Wow! I'll be honest, these places would have scared the hell out of me! I'm a bit gobsmacked. I must lack both imagination and ambition, I would have run a mile, and probably never have stopped. I couldn't see what might be, I just saw tiny rooms, terrible woodwork damage everywhere: most of the houses were not far short of ruins. However, I see I am very much out of step with everyone else - that's not unusual, though - and all other comments I've read are very positive, and see things the way you see them. I'm struggling. I admire your ambition, imagination and determination.
You guy's are absolutely amazing! I'm myself in Portugal and looking "slowly" for a property to combine modern life with subsistent one, syntropic farming etc. You guys and your videos stand out between the similar channels on RUclips, by far! Bless you and all your undertakings.
The quality of the videos you guys are making is insane! Keep up the good work and you will reach many more subs really fast! Love you guys, greets from Germany! :)
Your videos are super interesting regarding your property tours. I personally liked the Fundao property. However, out of all the Portugal channels I follow, the property you bought is by far my favorite. Great location. Good amount of existing trees, hardscape, etc. Plenty of water and the house is impressive. You did well for yourselves.
We saw the same place with Edgar he's lovely isn't he! This is the one we offered on but the buyers kept increasing the price after we agreed a price! buyers BEWARE!
Other people have commented on the previous video, but @13:09 you can see an example of what are the holes/nooks on the walls for. In that case is a beam to support the structure probably used to store fodder for the livestock but you could also see lower holes sometimes to create dividers or a manger
I look at what you found, to view, and the prices. I am so very glad we went for a more up to date property. We purchased at a time when you got a lot more euros to the pound. We are of an older generation that lived with outside toilets, and poor housing. I am glad to say Portugal has plenty of good housing stock, but like most countries it’s not for nothing.
Great to view your search process and evolution. We had to do all of that searching remotely from the US as we could not enter Portugal during almost all of 2020. Lots of videos and photos through our proxies. What a journey for you guys.
Well spotted, moved with friends over from another European country. Houses are quite small and the rooms too. I have to live in a 5 x 5 m2 room which is for me ridiculous. They have usually two kitchens, one is a classic one but small, fridge/freezer is in the garage, no oven. Then there is a 'dirt' kitchen where they were cooking/roasting on open fire. Damp issues, mold, there was no proper Internet, electricity not fit for modern appliances, no central heating although winter quite cold, floodings in winter, fires in the summer. No public transport, you need a car or bike to the next bus stop, neighbours very close. Online shopping difficult, deliveries random. Language difficult but people rather friendly. Altogether I'm not happy, sorry Portugal.
and. u are both amazing highly intellectual people and the genuine vibes between you are very inspiring. rare thing to see a witty, curious, into action and happy people together)
Thank you for sharing all this information. I plan to retire in 2023 to Portugal and all your property input helps me understand more about location. 👍🥰
We really enjoy your videos. And we've also viewed too many of this kind of properties before we decided on ours (~50) ... 😅 Would've been nice to know the size of land for each one, not only no. of rooms 😉
Never too much land.;) Haven't you heard? It's no longer being made. Bigger land requires bigger toys, bigger debt, and more creative management. Now you've experienced what bigger toys can do for you with the mowing machine you bought. Get out, see what your neighbors are doing to manage their workload. I'm not your average armchair "advisor", I own and operate 830 acres of farmland in Texas, USA! The last few yrs I've been primarily raising hard red winter wheat under center pivot irrigation. Best wishes in your endeavors. I look forward to the time when the well situation becomes a priority. Enjoying riding along on the property search immensely!
I remember those videos from your old channel. I saw them last year. Looking at them again , I think you made the best choice. Here is my reasoning. The one you put an offer with the large land , is not for you. Its for people that are going to live off the land . People that are going to grow and sell what they grow , you are not. You grow stuff for your selvs. The best selling point of your property are the trees. I would of gotten your place ,even if the house was a ruin. The reason for it, is that the trees take dacades to grow. You dont plant them for yourselvs ,its for your children and grandchildren. However you wont have any as your wife stated ,its just going to be you 2. This means you need them now , not when you are 60-70 years old. Your house has them : oranges , lemon , clemontaine , mandarin ,apple. Those are the selling point of your house ,everything else can be grown fast or build. Those trees are not. This is why I think you ware very lucky to find that place.
Very nice. One factor that I don't think can be downplayed is, unfortunately, fire risk. All houses surrounded by pine and eucalyptus plantations or even small groves of those trees are extremely high-risk due to the frequent brush fires and forest fires that keep happening in Portugal.
Oh yes I remember the white little guesthouse with the breadowen and the shower ... think that was the first vlog of yours I saw. Was it in the same vlog that you also saw a huge plot of land with very many trees? I remember being so surpriced that you ended up choosing what is now your home... because it was so very different from the properites that you had shown us 🙂
Fascinating looking at all these properties which help define what you really want. I think your property is definitely the right choice. Another enjoyable video. Thanks a lot.
just finished watching part 1. loved it. please.... definitely link the other parts in either the comment (pinned) or descriptions of each video (unless I missed it :-)
loads of food for thought, amazing insights and very helpful to frame my mindset on my goals. thank u guys, amazing job! you can do a side freelancing for a property for sale))) I love your guidance
Have you seen it's a couple from the west Midlands that have got the property at 9:00? They've got their own RUclips channel. They've started with the outbuilding that's set away from the main 2 buildings
Wonder if " starlink " would work in those remote places? I remember these homes from your other channel. Do you happen to know if those homes are still available? Blast from the past.lol
Would it be okay to list the agents in these videos? I'm finishing up renovating my house in mid-wales by next year, and intent on moving to Portugal to start to slow down with work (DBA) now I'm nearing 50. Having a list of agents that already have experience of dealing with us emigrating to their country would be really quite helpful.
Hi have you got a list of all the properties im looking to buy a house somewhere in the village if so pls can i see it or maybe we will meet you we are going there in july
Any house with a damaged roof is an immediate NO, you go during summer for viewing when everything has dried up, go in the rainy season, to see everything the water has damaged 🎉🎉🎉
Many Portuguese people speaks English. France Spain Germany and Italy doesn’t speak a word of English. You can find a good house with good land if you put more money, still cheaper than UK.
We found a few that we quite liked, listed in this blog post with some of our thoughts: makedogrow.com/buying-property-in-portugal-how-we-found-our-dream-farm-and-how-much-it-cost/
Welcome to Portugal, we don’t have money to buy property in our own country so we have to immigrate to yours to someday comeback to our little peace of heaven 😔
Probably could have knocked the price down a hefty amount considering the amount of damage. I always read that expats pay too much for property in Portugal, forcing up real estate prices there.
Okay I always thought we were contrary in USA by driving on the right side of the road and "assumed" all of Europe was left side. Somebody straighten me out? lol
89k for the first house is just silly, they wanted to rip you off for sure, a lot of repair needed, for that amount you could get a way better place, with 140k you can get a two bedroom house in Porto... So for smaller city in the middle of nowhere it should be way lower
The Portuguese Estate Agents seem to take British people to over priced properties because of such a vast difference in space it seems that this makes you guys more accepting of crazy prices. There are still liveable character 2 + ha properties under €70k!!!
I remember you guys seeing that property and after that you guys mention you were glad you didn't get cos was actually too much area to take care .. sorry spoiler alert
wow the condition of these properties are appalling. ive read that foreign buyers with more disposable income are artificially pushing up property values in Portugal. My question is how long are these on the market for, are Portugese buying them and if so at what price? For 2023it is predicted that property pricess will crash because they are not representative of their true value. Its time for foreigners to realise that just because you have more disposable income to buy doesnt mean you should overpay. Most if not all of these examples are literally demolish properties and land only. why do foreigners even entertain these to buy? That estate agent must be absolutely laughing in his office. whn I come to buy in Portugal I will most definitely want to know the sale history of properties in the area, what properties the locals buy compared to what is offered to me. No way will I over pay for this kind of rubbish.
Just FYI, in the early part of this video you said something that identifies one of you by name which you might want to remove. Reply with some contact method if you want me to be more specific.
I would not say these places are cheap because they are all wrecks and basically all need knocking down and starting again, also the way they say illegal extension, the government should be happy people are willing to buy these wrecks and do them up, they should let people do what they want within reason
Viewing that second house was a complete waste of time given the ludicrous asking price, you should have used price as a filter to get a closer match to what you were looking for.

It was like going to my grandparents house again. The furniture and the floors really took me back. Thank you! 🙂
you bought the right building for sure

Im a real estate agente from Lisbon , glad to help 😊
Im glad you chose the property you ended up in.
Love this succinct comparison of sites. A real masterclass!
Bat house at Fundao had great views and great pond!
Love the doors and shutters in the last one you showed.
Gosh you sure had some fun with this. Both of you look so much fitter now. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing your house-buying process.
Maybe it is just me, but a recurring theme is very narrow bedrooms!!
The prices are amazing, the housing not so much!!!
Hugs from 🇨🇦
Yes, just space for a (small) bed and not much else. Seems to be the traditional style

Thoroughly enjoyed this video!
I just love the "lovely"..I crack up everytime❤😂
Starlink really makes "remote" more do-able!
Love the videos! I do wish you would have stated the prices, in order to get an idea of values. Good luck with all!

great series! love these videos 👍 maybe add chapters/bookmarks to the video so viewers can skip to each property.
Which agent did you buy from your current property? That info would be interesting too, any of them in this video? Great work on the videos!
The cottage style one was interesting but need land
Wonder if " starlink " would work in those remote places? I remember these homes from your other channel. Do you happen to know if those homes are still available? Blast from the past.lol
They all look derelict to me. All the work would put me off. I think you are very brave.
Great vid, thanks. Did you guys consider any other countries in Europe besides Portugal?
What are the price ranges in these properties? So far land value is about all I see. And dry! 🔥
What were the prices and land sizes
Hammer House of horrors - the wasps nest house! Need more than a hammer methinks!

That was quite a task and a difficult decision to make.
Lack of Internet isn't an issue anymore. Starlink got you covered these days.
I was wondering: was the absence/presence of neighbours, and what kind of neighbours, a big factor in your decision making process?
I think she is perfect and you're very lucky.
The properties are in worse condition than many we viewed in France. We just had to "up" our budget !
What were the prices of each?
Hi have you got a list of all the properties im looking to buy a house somewhere in the village if so pls can i see it or maybe we will meet you we are going there in july

Why do the Portuguese shun windows?!
Every house is small and dark. Just a lightbulb hanging on a wire for illumination.
