- YO! Visit isurrenderrecords.com to grab some sick limited edition Raccoon Tour merch. Ever heard of that band? They're pretty good. My mom likes them.
You can also support my fun little music project by visiting raccoontour.net. You'll be hearing about an album from us very shortly. We're just a few baby steps away from being done and ready to announce.
Also visit my friend Ezra on Instagram @FearOfSubsisting. They're pretty cool.
Sometimes I have kids tell me that their teachers play my videos in their classrooms and stuff. It's my job to make sure that never happens again.
Scaled and Icy was a super divisive and controversial album. I weigh in with my own thoughts with my best friend Ezra. Together we make fools of ourselves and ramble about nothing or like 25 minutes.
The original footage was 90 minutes. Trust me, you're not missing much.
Also just a lil PSA, if ur gonna be dumb like us and get intoxicated and stuff, always make sure you're in a safe and secured place with people you trust. Never ever get into a vehicle under the influence. No exceptions. While getting inebriated like this certainly isn't the most responsible thing to do, I'll always make sure to set an example by doing so safely.
By the way, that TOP burrito was super good. Ate the whole thing, which I'm never able to do with Chipotle burritos. Those things are thicc.
I'm just now realizing that this is my first video in like... 5? 6 months? Yeah what a grand comeback video huh. I'd love to make more fun videos like this, just gotta beat out those sweet sweet depression vibes.
Fun fact: RUclips tends to like it when you litter your description with tags and relevant terms. For example, for this video, I could write Twenty One Pilots, Trench, Blurryface, Stressed Out, Tyler Joseph, Josh Dunn, Ukulele, Clique, Fueled By Ramen, Shy Away, Choker, Saturday, DEMA, Lyrics, Review, Music, Quarantine, Review, and so on and so forth.
Also, man, it has been a while. I hope you're doing okay. Family doing alright? Friends and health and stuff going fine? I hope so. You're a good noodle, you deserve nice things like that. I've been doing meh-so-so. Got a full time job that sucked my energy and motivation to do anything except work and sleep. Cut down my hours so I can work on RUclips videos and music more often.
Oh yeah, Sophomore Year video will be coming out this summer hopefully. It's turning into a monster of a video.
By the way, I make quite a few jokes in here at Twenty One Pilots' expense. Please know they all come from a place of love and adoration. This is such a special and phenomenal band, even when I think they slip up a little bit. Never mean to hurt anyone's feelings if anyone associated with the group personally happens upon this. Just having a goof and a gaff poking fun at the members.
Man I also poke fun at Brad Taste in Music too. I love him very much. His videos are wonderful, his reactions are always insightful, whether I agree with him or not. It's always a blast goofing with him because he knows it also comes from a place of admiration and love. No actual bad vibes to him. They're just jokes in the video. Tee hee ha ha. Hi Brad. Congrats on 100k. Enjoy that silver play button. They're nice, dude. Easy way to win the respect of any 13 year old you meet.
Yeah I always try to make it a goal to fill my descriptions as much as possible so RUclips can send this video out to as many people as possible. That's called SEO, search engine optimization. Google it! It's cool.
Here's time codes for every section of the video by the way!

How are you BTW?
my fav animator channel
ur so down to earth
the alvum grows on me the more i listen to it, but when i compare it to trench it just sounds like child music
I don’t know why but I love this album. Especially No Chances and Redecorate
This album is a classic example of when most of the songs are cool individually, but because it’s an album and you listen to it from start to finish it feels underwhelming.
ok so idk if u saw this on twitter but the current theory that is album doesn’t take place AFTER trench, it happens BEFORE trench. it’s the prequel to trench. no chances is like him tryna leave and gtfo but keons and the rest of the bishops are like No Fucking Way You’re Staying. redecorate is right before clancy is like fuck this and actually leaves. THEN we have trench. next album could be the sequel to trench.
listen to SAI in reverse too makes it 10x better which is also another theory but i don’t know shit about that one
Unpopular opinion: Scaled And Icy is a good album and it's interesting to see the direction artists like TØP are taking with their new music
Yeah, I thought it was really cool
Imo the direction's not interesting at all. Really a terrible path they've paved for themselves. All the songs sound the same, the whole album doesn't do good for the last two tracks, even though No Chance is only just as good as, say Neon Gravestones, which in on of itself isn't a very highly regarded song anyway.
i think its shit but you do you.
@@pseudoplotinus totally agree with this
This will make me feel better after fantano stomped on it
I agree with his opinion
@@alex11v3 what are you doing here then lol
@@maks_____ Just seeing some other opinions, other perspectives on the album.
@@alex11v3 that’s very mature of you :)
This is a twenty one pilots album. Each one has a message and this one like, trench, is a message twenty one pilots thinks the world needs to hear.
Their self titled album is about religion, politics, the world as a whole. It sets up their initial view points of society and what they have to say.
Vessel is about depression and anxiety. How giving in leads to different outcomes, one being suicide. It talks about how you need to fight it, get help, and trust your loved ones.
Blurryface is about your dark side. Your evil thoughts. It's telling the listener, "hey, those thoughts aren't you. You are your actions." It says that having bad thoughts doesn't make you bad.
Trench is about idolizing celebrities. It focuses mainly on the negatives. How you shouldn't want to be that celebrity and do exactly what they do. There were a lot of celebrity suicides in 2018, and "Neon Gravestones," perfectly says that the media romantizes suicide and how we shouldn't see it as an option. How, its not good, that this celebrity's death was a tragedy.
Scaled and Icy has no message like this. It's message is to stay and calm and take things as they come. Take one day at a time. We just got out of one of the worst years and Twenty One Pilots said "You're gonna be okay. Take one day at a time and have fun."
Just my thoughts, thanks for reading
You guys are drunk as fuck the Outside is an incredible track! One of my favorites in the album.
And I still don’t get these folks hating on Saturday. lol love that track too! Blech.
I don’t get what’s wrong with this album at all, they all sound good to me
I didn’t like SAI at first but it’s really grown on me and tbh it really is the album I needed right now even if I didn’t realize it before so I’m happy with it. Still hope the next album will be as good as Trench was.
I think I’m just a sucker for TOP cuz I like every album they release. The only song I don’t really enjoy all that much on SAI is bounce man
Some Saturday lyrics analysis I did for you:
This songs continues the idea that Joseph feels his music is outdated. Sonically, this track is as poppy as it gets. Quite a few of the lyrics are interesting though. Obviously, he's previously stated he feels like a megalodon. Now, he's 'floating circles' in a 'fish bowl'. This suggests two things. 1- that he feels as though he's repeating the same tricks and is lost in a cycle. 2- the fish bowl implies his once magnificent- ocean-sweeping scale- has been shrunk until he fits in a little fishbowl. In another verse, he asserts 'life moves slow on the ocean floor. I can't feel the waves anymore' and questions 'Did the tide forget to move?'. This gives a sense of how he feels isolated from the world. It once more links back to ideas first brought up in Choker- that he is alone and can't ask for help. Meanwhile, between the lines I just mentioned, the vocals shout out 'feeling great!'. Again, this suggests his is ignoring his issues. He remains trapped in DEMA and the bishops are ensuring he doesn't face his problems.
HEYYY!!!! WE NEED A JUNIOR SURVIVAL GUIDE NATEEEEEE
At least the concerts for this tour will be extra
hey bro, gimme that senior year survival guide ): imma need it
He's gotta do the junior one first
Hold up. So the burrito DOESN'T come with the band?
Biggest disappointment of the year
I've always wanted to eat josh dun
never found a review i agree with this much
good day slaps. choker is pretty neat. never take it, formidable and bounce man are fun. no chances and redecorate are awesome.
only song i disagree about is shy away. shy away was pretty good, and definitely a bop and a fun listen, but it didn't have enough substance to it for it to deserve that much praise imo. it got me hyped for the album, but it also got me hoping the rest of the album would have a bit more to it. which it didn't.
completely agree on the shy away part! It's a fun song and a great single, but if I think about the fact that the first single that got released for Trench was Jumpsuit (a musical masterpiece), Shy Away starts to sound a little disappointing, the song is all the same and doesn't change much (which can be said for all of Scaled And Icy tbh).
I would've loved to see something more RaB/Vessel like (I mean, Holding on to You is a masterpiece because of how dynamic it is a song)
I really liked this album It grew on me, I was expecting trench but I realized that its not gonna be trench, because its literally not trench
You see, their next album will be different! This time it's red duct tape!
It’s always a Good Day when Nate uploads.
haha big funny
:(
now twenty one pilots fans know how panic! fans felt when pray for the wicked came out
i feel like twenty one pilots died somewhere during the pandemic and now got replaced by 2 universal music interns with no taste or knowledge of music whatsoever
I’m a sucker for top, I just like anything they release at this point
I didnt like Saturday at first too, but after a few relistens its a VIBE
Nater tater is back ripping apart a burrito AND a twenty one pilots album the same video. Impressive.
You looked like you were having a mid life crisis eating that burrito
I'm always having a midlife crisis welcome to my channel
I feel like Paul Meany should've come back as producer. This album proves that a lot of Trench's high points were done, at least in part, by Meany. Hope he comes back for the next project.
I wish I liked this album and yet here I sit with a broken heart knowing it’ll never happen
i just learned not to expect a twenty one pilots album when they release a new album because every album is so different
After having mixed feelings with BF and Trench reveals, I can confirm. SAI is my third album drop experience and its the first time I've actually loved a top album for what it is vs what I wanted/expected it to be. I'm ecstatic to say the least :)
Learned my lesson tho. Never get too comfortable with the style, the storylines are what that matter and they shouldn't have one particular style to matter
scaled and icy is, for one reason or another, my favorite album by twenty one pilots. i just love the sound behind it, but it definitely definitely is not for everyone. and i’m ok with that
Dude I want the junior year vid
I live in Columbus Ohio and I went to the place where they did there live concert and I went to the stadium and actually met Tyler and josh with a few other people
That's fucking sick!
My opinion: it’s a pretty good album with a lot of solid songs, as well as some weaker ones. I don’t like it quite as much as Trench, but appreciate the new musical direction they took.
Hey I know you probably get this a lot but when I was a freshman I saw your freshman survival guide video and it really helped me out. Luckily sophomore year you released your sophomore year video and it was just the best. Junior is coming up and I would really love for you to continue the series and make the junior year video. I know you take a lot of time to make those videos and as a community we really appreciate it. Thanks Nate for everything hope to see that video!
my extremely relevant opinion:
Good Day --> same with your opinion, one of my top tracks for sure, piano is my favorite instrument and this has a lot of it that already makes it for me
Choker --> i agree that the chorus was pretty dry, i'd also like to mention that the "mmhm"s make the song so nice
Shy Away --> same with yours
The Outside --> i'm gonna have to stick with the people and say i enjoyed this a lot
Saturday --> i agree that the lyrics are pretty weak, the chorus was really weird and unusual for me as well, but honestly i like this song, it gets my mood up and always a pleasure to listen to
Never Take It --> this song grew on me a lot, like a lot. i liked it at first as well but now it's probably one of my top tracks, i love the vibes and it's like a not today 2 for me and not today is probably my favorite from BF
Mulberry Street --> this used to be my favorite track originally, now it's my 2nd best, i really love the vibes, the lyrics, the melody and it gives me the run and go and forest vibes
Formidable --> this track kinda fell out for me, it was originally one of my favorites as well but now it's probably one of my lowest, i loved the guitar but i think the weak part of this song is how repetitive it is, and also the term "breaking someone's heart" has always been really cliche and cringe (yes i just used that word) to me. this part is just a me thing i guess so overall i'd just say a little bit too repetitive but has that put this on while driving in the nighttime vibes to it which i think is cool
Bounce Man --> first 5 seconds i heard this song i already freaked out a little bit because i heard jay's voice and i was expecting a jay reference because of his song called "jumpman", i loved this so much, so enjoyable yet the more i listened the more i realized the lyrics were really sad
No Chances --> not a single bad thing about this, blew my mind, also the little "runaway runaway" makes it 10x better for me idk why
Redecorate --> this quickly became my favorite track passing mulberry street, looking back honestly i don't know how i even thought mulberry street stood a chance against this track, loved the chorus so much and of course the lyrics are phenomenal. i think redecorate and the entire trench album are proof that paul meany + tøp is unstoppable
if anyone actually read all of this i'm sorry for wasting your time i just wanted to express my opinion because i'm passionate about my opinions on music lol
U got some good opinions lol
Bruh I agree with all of that
Couldn’t said it better man
I have never been so excited seeing a video notification pop up onto my phone. I can't wait to see what you think of all of the songs. I've listened to the album a few times and my favorite so far is Shy Away, tho that may be a little biased because it was the first song to come out plus I've listened to it the most lol.
“People either hate it or love it”
“I liked it”
“I liked it too!”
I like the artwork better than the album
And the artwork is shit
I liked the album lmao
I actually like the album.
The album is lit
@@AinyAlam yes it is
Well so much for the junior year vid ;-;
Man, why did you post your comeback right when I need to do my math homework
The Outside was one of their best ever songs.
Glad to see you're back! I was unable to try the burrito as I am a vegetarian, but it sounds good.
Personally I thought that the album was really interesting. It definitely had a different sound then the other albums, but there were definitely good- especially Redecorate. I can see why people don't like it as much because it wasn't the same as the other albums but I still enjoyed it.
I love this album. I definitely think their older stuff is musically better but this album was super good.
Oh my god nothing better than being surprised by nate on a random Tuesday
Someone commented that each song is great when listened to individually, but become a bit underwhelming when listened to as a full album, and I definitely agree.
That's where Trench succeeds, as each track felt part of a greater whole, unlike Scaled and Icy, which felt like a stitched together collection of radio-friendly singles.
When I first gave it a listen, I enjoyed it but tuned out about halfway through. Good Day is probably my favorite, and one of their best openers. Formidable is also a great one, The Outside is nice, and Never Take It is a fantastic rocker.
It's nowhere near their best album (Trench is hard to beat), and I think the idea that "they were forced to make poppier music" is just an excuse for fans to not think for themselves. If it was just any ordinary record, no lore or anything, I guarantee the people that say that would actually say what they want to say.
im just two minutes in but im literally in love with ezras hair holy shit
tysm 💞
I watched all your videos whenever you first launched the channel when I was a lonely emo teen in 2017 and now here we are in 2021 a married emo twenty yr old enjoying every second. thanks, Nate
I liked this album better than blurryface honestly lol
I just really didn't care for blurryface, yeah.
In terms of sound I agree but lyrically blurryface definitely wins lmfao
I cant believe the amount of hate to this album. Most of the songs arent exactly happy, and its catchy as hell. We’re still getting a darkass album next, tyler just wanted something uplifting in the middle of this pandemic.
Chipotle is midwest emo, Qdoba is 5th wave emo.
ayo nate post junior year survival guide
Nate: uploads
Me: happy face
Yo guys stop asking about the junior year survival guide, he'll get it out eventually
Lol I remember when I first listened to this album I hated it. And that "we've come for you" part from No Chances legit made me laugh cuz of how stupid I thought it was. But it has grown on me, asides from a few songs. Mulberry Street and Bounce Man are probably my favourite. That bridge in Mulberry Street is soooo good.
I do feel like that whole DEMA propaganda thing, while is a good idea, limits the album. Tyler and Josh put themselfs in a really difficult position where the songs need to come across as inauthentic and a bit too happy, to tie into the lore. But the songs also need to genuinely sound good and have thier own themes.
But yeah I found the album overall enjoyable and found it interesting some of the stuff you had to say. Can't wait for the drunk review for the next album.
(Also wooooooow I hate The Outside that stereo phasing effect that leads into the verses is so annoying)
i havent listened to the full album yet my partner is on a trip to ny and he loves them so im waiting for them to get back so we can both listen lol
Imagine being so excited for an Album to come out and you get Scaled and Icy. The album isn’t as bad as I first thought when I first heard it but it really is a major step down from Trench and even Blurryface. I feel like it tried to be very ambitious with its goals and ended up falling apart on its face. I really do like some songs from the album (somehow I really like Shy Away as a Single) but the entire album as a whole was a major disappointment. Just my opinion though, and I understand why some people may find a lot of enjoyment from it.
This is a great video thanks for uploading. Look forward to the next survival guide. Keep it up nate!
Bro I’m late but I remember your video helped me through high school years ago. I’m a senior now and just wanted to say thanks dawg ur pretty cool.
Ah. Nate, I'm very sorry, Fantano has already reviewed this. Any and all things you say are now invalid.
This album sounds like a target commercial. IDC how the lore says it is propaganda, only the last 2 tracks where decent.
Junior year survival guide, please🥺
I BEEN WAITING FOR THIS VIDEO
i think my problem with this album is much less the change in tone, seeing as i really like régional at best, but that if feels like they didn’t... try? i don’t know, it just feels kind of like they gave up and just said “here. music ig.”
RIP Ezra, died doing what they love. Hating Trench
and i’m okay with it
I have waited for this video to come out!!
Congratulations on hitting 300K Subs on RUclips. Nateislame.
it’s a good album i think but when you look at all their other albums its like eh
i prefer trench- politely disagreeing with you :)
@@JJ-of2lz i much much prefer trench. that album is a masterpiece that is going to be hard to top
Dude Anthony Fantano murdered this album and then fed it to the dogs...
Yep, cause anthony fantano dictates what I like and listen to!!!
The first time I listened to the album, I was honestly kind of bored and kind of forgot I was even listening to it, I sorta just tuned it out 😂 but the more I listen, the more I love it!! I usually listen to more rock/punk and this is still such a vibe
yes ezra content 😫
What confuses me is that my boyfriend loves this album but didn’t like Trench almost at all
Give him Bonito Generation by Kero Kero Bonito i'm sure he'd like it
Mmmmmm telling by your profile pic u probably have no boyfriend and probably young

Yeah I need his advice for next year lol
If u speed up Saturday to 1.25x it’s actually really decent as a party song, idk if you’ll like to see by yourself but just so u know :)
I'm obsessed with this album and I can't even tell you why? I was hooked on the second listen and I like/love all the songs. It 100% feels like a TØP record but lighter, colourful and fun in a different way I fw it so hard! My top songs in no particular order: Choker, The Outside, Mulberry Street, Shy Away, No Chances & Redecorate
The description was my favorite part of the video
Love the friendship y’all have!
I missed you nate gimme a smooch
NATE!! you should give the band waterparks a listen! they are amazing. they’re pop punk i guess? but maybe mainly pop idk they don’t have a specific genre. u should listen to stupid for you or crave
We need high school Junior guide!
I don't think I'll ever truly get used to SAI just because I'm so nostalgic for the earlier TØP albums. That doesn't mean it's not good or that people can't find value in it, and of course I don't want them to constantly recreate the same music. I'm just not into the sound in SAI specifically.
i think the album is a solid 6/10, not mind blowing but not like terrible. i agree with the observation that the whole thing people like about top is that they change up their songs a lot and you never really know what’s gonna happen, but a lot of the stuff on this album just kinda happen and stay at that level the entire time.
Yo, the Heccra cover at the end, niceee
The food review intro feels like squidward’s walking sound effect
I agree with every single second of this video
Loved this video thank you
I like SaI. It’s like a 7.5 or an 8 for me. Idk, I vibe with the music and the lore’s neat. Also No Chances slaps and Redecorate is incredible.
Scaled and Icy is the Hot Space by Queen
Not even close, but I can see where you're coming from. However, Hot Space is just soooooo much better. (Though, this is coming from someone who prefers the A side to the B side...)
I understand the comparison, as Hot Space was a very big departure for the band. The difference is that TOP didn't change their sound too much, while Queen went head-first into their funkier side. Both paid off, even if HS is a more cohesive work.
I saw you comment on the shy away music video lol
Twenty One Spirits
I didnt even know saturday was a twenty one pilots song it's been playing on my areas pop station for like a month and I didnt even like notice it
what actually happened to your video from a few years ago when you went through twenty one pilots discography and your thoughts on each album?
How did Tyler do the livestream show if he’s a bobblehead
