One day when we were Jam fans, me and my mates took a train from Aldershot to Woking and walked around town asking where Paul Weller lived. We were directed to Stanley Road and actually knocked on the door. His Mum, Ann, opened the door and welcomed us in. I can't believe we imposed on this woman like that. She was very nice to us. Gave us a bunch of black and white pictures of the band and showed us on our way.
what yr was that?
@@duckbrew Can’t remember but Sound Affects was out and we were all nutters for Paul, Bruce and Rick. Paul’s Mum told us “He’s living up in London now”.
was on the tour may 2024 , Thank you Tufty i will never forget it. loved listening to your stories about The best F---kn band in the world.
Thanks for your comment - glad you liked it - please sub if you can (it’s free) 🙏
Woking A ? Didn't see enough of it but You can pick it up on other videos & photos. I remember it with great fondness because many of my people were there for a long time, although I was a Reading boy. My time was the 1940s/ 50s onwards, Dads people over at Kingfield, Loop Road & my Mums over at Board School Road, had great fun walking, Cycling, around.
Remember the walk across Boundary Common, across Chertsey Road with the sound of sawing from Spantons Wood Yard on the canal, through the woods to Wheatsheaf Common ,across Chobham Road to the Wheatsheaf pub. So much.
Lovely countryside, shoot round to the Westfield shops from my Grans, down Old Woking shops. Wonderful.
Won't bore you with a lot but remember the 'Cards' hoisting the Amateur Cup i 1958, got all the programmes from that run although I was not at the games, all the reports from the News & Mail. Charlie Mortimore/ Geoff Hamm etc.
Having finished National Service in 1962 I met my future wife through my relative Jenny. Not generally interested in females romantically as I had seen & heard too many things. But Marilyn ??, holy cow, she knocked me speechless. Well, pretty near. We were together nigh 60 years, it was never long enough.
I am boring you now so I shall stop. But Woking will always be in my heart.

It’s taken a year of steady work and now know what my audience like - all filming was done on a phone so now am going to invest in a proper camera 🎥

Got recommended this as I'd been trying to find info on the old Woking Ford (later Dagenham Motors) garage on Maybury Road where my XR2i was sold from in 1991, good old algorithms. Genuinely interesting video, great work.

Who remembers Turners of Woking
I get that Steve (Tufty) was a mate of Paul's first and foremost, but it really disappoints me that everyone keeps on about Weller like he was the only member of the Jam. I note that while in Sheerwater, nothing mentioned about Bruce's house in Albert Drive, nor Paul's (Rick's) house in the Kingsway.
Like it or not, the Jam was a Woking Band of 3 members and without every one of their inputs or efforts, the Jam wouldn't have ever been anything more than a cover band (which they started out as) ... Please ... if anyone wants to know about the Jam and Woking, lets recognise the band as a whole and not Paul like some kind of lone messiah. After all ... I couldn't really picture Paul doing the drum track on "Funeral Pyre", nor did he write "News of The World" that was the theme tune for "Mock The Week" for many years. The other 2 boys DID make an input and affect the sound.
He lives and has a studio in a pretty little village just outside Woking !
Indeed - great comment - please sub if you can - really helps (it’s free) 😀
How about the Tour include the Wheatsheaf where Dave Waller died and a few other places related to the lyrics...
When The Jam came to Leeds i was the one with two other girls who wrote PAUL WELLER IS INNOCENT on the Leeds Town Hall steps . Paul mentioned it in his book .
Great story - please subscribe to the channel really helps ❤️💪🙏🕺

Coventry has a two tone village , museum, shop restaurant themes to their ska heros, the specials and others All financially helped by the coventry city council. To promote Coventry heritage.. Why does Woking not have something similar for The jam tufty, your tour looks so amateurish.Need merchandise, literature, watering holes restsurants on the tour. The jam fans are achievers, they have money. Paul weller has influenced his fans, in so many ways.Hard working creativity and respect
A world in decline as it seems.
Yes but at least I captured these great memories - please subscribe - really helps the channel 🙏🍿🎶
