 2C+, 4 & extreme). He mix the 2 for have the tone of Load, Reload, Garage inc. and Live sound. Of 95 to 2000, he using live 2 Dual rectifier, 4 Triaxis and the JC-160H for the clean tone. He don't put effects on dirty tone. For Nothing Else Matters or Until It Sleep, he use with the Reverb, a little delay fx. And for the present tone, most modern, he use a Mesa Triaxis preamp, 2:90 stereo Poweramp & Diezel VH4 head, return to JC-120 combo and G-Major 2 for effect. For the present tour, the Worldwired tour, they (James, Kirk, Rob) use a Fractal Axe FX2 XL+ preamp with a solid state Matrix Poweramp suppose for have the original gear and sound of the song that's play. You have the good guitar, the good clean Amp, just change your Blackstar Head for a full tubes high gain amp. I suggest a Mesa Dual Rectifier '' re-born model '' or post 2011 like a mine. It's the better choice for have the old and the modern Metallica tone. Re-born are the last generation of Dual rectifier with the Clean of the Mesa Lone Star Amp (the Fender of Mesa). I've already had a '65 Fender Twin Reverb. It's one of 3 better Clean Amp of the world. Its tone are magic, of great quality. six 12ax7 and four 6L6, all Groove Tubes special design Fender, for a Clean Amp, it's strong. The six 12ax7 give the better Clean tone possible and the Twin spring Reverb assist by tube are fabulous. With a Fender twin reverb, i can make a tone very closed of the JC-120. 3 channel with 3 modes each. For Clean, he has a clean & pushed modes, for the high gain channel, 2 & 3, he has a Raw, Vintage & Modern modes. Choice of type of Rectifier on each channel. I have modified my head with a spécific tubes. I change for EL34. The Mesa EL34 STR-447 and i put 3 Tung-Sol special tube 12ax7-B on V1 to V3 or on each socket of stage gain and tone. That give me 30% more gain, low noise, low microphonic a better tone more wide frequency. In V4 (FX Loop) and V5 (Driver/Phase Inverter), i've let the standard Mesa 12ax7. The setup of tubes a put in my head change very all the tone of my amp vs a original in store or inbox to exit of the compagy. I have the 3 channel on tubes rectifier. That give more better sound but also, a Clean with a more puntch of the chord, same thing on high gain channel, more puntch and attack of the power chord and single note. With this amp, i have my tone than i need for recording my album and make all Metallica tone, old to now. I have a TC Nova system, brother of the G-system 2000$ piece. The Nova system have the effect from the G-system. Not modelisation, not simulation. Simple Pure effects and more quality than the G-Major2 but the sound of effects are like same. Metallica use a TC G-Major for our effcts, guitars and bass. With my Mesa Dual Rectifier, clean channel with low gain and a Spring Reverb from my Nova, I make the same sound like the Fender Twin Reverb of JC. Just change your Blackstar for a Mesa dual, you go to have all Metallica sound.
Jean-Pierre Bernatchez Hey man! I dont have these amps anymore, now i use the Axe Fx 2, the same as Metallica is now using. Its killer and has all the amps i need in one unit

1. Get a guitar as same as James Hetfield's
I don't think any of the riffs that were played were recorded on an ESP Snakebyte.

you should try this for a clean tone:
JC-120: low input, volume i like 4 but its up to you, treble 6/7. middle and bass at 3,5/4, reverb at 5
Guitar: volume 75% and tone about 50%
more treble on the amp and you lower the tone on the guitar.. try that out.. really nice metallica clean tone.. if you see the video of hetfield's gear run, you can see the settings on the clean tone triaxis, cauz he uses the JC as a PA... he has treble 6 and mid&bass at 2.. but when you use the input in front, it has less bass than the main in on the backside so i figured to make the settings i told above.. lowering the tone is just because the emgs are really bright, and the lowring of the volume and the tone makes a smoother and warmer and STILL bright tone.. hope this will help
