Starland Vocal Band was signed to John Denver's WINDSONG label. Bill and Taffy Danoff (FAT CITY) co-wrote Take Me Home, Country Roads with John Denver (and sang backup on that tune). Jon Carroll and Margot Chapman (who were married at the time) were the other half of the group. Jon Carroll was just out of his teens when they recorded this tune and he also did the vocal arrangement, as well.

Ha ha ha, you guys are so sweet, I am still cracking up. Yes, you are right Amber that is what the song means. It's funny you think that back in the 70's, people would have been shocked by this song, but they were not. I think it's harmonies are so incredibly beautiful and sweet, it makes the song have a pure and dreamy sound. A lot of parents have their own "little afternoon delights" walking around today because of this song. :) Love you guys have a great day.

This was one of those great summer songs of the late 70's. My favorite of this genre was "Moonlight Feels Right" by Starbuck featuring an epic marimba solo by Bo Wagner. A few other light ones were "I Like Dreaming" by Kenny Nolan and "Do You Wanna make Love" by Peter McCann.

This song was born from a restaurant menu* that had a small section called 'Afternoon Delight' and Bill Danoff took that with him and worked the song for a long time until he came out with this version. But yes, by the lyrics, isn't anything about what's on the menu. Loved your video! *This fact can be found on RUclips.

One of the two married couples in this band came from John Denver's backing band. Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivert share songwriting credits with John Denver on take Me Home Country Roads. They also co-wrote the John Denver hit I Guess He'd Rather Be in Colorado. Starland vocal Band had a TV variety show for a hot minute. It was one of David Letterman's earliest gigs in television.
